- Today, with the signing of an anti-ballistic system in Poland, Secretary of State Rice is playing the Russian roulette with world peace and the lives of Americans. Two weeks ago, a surprise attack in South Ossetia by the American-trained and American equipped Georgian troops provoked a strong response by the Russian military. Now, after a flurry of anti-Russian rhetoric, Rice is signing a deal with the Polish government saying it is to protect Poland from Iran. We have gone through that road already with Reagan %u201CStar War%u201D system during the Cold War. The Russians are sending strong warning concerning this agreement. It represents to them of a symbol of what the World Trade Center is for terrorists.
I need to remind everyone of WWI. It began in an atmosphere of grand military alliances, of old animosity, and suspicion. The military staffs of the military alliances developed faulty war plans that misjudged their own strengths and weaknesses. The results were 4 long years of slaughter and destruction which still had long term consequences a century after the signing of the Armistice.
When Rice signed the deal with the Poles stressing Article 5 of NATO, she may as well tell to the American public to be ready to send their husbands, their sons and daughters in harm%u2019s way and die for a cause which is foreign to them and the nation interests. - Reply to this comment
