Try being a teacher or even a bus driver at inner city schools. It is a war zone. Teachers and drivers are attacked daily. - Reply to this comment

What is an organized militia ? I spent 20 years in military, was subject for recall for ten years after retirement and spent 15 years in law enforcement. I think i would qualify as being trained for any militia. - Reply to this comment

As a licensed instructor you should be allowed to deny a permit to anyone you deem not fit to safely use a firearm. I do not advocate everyone be allowed to use firearms either. I would also like to see a self defense and awareness class be taught to the t
teachers, to help insure they do not let themselves become victims. - Reply to this comment
- Why not just Tasers, if the students are too out of control, they can copy the cops, and Taser the student until they''re dead.

- If it is a program where the teachers are well trained to use the firearms i am in support of it. It could save our childrens lives. I refused a counseling job at an inner city school because i would not be allowed to carry. I refuse to go into inner city without a weapon. The laws are established you have to be a certain age to carry legally. I would not advocate students being allowed to carry unless they were police officers taking classes.

- "What a great idea! How about if we let students carry guns also, to protect themselves in case a teacher goes berserk."
That''s the stupidest thing I''ve read in a long time. Any student or teacher who''s going to go "berserk" won''t care what''s legal. Only that the killing field is unarmed. When was the last time you heard of a high school teacher going "postal". High school students are too young for concealed carry permits but other teachers and administrators would be a good first responder if some teacher did go berserk. - Reply to this comment

- Question:Would ANY teacher be required to carry a gun under this board ruling?

- Exactly, gun laws only restrict the citizens to protect themselves. Criminals unless they are really dumb, do not get their weapons legally. The 2nd Amendment is clear, "Congress shall pass no law". Any law that contradicts the U.S. Constitution is null and void-U.S. Supreme Court. Guns do not hurt anyone, careless people do. There was a story in LA a few weeks back of a police officer who had his 3 year old in the back seat and was playing with the officers gun. It is about personal responsibility, please go read the Declaration of Independence and Constitution instead of American Idol, remember why we are America and what our families died to protect. Our founders warned of ALL of this, we are just not taught that, go read the quotes yourselves. Educate yourselves, do not listen to the propaganda.

- This is why we have the 2nd Amendment because a lot can happen before the police arrive. She knew how to use the weapon and was responsible.

Armed 85-year-old woman makes intruder call cops
From the Associated Press
2:32 PM PDT, August 19, 2008
POINT MARION, Pa. -- An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said.
"I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun," Leda Smith said.
Smith heard someone break into her home Monday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor''s home was burglarized a few weeks ago.
"I said ''What are you doing in my house?'' He just kept saying he didn''t do it," Smith said.
After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.
The boy will be charged with attempted burglary and related offenses in juvenile court, Trooper Christian Lieberum said. He was not identified because of his age.
"It was exciting," Smith said. "I just hope I broke up the (burglary) ring because they have been hitting a lot of places around here." - Reply to this comment

Before this law was passed we heard all the talk of shoot outs going down the highway and shoot outs at the ok corral.Guess what,it never happened. No reason law abilding people shouldnt be allowed to protect themselves. Theres more law abiding poeple then criminals. The gun ban in DC did alot of good didnt it? If we all listened to the anti gun crowd we be helpless and at the mercy of the local police.Guns dont kill people,it takes someone to aim and pull the trigger.

- What a great idea! How about if we let students carry guns also, to protect themselves in case a teacher goes berserk. The principal should keep an arsenal to make sure everybody is inline. The school should also have watchtowers manned by snipers as an additional safety measure. Now THAT''s a truly safe place for your kids.

- In Homer Simpsons home one day one of our gangs visited his house with the intentions of you know what against Marge and Bart and Sally. But in Homers Simpsons world he has the right to use his gun for protection in his home so when the gang came crashing through his front door, Homer not knowing what was on their minds pulled the trigger on his glock and walla bernard Geotz was born! Homer after it was all done went and held his family close to him and the family held him as well and wept. They knew that what Homer did was to protect the security of the family. The Simpsons were never the same but none of them were crippled with the disease of helplessness that this gang would of inflicted on them had homer not owned a gun legally and for the protection of his family!
They went on in life to make cartoons for the whole world to enjoy!
A happy ending that would of been tragic if not for the decision of the father to defend his family buy owning a gun legally and using it responsibly!
The names have been changed to protect the people whos lives have been destroyed and maimed so that people who have no compassion or empathy do not adulterate them a second time! - Reply to this comment
- To drew1403: You are wrong. As early as 1960, a student on the rifle team of Olean High School in New York, took a rifle to school and killed some students and faculty. As a teacher who spent 41 years in the classroom, I can tell you that the idea of "arming" teacher is asinine! The end result would simply be to make more deadly weapons available for unstable youths to use on that teacher and/or the other students when he took it away from the "authorized " person. The answer to the problem of uncivilized "gun toting students" is NOT to send more killing machines into the classroom! When will we set stronger restrictions on gun ownership? If you are so worried about the "Big Brother Government" registering guns and somehow suppressing your ability to "resist" the resulting control, why do you stand by and let that same "BBG" register every 18 year old male, when there hasn''t been a draft for years?

- Excellent idea! Might get teachers interested in another career too, so they can arrest the dropouts they weren''t able to teach... www.LawOrderCareers.com

Thanks, I needed that! - Reply to this comment
- Funny how before 1995 when guns were outlawed, there were NO school shootings. What is s dangerous about this? The teachers will react quicker than the police.
