To all of those who think the American flag doesn't stand for something good, well, I would point out the last election. Fourty-three times our country has had a peaceful course direction. Sure, we've made mistakes, but here is the beauty of the USA. We screw up; we peacefully change course and then we try to do better. As someone who has studied world history, we have a better track record than the rest of the world. Sorry, but it's a fact. It doesn't mean that we can sit back on our laurels, but we have been trying harder than anyone else to do what's right. I challenge you to get of your duffs and do something other than be a bunch of internet quarterbacks. It's easy to throw stones; it's not so easy to get up and try to make the world a better place. By the way, to paraphrase Madison, the Consitution was written in such a way that our government could be run by devils, because if men were angels there would be no need for a government. So, are you so pure that you can be called an angel?

The flag used to stand for something - Peace, Freedom - now it stands for Oppression, Greed, Hatred, Warmongers.

I still hang the flag Proudly hoping that one day those values will be restored to it by our elected officials. But until the day that Lobbying is outlawed for what it is - Bribery - nothing will change.

Hu-ah! I get that a lot of Americans don't respect that flag. Heck, I support people's Constitutional right to burn the flag as political protest. However, to throw it out in your garbage... Ugh... totally repugnant. Perhaps it is the 5 years I served in the military, but when I see the flag raised or lowered, I actually stop what I'm doing and stand respectfully. I don't understand what is happening to people today when they don't seem to care. While it's symbol, it's still the symbol of everything we hold dear - our Constitution and our country. So, I have to say I'm really glad this guy is getting an award for seeing that these flags are properly destroyed.
