Please explain to me why a company would want to retain employees who have assisted in this gigantic corporate failure which has resulted in this ridiculous bailout.

That''s easy. "The company" has no decision making capacity of its own. Decisions are made on its behalf by the same idiots who got "the company" into trouble in the first place. It would be irrational for those individuals to not put their own interests first. Therefore, no layoffs at exec. level.

Multi-million dollar bonuses?
Glad to know that our taxpayer dollars are being put to such excellent effect.

AIG should have to give back the money it got from the government if they give out those bonuses so called retention benefits. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then it probably is a duck! Don''t give out any more money until the government manages what it has given already.

I know how this works, the big bosses always help their buddies. I use to work with a guy that was promoted to CEO. He promoted all his golf buddies to VP''s and after a year and a half he was fired, all his buddies stayed and they got to lay off hundreds of "real workers" while they got big bonuses. I wasn''t laid off but my engineering dept had 8 supervisors for 5 workers! And they couldn''t understand why they couldn''t make money. Sometimes a college education doesn''t make you smarter, just makes you richer! No offense to anyone! Real workers is who these big companies need to run them, just like the military...Enlisted guys know what to do and they run the military, while the officers get the credit. truth is the truth...

This is stupid. None of them should get a bonus. If they want to quit, let them. Plenty of job seekers who will take the job.

djkinetic2k2 I think you had better do some research, the automakers are asking for a bridge loan to get them through the next couple of months. Since the banks won''t loan them or any other companies money. To prove the point read the article about the workers in Chicago, that took over their plant and wouldn''t leave until they were paid what was due to them. Who caused it Bank of America, they cut off the company''s credit and told them not to pay the workers. The banks, aig and wall street will never pay back those so called loans they got. Show me an honest wall street banker and I''ll sell you a bridge to nowhere in Alaska cheap.

ON A "SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT" NOTE....INSTEAD OF GIVING THE CAR INDUSTRY FUNDS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BE LOST DUE TO THE COMPETITION....WHY NOT SAVE THE BIG 3 BY REMOVING THE COMPETITION? WHY NOT SEND THE *** HOME??? OUR CAR INDUSTRIES CAN THEN "SAVE THEMSELVES"...AND HIRE ALL THE AMERICANS THAT WERE WORKING FOR HONDA, TOYOTA, AND THE REST. 2 TRILLION A YEAR GOES INTO *** CARS....AND THE PROFITS TO JAPAN. IF EVEN "ONE" OF THE BIG 3 GOES DOWN....MILLIONS OF AMERICAN JOBS GOES WITH IT. C''MON AMERICA....FORGET THE RE-SALE VALUE....YOU LIVE IN AMERICA...SO "BUY AMERICAN FOR OUR OWN GOOD". AGREED, THE BIG 3 JUST HAVE TO PRODUCE A BETTER PRODUCT...AND WE WOULD ALL BUY AMERICAN.... "RIGHT"?. WHERE IS OUR GOVERNMENT WHEN WE NEED THEM TO SEND THE JAPANESE CAR COMPANIES HOME?

txgrouch2008 AND olderthnadam YOUR BOTH RIGHT, WE NEED A NEW SYSTEM OF GOVERNING IN THE U.S. NOW THE BIG THING IS HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT IT!!!!! WELL NOW LETS SEE THE STRONGEST FORCE THAT THE US HAS GOING FOR THEM IS THE U.S. MILITARY!!!! THATS WHAT SCARES THE REST OF THE WORLD AND US. IF THE U.S. HAD NO MILITARY THEN THE U.S. HAS NO FUNCTIONING SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT!!!! NO ONE IS SCARED OF GEORGE BUSH BUT PEOPLE ARE SCARED OF AN F18 FIGHTER JET NO ONE IS SCARRED OF *** CHENEY BUT PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF AN ABRAMS TANK IF IT WASNT FOR OUR MILITARY THE GOVERMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN OVER!!! NOT EVEN THE LOCAL POLICE CAN PREVENT A REVOLUTION IT WOULD TAKE THE U.S. MILITARY TO STOP A REVOLT, BUT IF THE U.S. PEOPLE HAD THE U.S. MILITARY ON THEIR SIDE (HELL THE MILTIARY SHOULD THEY ARE OUR SISTERS, BROTHERS, AND AUNTS AND UNCLES AND HELL WE DIDNT SEND THEM TO WAR TO GET KILLED BUSH DID!!!!! THEN WE WOULD BE ABLE TO MARCH RIGHT INTO THE WHITE HOUSE AND KICK THAT KYKE''S A$$ ALL THE WAY BACK TO TEXAS!!!!! BUT THE REASON WE CANT DO THIS IS BECAUSE OUR GOVERNMENT IS VERY SMART BY KEEPING US GOING AT EACH OTHER THROUGH OUR DIFFERENCES ETC... RICH, POOR, BLACK AND WHITE, IF THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY WORKED TOGETHER THEN WE WOULD BE ABLE TO OVERTHROW OUR OVERSEERS AND TAKE BACK WHAT''S RIGHTFULLY OURS!!!! OUR DIGINITY AND RESPECT!!!!!

Any executive team that can get a group of idiots to donate $152,000,000,000.00 to their failed business deserves bonuses--very large bonuses. It is the idiots who gave them the money who need their heads examined.

AIG is justifiably laughing all the way to the bank. American taxpayers are the laughing stock of the world for putting up with a government that takes from the poor and gives to the rich in reverse Robin Hood style.

Mrs. Premise, for a stay-at-home mom raising kids in the path of Jesus, or whatever it was you said, you have some very nasty postings. I wouldn''t call you a Christian, given your condescending attitude.

Djkinetic2k2 IF YOU BELIEVE FOR ONE SECOND THAT AIG AND THE REST OF THOSE COMPANIES ARE GOING TO PAY BACK THOSE LOANS, THEN YOU ARE AS STUPID AS THE A$$HOLES THAT BAILED THEM OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!
