The MMJ industry is fantastic. As a former scientist working in RD/QA I lost my job due to the economy. Luckily, this industry was booming and I took a chance and ended up scoring a job in it. Three years later I am still employed in the industry and making a comfortable living wage. 7000 Employees now have jobs. If the MMED would issue more badges to people who are waiting for them, more people would have jobs. People may argue that cannabis use for "medicinal" purposes is a joke, but aren't the very propaganda, laws, and government policy that made it illegal a joke as well?
If you are seeking an opportunity to get into this industry be warned, you cannot unless you already have two years residency in Colorado. BUT, there is an exciting way for you to make some money by lending to the industry. As they said in the report there are no banks who will lend to dispensaries, no matter how much profit they generate. That's where you come in... if you can lend $5,000 to $250,000 for a short time and you want to earn an interest rate from 10% to 30% then please contact me today at: mmjviceroy at g mail.com
Then you can tell all your friends you are "in" the medical marijuana industry and more importantly you can help sick patients get access to the same high potency cannabis they purchase now for less money than they pay today.
Unfortunately a biased segment on "medical marijuana" without any medical perspective. It may have its place somewhere in medicine, perhaps in malignant conditions, but until it meets the rigors of the FDA it should not be touted as medicine. It is harmful to our youth, it has addictive qualities (the #1 admission diagnosis in Colorado adolescent substance abuse treatment centers), impairs learning short and long term (JAMA 2012, Sep 26; 308 (12): 1196), contributes to impaired driving and increased school disciplinary actions, and has no supported medical benefit from a long list of medical societies. There is science in there, however, like any other substance, it needs to be studied from a scientific perspective before marketing to the masses. The majority of users in Colorado have "medicinalized" their recreational use, causing a huge disservice to those that may actually benefit.
There have been many scientific studies of cannabis, which are detailed in the book "Marijuana: Gateway to Health" by Clint Werner. You can Google "cannabis science" and learn a lot about its various medical attributes. Researchers at San Francisco's California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute have found a cannabinoid (CBD, a chemical in Cannabis) that is effective in the treatment of breast cancer. Studies have found that cannabis is effective in treating MS, cancer, epilepsy, arthritis, Alzheimer's and other ailments too numerous to list. Over 300 doctors have endorsed Amendment 64, an initiative to legalize marijuana, in Colorado.
This is a medicinal plant that has been used safely for thousands of years before the FDA even existed. The reason that youth are referred to substance treatment centers is because it's usually a judge ordering them to go. If you get busted with pot, you can go to treatment or jail - what would you choose?
Cannabis is safer than alcohol. No one has ever died from using cannabis. It is remarkably safe, non-toxic, and has enabled many people to quit using dangerous, addictive pharmaceutical drugs. Prohibition of cannabis makes criminals out of ordinary citizens, costs taxpayers billions, and it doesn't work.
@responsible_free: I agree that there are several "scientific studies" circulating out there, and there is science on how cannabinoids work, however, there is a significant lack of good, solid scientific research which demonstrate its efficacy in all of the conditions you mentioned. The data is confusing and inconsistent. In order to sell a bill of goods in the medical arena, you really should do the rigorous research to prove or disprove something's benefit. For instance, the peer-reviewed, physician endorsed, medical journal Neurologist, published a study in 2009 out of Mayo Clinic stating that cannabinoids do NOT reduce MS-related spasticity (Neurologist 2009 Nov;15(6):369-71). The Colorado Department of Transportation has published data that support the number of fatal marijuana-related motor vehicle crashes are on the rise, so marijuana can kill. We haven't done a good job with alcohol either (Betty Ford Center, MADD, liver disease and disability, etc) so why would we want another potentially harmful substance on our streets. I would support more scientific research, as noted in all of the medical journals I have read on the subject.
The FDA also recommends that people should eat 60% carbohydrates in each meal, and then wonder why people are obese. The reason that all those kids are in those correctional facilities is because everyone smokes weed so more people get caught. You either go for "treatment" or jail. So yes, they are lots of adolescents wasting tax money in treatment centers for a NON- PHYSICALLY ADDICTING drug, and its barely mentally addicting. Also if you read updated medical research on cannabis and its role in medicine, you would know that more they learn about our endocannabinoid system the more they realize that marijuana might be the key to restoring balance in a body system that is flooded with abundance (toxins in the body). Not to mention the fact that thousands of people from several different cultures have been using the PLANT as medicine for thousands of years. The fact that your FDA approves of tobacco and alcohol, which are blatantly harmful substances, should lead you to suspect why they wont legalize something as harmless as marijuana? The only answer I can come up with is that they would rather the population sick and stupid, than well and enlightened.
"#1 admission diagnosis" this is forced or coerced treatment. a kid gets busted for weed and the judge offers him a jail cage or a nice clean treatment facility but with the threat of a prison cage if he doesn't conform to the indoctrination and monitoring.
all the other studies listed have been debunked or have multiple peer reviewed studies that show the opposite. some of the best driving studies were done by the big insurance company's and also foreign governments (eu, aus). amazingly several of the studies say that marijuana makes you a better driver (more cautious) than even the sober tested people.
in Colorado upwards of 70% of the mmj patients are technically bogus (pot docs). meaning that they could probably not stand up to the scrutiny of a judge or grand jury investigation. it's because the law is very narrow in Colorado unlike in cali where the original law 215 is open ended and so pretty much everyone there with a doctors note is technically legal.
marijuana should be totally legal because it is never ok to use force, violence or coercion against people acting peacefully on private property.
Codoc442, Really I agree with you, we need to keep the weed away from the kids. Just like alcohol, tobacco and weapons. As to the majority of users "Medicinalized" recreational use? Anybody who gets off a hard shift at work and stressing out, should definitely be able to help themselves to a medical joint if they want, just like you can drink a shot of whiskey if you want to.
All I'm saying is that, yes mostly medicinal marijuana is not really medicinal, but as I cannot yet go into the tobacco store and pick up a pack of joints, well, then it is a medicinal use. Really we need total legalization and taxation. Look at all the benefits, and the only people that benefit from having it Illegal are the criminals that are on such a big scale they are considered mexican cartels... You make it cheap enough that it isn't worth getting busted trying to smuggle 50 thousand kilos of weed in, and they will start to worry about working with columbia to smuggle cocaine and heroin, those are drugs we need to focus on. Something really addictive and really really lucrative.
I truly believe that the Federal Government is responsible for 90% of all the drugs sold in the United States. They are just going to have to cut their loses on that part of the drug trade. They are still going to rake in billions of cocaine and heroin sales. Sucks for you!
The reason cannabis is even illegal in the U.S. is due to the Hearst and the yellow press demonizing it in order to outlaw hemp fiber production because of their timber paper investments. The problem with medicinal cannabis is people's view that plants are continuous crossed in order to have high THC content. THC is really not medicine however CBD is another cannabinoid found in cannabis that really should be looked at as a real medicine. Dispensaries should be focused on providing high CBD to THC ratio products because CBD does not have the psychoactive effects like THC but has many benefits. If you are curious read about CBD.
you would think by this point in life that we would have already be able to have truth conversations with our children when it comes to cannabis. for many of us, our parents bought into the goverment propaganda. i understand the concern for those who have never consumed it in any form. i also understand the financial burden of paying out of the public pocket to the tune of several billions of dollars to keep people incarcirated for what amounts to petty posession charges. can we as adults parent our children or should we continue to fill up the prisons? I personally hope that the citizens of Colorado legalize cannabis. Lets move this forward so we can use our tax money in other area's. If it gets legalized, one thing is for sure. The tourisum industry will see a spike in weekending in the Colorado.
I feel that it should be legalized for Medicinal use. I am currently on a "Contract" for my pain management and have been told that if I were to get a "Medicinal Marijuana Usage Card" (which I have been approved for) that I will lose my perscription for my current pain medications. My current pain management program only takes the edge off of my pain (I have servier Sciatica due to a highly detieriated disk in my lower back).
Some days I can't alk for the pain. I "May" benefit from the usage of marijuana. I beleive that there should be better discretion by the doctors who perscribe. It seems some doctors just want the quick high fee to line thier pockets. I don't know how well it could help me with my pain as I can not risk the recending of my "Pain Management Contract. If it were legalized, I ould hope I could posibly use both it it helped and live a more productive life.
Cannabis WILL help with your Sciatica and it will improve mobility with degenerative disc disease. In 1994 when I was 13 years old I was diagnosed with the disease and had a herniated disc removed and no fusion. For years I was on pharmaceuticals, when I was 18 I started smoking "pot" cause of course I was 18. At the time I thought it was just to get high, but as the months went on, I noticed that I was not having spasms(which I would have every day) and that I was able to walk better. I have since stopped all pills and injections, and have not had any problems, unless I do not consume cannabis for an extended period of time. With cannabis, I feel like I can be a productive member of society because I am able to walk, jump, skip and most of all, work!
Either I misunderstood a portion of the show, or it's incorrect in reporting that the ballot for legalizing marijuana is set for a vote for Washington and Oregon. It's my understanding that the measure has already passed in both States. Or am I misinformed?
FLAMINGO0512 your not the only one. I've read MANY stories of people "getting high" and causing bodily harm not only to themselves but to others as well.
You seriously need to review your reading materials, because you're definitely exposing your brain to a slew of misinformation and a ton of distortion!
I find this off because you can "read" a lot of crap, but not truly know what its like. Propaganda is made to scare you, to make you believe that this stuff is incredibly harmful for all the wrong reasons. More damage, corruption, and negative things happen because of this war on drugs. Just the industrial benefits of hemp alone are greatly hindered due to this war.
This is a plant, you can grow in a cup, that is natural, that can help with anything from pain relief, to stress relief, to anxiety problems. This is a major blow to the pharmaceutical companies who push all these toxins into our body and 2 years later release a commercial saying if anyone was hurt or killed to call this lawyer. No one has died from smoking pot, literally you know how amazing that is compared to everything else thats out there? Alcohol, tobacco, for christ sake aspirin and tylenol!
Honestly, the hardest thing is overcoming years of propaganda used as a way to invade privacy, incarcerate our nation, ruin lives financially and destroy peoples possibilities at a career. The damn president admitted to being a pot head, THE CURRENT ONE. Legalizing will have a vast benefit to our economy, or nations criminal record of prisoning a fourth of our population, and have a major industrial boom.
Please state your sources. How many of those people were on other drugs besides cannabis? Also, I read Obama was born in Kenya and a Muslim, and that Mitt Romney has a pair of special underpants and took the Oath of Lying for the Lord, does that make it true?
This is baloney, of course. You fail to realize the majority of voters who voted for medical marijuana, primarily wanted to move marijuana as far as possible toward re-legalization for all adult consumers - medical and recreational. Proof is the 46 percent of the vote for California's Prop 19 to re-legalize marijuana, in 2010.
Many people think marijuana consumption causes accidents like alcohol does. It doesn't, for various reasons. Research has shown marijuana is less intoxicating. More importantly, while alcohol drinkers think they are better drivers and so drive faster and more aggressively, marijuana consumers are very aware of their altered consciousness and correctly judge when they are too impaired to drive - refraining from doing so. If they must, they correctly compensate for their altered state by driving slower and more cautiously.
The point is, judgement is not affected like it is with alcohol. Marijuana consumers simply don't put themselves or others in harm's way. Consequently, the preponderance of the research shows marijuana is NOT a significant cause of auto accidents
Marijuana and Driving: A Review of the Scientific Evidence

100 million Americans have consumed marijuana. There are an estimated 30 million current consumers. The vast majority consume moderately - on the weekends or less, and are successful, hard-working, respected members of their communities. They are from all walks of life and loved by the families they support.
Marijuana is as American as apple pie - and healthier.
