mizzerz & Txgrouch2008.....Could it be that both of you are right? Maybe the answer is to raise tarrifs some and lower taxes some. I still believe that the tax rates to the folks making over 250 thousand a year should be raised but only by 5 or 6%. At that rate they would be about what they were when Clinton was in office. We need to find a way to get jobs back here, not burger flipping jobs but good paying jobs. As long as our tax policy encourages corporations to go off shore more jobs will leave. I''m not an expert on economics, barely passed it in college, but it seems there must be an answer somewhere that will solve the problem. I don''t know the answer but I do know that we can''t survive if people don''t make enough to pay for even the bare necessities of life. No one is going to buy a new TV if they can''t put beans on the table or keep the electricity from being disconected.

f there''''s four times as many people now, THEY''''D GET FOUR TIMES AS MUCH IN TARIFF REVENUE.

This isn''''t rocket science...

Posted by txgrouch2008

It is voodoo science It would be disastrous for the economy. Tariff wars, inflation, lower standard of living, higher prices, record deficits. YOu are a economic illiterate.

I have answered the question. It would not be mathematically possible. High tariffs would decrease tax revenue and increase the prices on everything else.

For example, the US does not domestically produce TV''''s. Tariff on TV''''s would increase the price. Who would pay triple for tv''''s.

It is simple economics. If you had any economic intelligence you would see it too. I can not teach you a course on economics online.

I agree, the U.S. ecomony is to a large degree dependent on imports. The price of everything would go up with that kind of tariff.

txgrouch2008....Maybe you can help me. There is a lot of talk on here about "liberals." Most of that talk is negative as if being a liberal makes one evil. I have no idea what being a liberal is exactly. To me it means a person who is open to new ideas and will listen to them. It means someone who cares about his fellow man and is ready to help when someone is in need. It means exhausting all means of diplomacy before resorting to war. That being said, can you explain to me why I am wrong to consider myself a liberal. I''m not trying to pick a fight with you. I sincerely want to know what you think. You seem to be a middle of the road guy. Sometimes I agree with you and sometimes I don''t so I figguered you would be a good one to discus this with. Thank you in advance for your reply.

hen they''''d start making TV''''s HERE AGAIN!!!

Don''''t you GET IT????????

Posted by txgrouch2008

And we would still have to pay triple, don''t you get it The American standard of living would decrease and yet you show no facts it would pay for the US Budget

IT WORKED!!

I say, let''''s go back to WHAT WORKED!!!

Posted by txgrouch2008

Such a reactionary policy, Lets go back to a system that barely paid for our country then. What makes you think that this tariff can pay for the government now

You can''''t answer the question.

What''''s stopping us from collecting the same revenue from import tariffs as we do income taxes? And then ELIMINATE THE INCOME TAX.

By ELIMINATING YOUR INCOME TAX and INCREASING YOUR INCOME.

And quite possibly, by ELIMINATING THE GASOLINE TAX, too.

Posted by txgrouch2008

Tell me how we could pay for the US government with import taxes.

Like foreign oil, the single biggest product imported into the United States.
Posted by chitownfire1 at 02:41 PM : Jan 02, 2009

And then we can ELIMINATE THE INCOME TAX.

What part of this are you not getting?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted by txgrouch2008

And how would placing a tariff tax on foreign oil help the price of gasoline in this country???

Tariffs on imports punish you for buying imports.

EVERYBODY ELSE WINS!

Posted by txgrouch2008

I can tell you have had no economic training. Tariffs would increase the price of all goods and could not possible take the place of the income tax.

It would cause a economic slowdown or collapse in the world with the trade wars.

Lack of competition would increase all industry competing with overseas competitors. Tariff''''s would only start tariff wars that would stifle our exports overseas.

Not a good idea

No, outlawing the opinions of others is THE STANDARD lieberal approach.
