- They were no different than the youth in the 1960s - delusional, myopic, unwilling to challenge, question, rationalize or be objective. Except today''''s youth are a tad bit worse, since they''''re over-indulged, entitled, privleged and they think they''''re liberal, free-thinking and progressive. They''''re none of this and only maturity and living the hard life will make them grow-up, assuming their mommies and daddies aren''''t there to wipe the snot from their nostrils.

What''s wrong with maintaining a positive, optimistic view of the world. Just because Bush and the GOPigs have squeezed the joy out of living over the last 8 years, it doesn''t mean that paranoia is the way of the future. Why do conservatives have such a dour unhappy attitude to life - you''re like the Scots without the Scotch for crying out loud. Enjoy life; embrace a potential new beginning; nothing''s for sure - things can still go wrong - but at least today there''s hope for a change. - Reply to this comment
- And, usclimey, you are talking about the government run liberal controlled public education system that we call a "good" education of today, right? And where did all those radicals from the 60''s go? That''s right they went right in all those grand universities like the one''s the Kalidi and Ayers teach in. That is the reason why all these graduates voted for Obama,is because they didn''t receive the education that was available back in my day when real patriotism was taught and the honor of our founding fathers, and why the founding documents are so important to the life of this nation. But when these fine professionals you declare are so bright aren''t taught that then we see the result of their educational prowess. Obamaism.

- On the contrary, I feel that most of my generation voted for Obama for the very reasons that you said we lack: "willing to challenge, question, rationalize or be objective." We''''re just not as cynical yet.

Well said taletripper - your generation is the future, you don''t all have to grow up paranoid, war mongering right-wing crazies like kevnkar and WillofLa. The world needs far more of your educated enlightened personalities than those from the dark side. - Reply to this comment
- Credibility,
I second the nail on the head! You said much more eloquently than I did. I served my country for over twenty years and I can tell you that the clinton years were the worst for the military. I retired when I did mostly because of the "entitled" youth coming in with no work ethic and asking why all the time.

Let''s face it, a military where the underlings have the temerity to ask why is one that won''t work. I wish today''s military had had the balls to ask Bush why the fvck we need to be shot at in Iraq when we''re already doing a job in Afghanistan. If they''d told him to go jump in the lake then we wouldn''t be in half the mess we are now. - Reply to this comment

- Reagan was 23 years ago with the evil empire quote. The communists haven''t been a going concern in Eastern Europe since around 1993 when the satellite countries fell. What is dangerous about the Russians these days is not that they''re communists it''s that they''re trying to be capitialists, and Bush keeps on rattling his saber at them. I can''t believe we''re still seriously talking about communists who aren''t Chinese or Korean. Amazing.
Churchill was the one who came up with the "If you''re 21 and not a liberal, you don''t have a soul; but if you''re 50 and are not conservative you don''t have a brain" quote. Trouble is, he''s talking about European conservatives who have the same views as American democrats. Hence the joy all over Europe. The last time we dealt with someone with GOPig policies was 1945 and y''all helped us beat him.
As for the educated youth of the country - over 70% of people with advanced degrees voted for Obama as well. This is not their first election. And before you go on about liberal ivory towers, only about 1 in 4 PhD''s work in universities; the others have jobs in the "real world." - Reply to this comment

- CREDIBILITY2, you hit the nail on the head!!! And when you have a race of people who were never allowed by the Democrats to have the experience of working for what you want in life, but be told that they are entitled to something no one is, because of the color of their skin, we have one now in the White House who ran on the fact that he was Black instead of telling people what his true beliefs were, his policies, his plans, and how he wants America to continue to achieve greatness from what our Constitution promises everyone. Stick that in your dope pipe usclimey and smoke it along with whatever else you smoke.

- USCLIMEY, that shows what you know, which is nothing. The reason why Communism isn''t "feared" as much as it was, and you can''t say "back then" because President Reagan called the former Soviet Union "evil" as recent as 1985. They still are and are alive and well, and they need to be feared. Why don''t you ask a Georgian whether the Communists should be feared?. Back to my explination, the reason why Communism isn''t in the sights of Americans these days is because the liberals and the multiculturalists have rammed down the throats of Americans the we can "co-exist" with Communists beginning with Nixon. And it''s because of all this "multiculture" *** that we will be made wide open for another attack from our other enemy the Muslims.

- Just because someone goes to college, presumably the large group of kids that went for Obama, doesn''t mean they''re not stupid. I remember being in college in the 1960s, thinking I was all that, highly evolved intellectually, whatever. I look back on the youth that voted blindly for Obama just because he was against the war, looked good, was half black, talked impressively, etc. They were no different than the youth in the 1960s - delusional, myopic, unwilling to challenge, question, rationalize or be objective. Except today''s youth are a tad bit worse, since they''re over-indulged, entitled, privleged and they think they''re liberal, free-thinking and progressive. - GET OVER IT. The biggest upsurge in new voters was with the educated youth and they went to Obama in droves. They will be back, and they will still be liberal because they have a positive IQ.

Either way, they know nothing of politics. they have not lived through any of the history that lead here and they are in for a rude awakening. It''s easy to be liberal when you''re young but most people move to the center as they age and figure out what life is all about. - Reply to this comment
- SMURFCRUSHER, again your statement is evidence of your ignorance. This has nothing to do with that, as a matter of fact it is because Sen. McCarthy failed in his attempt to root out the Communists that indeed had infiltrated our government is the cause of why our society is mostly socialist today instead of still being based on our Constitution. But there are so many socialists in both Houses no one would stop something like all these bailouts.

You''re really something; a 21st Century MacCarthy troll - now I''ve seen everything. Take your meds man. Get a lobotomy. Fly off to Minnesota and die like the drunken sot your hero became. Do it quick - the pinkos are onto you!!!!!!!!!! - Reply to this comment
- JFRANCE5, you are right. But even further than that. The Democrats want to put a stop to the "wealth down" reality of life in America by finally killing the opportunity that comes from top down wealth generation by running the rest of the job generators out of the country so Americans will be even poorer than they became after the Democrats ran all of our manufactoring and industrial jobs out of the country, nearly killing the "middle class". With Obama in the oval office the death nell is sounding for the rest. Why do you think Obama talked so much about those making 250K? Those are the jobs that are the generators of the rest of the jobs the Democrats plan on killing. It''s the trickle down from the wealth of the corporations that allow people to make 250K. They''re dead.

- Get comfortable with the fact that your politics have been rejected by mainstream America
Are you kidding me. "mainstream america"? Last I checked this was still a close race not a landslide the difference being the ignorants who never voted in their lives turning out to vote for someone just because of his race. They know nothing of politics.

- AND I''''m guessing in about a decade or so the repubs will have it again.......BECAUSE when you are on top and hold all the power then you are the only one to blame....I''''m not dogging either side, I''''m just sayin

I don''t doubt what you''re saying, but the republican party will not be the same when it comes back. The Christian Taliban might still be involved, but neocons have been totally disceredited and will never rise again. - Reply to this comment
- ALL I CAN SAY IS YESTERDAY WAS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE. AND APPARENTLY THERE IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE SILLY PEOPLE WITH CRAZY THINGS TO SAY. BUT THIS IS AMERICAN, WHERE WE HAVE FREDDOM OF SPEECH. WE MAY NOT AGREE ON EVERYTHING BUT SUCH IS LIFE. LET''S MOVE ON FROM IGNORANT PEOPLE AND THEIR SILLY COMMENTS AND CELEBRATE THIS GREAT DAY FOR THE UNITED STATED OF AMERICA. WE HAVE A NEW BEAUTIFUL PRESIDENT, WHOM I LOVE AND DON''T KNOW. AND YES HE HAPPENS TO BE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN. AND FOR ALL THOSE HATERS GET OVER IT AND LET''S MORE THE HELL ON. PEACE.

- President Bush, speaking on June 18, 2002, 10:30 A.M. EDT:
[bq]
We are here in Washington, D.C. to address problems. So I''''ve set this goal for the country. We want 5.5 million more homeowners by 2010 -- million more minority homeowners by 2010. (Applause.)
I would have to see the context an the omissions to lend this any creedence. This was said in support of the legislation created by Frank and Dodd which would have passed anyway. Anyone would get on board with something like this. The fact is, The lenders and AIG writing policies on these bad loans which they did not have the capital to back are to blame. Let''s not forget the responsiblity of the homeowners who bought more than they could afford and now suddenly don''t have to pay up. I would like to have a bigger, nicer house but I bought responsibly. Fraudulent behaviour by private companies is not the fault of the president. Now we will have increased taxes on buisnesses which will drive up the cost of goods and services and drive still more jobs overseas and the poor get poorer. - Reply to this comment
- I am a former Army intellegence specialist who studied Communism and Socialism and Marxism and knows how to identify those things in order to help the people in countries who''''ve been taken over by those forms of evil how to defeat those kinds of domination of man''''s God given right to freedom.

Army intelligence - apart from being an oxymoron, if you had been in that group, you would be commiting treason by admitting it, even on a board like this. So I very much doubt your story. If it is true, however, you obviously studied und MacCarthy, only in that era was the fear of Communism so great in this country. - Reply to this comment
