Comments on: Student Strip Search Heads To High Court
Justices To Hear Case Of 13-Year-Old Ariz. Girl Who Underwent Invasive Search For Ibuprofen Pills
- Ahhhh...
The incessant search for Advil.
Let us all strip search each others daughters for it.
Sheesh. Silly beyond belief.

- The school was "out of line" to do the search, but the girl (now a junior college student) inferring that she is still 'traumatized" by the "ordeal" is an obvious liar. The school should be sanctioned and have to pay court costs, but this "honor student" is being less than "honorable'" in pursuit of the school district's taxpayers "deep pockets."
Don't be so sure of this. When I was her age, I was very self-conscious about my body. I dreaded having to change in the locker room during gym class and never removed my underwear there. When I did change I went out of my way to keep myself from exposing anything more than I had to. I hated having to turn my head and cough for my doctor. Not everyone reacts the same way or thinks the same way about the sanctity of their body. I can tell you right now that had the same situation occurred with me there would have been a violent confrontation in order to protect myself, and had that failed and I was forcefully disrobed, I very likely would have committed suicide afterwards from the humiliation and disgrace of it all. My views about my body didn't start to change very much until I was about 22-23 years old. It may never change for some people. - Reply to this comment
- What is the BIG deal?? Have you lost your mind, lets start with this....
Article the sixth [Amendment IV]
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be sized
Maybe the schools have forgotten but the people do have rights and the schools are not above the LAW, I hope and pray that the school is ordered to pay this young woman a very large sum of money in damages and that the nurse and secretary as well as any one else involved go to jail for a long time for this sexual assault, no child should ever be subjected to what this young woman has been - Reply to this comment
- In fact there is one teacher in particular that is GONE because of erasmus.

Also I would like to say that there had been MANY parents trying to get rid of this teacher, with no success. He was a disgusting pervert. He was always saying inappropriate things to the kids. He had been warned over and over again. He also was giving 85% of the class "D"s and "E"s, calling them stupid, and whining to everyone because he didn't have the "B" students. He got stuck with the losers. Some of these students, as well as my own kid, had never gotten below a C+. - Reply to this comment
- This "Zero Tolerance Policy" is ludicrous: It lacks common sense (i.e., a strip search of a 12 or 13 year old is SEXUAL ABUSE, ibuprofen is not a controlled substance, etc.), and these lawsuits are a huge waste of taxpayer money. The first court should have shut this down at the outset by treating the district like a sexual predator, which is what it deserves. We have to protect our kids, but this is the OPPOSITE of protecting kids! And to say that this is Constitutional????? The OPPOSITE of Constitutional in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY. But then the Bush years were not known for Constitutionality and magical and Orwellian thinking seemed to be the ongoing excuse. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this horrible behavior, and I hope this child finally gets the justice she deserves (along with every other child treated badly as a result of these STUPID STUPID STUPID "Zero Tolerance Policies"). I have no patience for stupidity OR lack of common sense and I hope a majority on SCOTUS see this the same way. What is this country coming to?????

- How many times has erasmus gone up against a public school in THE USA?
Seems like erasums is good at big talk, but she has never really walked the walk.

Erasmus has walked the walk several times here. In fact there is one teacher in particular that is GONE because of erasmus. : ) Of course they got rid of him at that school and pushed him off on to another. It's almost impossible to get a teacher fired. - Reply to this comment

- For all those saying the pills were unidentifiable: Look at some pills sometime. They *do* have markings on them. Call your local pharmacy and describe the shape, color, and markings of a pill. They'll tell you *exactly* what it is. And it'll take less time than a strip-search too.

- Obviously you've never worked in a public school in the USA.
If you went after them, they'd be giving you the stone face and circling the wagons.
They have all their ducks in a row.
Notice that this happened years ago, and it's been in the courts all this time.

Erasmus would have burn those wagons to the ground and wrung all those duck's necks. So maybe they would have settled a lot sooner to get rid of me.
Did I tell you I could be VICIOUS when it's called for? Especially when it comes to my kids. - Reply to this comment
