Suburban Chicago Man Retrieves Stars And Stripes That've Been Tossed; He's Grabbed Hundreds
- I would like to invite any and all of you who read this and love our country and expecially love our current troops serving in any number of capacities around the world and if you love our veterans from ALL eras and ALL branches of service to come to our website. We want to connect our veterans up with the community around them to support them and help them to know there are plenty of us who revere and respect them and think they are AWESOME ! And we want them to understand that plenty of us think this way and we want them to recognize this in themselves....
Please join us.... http://www.vetsmeetvets.org We are a non-profit, non-partisan, non-discriminating organization ! You do not have to be currently serving or a veteran of a former time to join our ranks. We want you to meet the veterans in your community and for the veterans in your community to meet you! We want to put people together because there is magic in numbers. The load is a lot easier to carry when more than one person is hefting it on his or her back.
I am a US Navy Veteran, served durning the Vietnam War but never got overseas as they were only sending women who were nurses. I was a corpsman, a medic, so a support to the military medical team, but women were not allowed to go quite as freely as they are now. My mother served in the Army in Paris during WWII, my dad was a career AF officer, serving 22 years from before Korea and through the Vietnam time but I don't believe he served in country either.
My husband is a 23 US Navy Corpsman who served several times with the Marines and on board two different ships, one on the West coast and one off the East coast. He has served in some hostile waters, but did not see actual combat during Vietnam nor the first Gulf War for which he regrets.
My two grandfathers served during WWI and I have a mulititude of aunts, uncles and cousins who have also served....so this is one girl to whom you do not speak ill of nor disrespectfully of our country or the Flag that so gallantly waves for all of us or I will respectfully invite you to leave this great nation of ours.
We have our faults and our limitations, but I would invite you to think about where it might be better to live? And if you think so, why are you still living here?
Sincerely, jmmama - Reply to this comment

I'm not a redneck nor a Christian nor a conservative and I fly my flag proudly.
The only days very soon that are going to be over are that your idiocy will eventually be seen for what it is little man. - Reply to this comment

- To Quapawsix : I am a combat veteran who served in Vietnam. As far as I am concerned people who put down the American flag are no better than canine fecal matter. (I am excercising my right to freedom of speech too. ) After all I fought for it.

- The american flag doesn't stand for anything other than lies, murder, torture, theft, greed, conspiracy, and deceit. This country has really hit the $h!tter. Thanks george w bush.

Well if that's how you really feel pack your trash up and move to iran or saudi arabia!
Folks, if you have a flag that isn't serviceable you really should have it burned. The VFW usually burns flags as a public service one day a year. I think they do it around Flag Day.
Same thing goes for your Bible. If it is falling apart, break the binding and COMPLETELY reduce it to ashes. - Reply to this comment

They are made in China, just like everything else.
In 2006, over 5.3 million dollars in American flags were imported by the U.S. from other countries, primarily China. This figure is consistent with other years, except for 2001, when almost $52 million in U.S. flag sales were imported after 9/11. - Reply to this comment
- This is AS I SEE IT, by Mike "Mainer Mike" Brown.
What a fine service to our country Mr. Olsen has done, and will continue to do.
I'm glad he's getting national attention for this. It's a good deed during trying times for the U.S.
It's also nice to know where to send my flags when the time comes to have them revived. It's better than just throwing them in the garbage. That's not the American way to treat a flag.
