I agree that the US is contributing to the drug wars near the Mexico border. Without our people's appetite for the product, they couldn't make tons of money. However, where did this 90% of the guns coming from the US come from. Even though gun sales are prolific here, I'm not sure we arent' just repeating a huge exaggeration somebody came up with. Also, Mexico has a huge corruption problem within their own law enforcement which has made all of this problem "mushroom". They just want us to finance their "drug war". Our government should not be so eager to accept figures pulled out of a hat and this constant blame game other countries use on us.

Did you have any specific websites in mind...my time is limited for the next week or so.

Just Google "illegal aliens + western growers association", you should come up with about 10k hits. The WGA has the political ear of both sides and is one of the primary obstacles in tightening boarder security.

so, jimmyc: do you equate all illegal activities? speeding and murder? double parking and rape?

Marijuana has been illegal for over 70 years and today it is America's #1 cash crop.
This means BILLIONS of dollars are going straight to drug dealers, drug cartels, and drug gangs because thanks to prohibition they have a monopoly on all black market profits. It's time to stop the insanity!

We can invade and occupy nations half way around the world, but we cannot secure our own borders. Sounds fishy to me. I think the government doesn't really want to win the war on drugs. It is way to profitable--both financially and politically--to fight a losing battle. And lets not forget the unconstitutional search and seizure that erodes our basic freedoms year by year. Losing the war on drugs is win-win for everyone.

Or if you were in bed with business and they needed that cheap labor.

Which Obama, the Bushes, the Clintons, and 95% of Congress certainly are. Unfortunately, the plan of getting cheap labor isn't really the true issue, since most corporations find it cheaper to go to the south pacific or china instead of hiring expensive Mexicans.

No, this is about appeasing the true money masters...Wall St. and the international banking cartel.

You need to research the Western Growers Association

My initial reaction to this Mexican problem was to offer a different kind of "mushroom" south of the border. However, there do appear to be benefits to this supply and demand dilemma. The more guns that cross the border going south, the fewer guns there are north of the border. If gangs seem bent on killing one another south of the border, they are not killing people north of the border. If the Mexican government doesn't like so many guns coming south, as the U.S. doesn't like so many illegal aliens coming north, let them do something about it. If the Mexican government doesn't like Mexican gangs killing Mexican gangs south of the border, let them put a stop to it. That's what the United States did, and without a bit of Mexican assistance. A nation that cannot provide security for the people within its own borders is a nation in name only. Works north of the border; works south of the border.

buanneyphwank - Ugh - what makes you think legal dope will be cheap? I live in PA where the state runs the liquor stores. Wine is a lot more expensive here than other states. If you let the Feds or states sell dope your $100 ounce will cost $125 with a 40% tax on top. Get a clue the government will have a monopoly. They will do an extra duty crack down on small dealers and then raise the prices.

Watch what Rendell does for legalized poker machines for an example. He will crack down on all illegal machines to put them out of business so they will pay the hefty license fees for the machines and pay a high percentage of the take in taxes.

honestabe8- Dude you are so totally clueless cause you are caught in your bong and hazy dope induced thinking - if that is what is passes for.

If 80% of arrests are for dope I would recommend you stop smoking dope. Thats a pretty simple conclusion.

He didn't equate dope to murder he equated illegal activity to other illegal activity. It is a law. Abide by it.

You seem to think that a few people who enjoy being stoned should have a legal right to it but want to ingore the fact that every time you make an illegal activity legal you make it easier to justify other illegal activities. If we legalize dope should we legalize car theft? Isn't that a no harm crime? Don't insurance companies pay for the stolen car? What about killig a homeless man? Nobody seems to care about them?

It wasn't the hippy drug loving generations in any way. another glass of Koolaid anyone?

Do you seriously equate smoking a joint with murder? If so, you identify yourself as the fool.
Posted by honestabe8 at 7:59 AM : Mar 26, 2009

You could always call it murdering a joint.
Posted by buanneyphwank

In Cheech and Chong's movie "Up in smoke", Chong murdered a cockroach so that he could smoke it.

"The "Zetas" the most violent Drug Smuglers known to this part of the world,
Have rescently started to recruit "american Citizens"
The "Zetas" were some of the Most Elite Mexican Army Commandoes, trained inside the U.S. with Additional training by the IDF in counterinsurgency,
Drying up the gun supply will go a long way to curve a growing threat.
what if the body count in Ohio or Phoenix was 2,300 a year and Kidnappers ran rampant?
Posted by Quetzalcoatl-Vive

And, just the same as the Aztec brigade in El Salvador was trained by the US, the Zetas were used by the Mexican elite to murder opposition and suppress dissent. The Mexican government had no problem when these thugs only killed on orders from the Mexican billionaire clas and their boy-toy, Calderon. Mexico is the longest running one-party dictatorship on the planet, now that the Soviet Union has collapsed.

Unfortunately, when you train a pit bull to kill, it may turn and kill you. This blood is all on the hands of the Mexican elite. Now that the Zetas are turning their guns on authority figures, the Mexican authorities are all worried. But they brought this on themselves with their own completely corrupt and vicious rule.
