I remember when I was a little kid and would get home from school in time for "Kate Smith" . She was wonderful, all of my brothers and sisters would gather around just to watch her. Did we ever think about her "looks" never even talked about it. We just enjoyed her show so much even as children. Watching Susan Boyle took me back to those wonderful times. Thank you Susan and you to Ms Smith. You taught me how to enjoy REAL music.

It's all about self-esteem. Susan's past as reported by her was one of ridicule and hopelessness. Hard to build self-esteem on that foundation. But it appears that in caring for others esp. her mother, gave her a sense being wanted not just needed.
As a mental health counselor for over 23 years, I facilitated a women's self-esteem group for most of that time. It was free, for most who need it most cannot afford to pay for such sessions. It is amazing how women who were abused and battered both physical and mentally can rise above that once they learn to believe in themselves.
Her performance as viewed on u-tube was also perfect timing for me. Even as a teacher of self-esteem, I to can lose hope. After all, self-esteem in not a static state. It ebbs and flows.
I had planned to retire when I turned 62. Though I doubt I could ever stop teaching and helping others.
When it is in your blood, it is always in your blood. It is a part of whom you are...
But alas, with the stock market crash, I lost most of my savings as did so many in my age group.
However, Susan Boyle's song and triumph has lifted my spirits once again and has given me the hope I have taught so many others.

WOW!!!!!!!!! She is GREAT, So sad she didn't start singing before now as she obviously has such a talent to give to the world. Yet from what I hve read she was being a wonderful daughter and looking after her mother. She is just a Teriffic person all around.

Thank you CBS Early Show for doing an intelligent interview with Susan Boyle, unlike your counterparts on another network who asked things like "what do you plan to do with the money when you win?" and "Are you going to get a makeover?". Your folks seemed to understand the hope Susan is providing to people and concentrated on the phenomenon that her story is bringing to a world looking for good news. Bravo CBS!!!

My comment has to do with David Price's annoying remark at the tail-end of the Susan Boyle segment. He totally missed the point. He said something to the effect of that he enjoyed watching Susan Boyle, but really enjoyed watching the blonde bombshell judge. The blond bombshell judge, herself, very aptly pointed out that Susan Boyle's performance was a "wake-up call," meaning that upon first viewing Susan Boyle, expectations were low, probably having to do with perceptions in response to appearance. But the strong message received by all watching was that we should not be blinded by packaging, and that value can be found within. David Price missed it entirely. Good work Mr. Price.

You should try to see the video; it's worth it. I don't care for that style of singing, but it was pretty amazing to hear that voice come out so unexpectedly. I am very cycnical and not a big sucker for human interest stories, but I wish Susan the best. While we all expect crass behavior from commenters here and bloggers everywhere, maybe it's time to stop beating this woman's appearance and behavior into the ground. She's just a nice, unsophisticated, small-town, middle-aged lady, not a model or a pop artist. She's a singer, who cares what she looks like?

Susan Boyle you are as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. I truly hope someone shows you this. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. True beauty will shine from the inside out not the outside in. You have reminded me that even the most simple of people can be extraordinary. My daughter is one of those. Thank you for helping to relieve some of the burden of worry about her. You have shown me that God truely does take care of His own. I wish I could meet you someday, but even thoughh I know it will never happen I will still listen to your voice for you are forever in my heart and mind.
