Bill Designed To Rescue Wall Street Is Shot Down, Sending Dow To Record Point Loss
- I don''t vote on a certain party. I vote on the person.
For the American people todays no vote is a good thing. We need to fix the problems before liquid is handed over. Yes the markets took a huge drop, but how much is that due to speculators trying to teach the house a lesson?
It is all the politicians fault that knew that this was happening(the bad notes)and it is greedy people who have been stuffing money away.
I feel great about todays vote. I do not want to leave this mess for my children and grandchildren.
If the economy falls, we may need to go through hard times. Then we can look at where the problems lie and build it back up better. - Reply to this comment

- As a Democrat, I am disgusted with Pelosi and Reid. In such a highly charged political atmosphere, why would these MORONS have a press conference praising themselves and ignoring the REPUB input. I think the whole bunch of them--Dems & Repubs--should be kicked out of office. These fools who are supposed to represent us and look to the universality of any measure have opted to put POLITICS first. So, come election time, I think we should put new candidates first and get rid of this garbage!!!

I hope you''re right, but I fear not. A lot of the Bush tax cuts were invested overseas. Failing at this bailout means much of that investment may fail completely, leading to consequences here at home. Its a delicate time in a newly globalized economy. I''m a lib who thinks Bush should never have cut taxes; but that''s history. Failing to ''buy in'' to the globalized economy his tax cuts have partially created is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Americans were stupid to vote for Bush and allow him to hijack their domestic concerns into a round of casino-betting on the international marketplace (tax cuts). But now that they have, they are poised to ''cut that tie''. I think the bailout should go through, but Americans need more ownership of the companies in default, so we can participate in future profits if/when some of these investments with our tax dollars pay off globally. - Reply to this comment

- Thanks, please consider voting for McCain, he''''s the most honorable of the two and a greater supporter of Veterans and Soldiers, as he stated in the debate

Then why are his lying TV commercials still airing? Thanks, but no thanks. - Reply to this comment
- The house is flirting with the second Great Depression. There is no question in my mind after 40 years of studying the economy, financial institutions and the Great Depression that our economy is sinking. The second Great Depression is on its way. Just remember the Great Depression was the major cause of WW II. So you house members who voted against the rescue plan to save your jobs, just look to the heavens there are 200 million souls waiting to tell you "Go To Hell." Maybe you had better worry about your souls. This is the most important issue of the last 150 years. Jerrold Peterson Professor of Economics Emeritus University of Minnesota, Duluth
