Outraged Mom Of Special Needs Son Talks Exclusively With The Early Show
- FlangeSqueal & SharnCedar - obviously 2 very self-centered, inconsiderate people! They obviously have no experience with autism, or as Flange calls them, "damaged". I hate to tell you this, but NO ONE is perfect, we are all damaged. Some of these kids are more brilliant than you could ever imagine! And do you have any idea how disruptive and badly behaved "normal kids" can be these days? Kids that have been given no limits, n

- Are you kidding me !?!?!?! I think there should be a panel of parents stand this teacher up and each take turns telling the others what they hate about this teacher. And THEN take a vote on if she should keep her job !! Is this the kind of person that need to be teaching and influencing our kids ??? This is certainly NOT the example that I would want my children to learn! Teaching is MUCH more than Reading, Writing & Arithmetic! It is about love for the kids, a devotion to helping them learn and grow, a sense of teaching the next generation to be successful, considerate people. Boy did this woman fail that test! If you can''t fire her, then put her in a Board of Ed office filing or being forced to deal with outraged parents!!!

- Pretty *** sad. If they singled out a kid they perceived to be homosexual like that, there would be heck to pay. Wouldn''t there??

- It seems to me that if anything even close to this happened in the classroom the teacher is not properly trained in developmentally appropriate practices for children and she does not have training in inclusion of all children in classrooms. It would be nice for the school to share what they are planning to do in this case, what other parents are saying that are part of this class and what other teachers are saying. You wonder if this is a lack of training in the whole school or in just this teacher.
as a side note there are parts of the country that require little for teachers to teach in classrooms, and this is a great wake up call for all of us to pay more attention to the quality of education in this country and the quality of the teachers in the classroom. When we start putting education as important as other things we can begin to create better environments for children to learn and better teachers to teach them. - Reply to this comment
- Buddah, if my kid voted against him and I found out I would probably have a nice long talk with him about how cruel that is. I would also want that teacher fired. I wonder if she really did this though. I am hearing the mothers story. But what is the teachers story. There is the mothers truth, the teachers truth and then somewhere in between is the truth. This just sounds too unreal to me. I would like to hear the other side for the sake of objectivity.

The teacher is refusing to talk. So that means she''s taking her time to get her story together! If she was totally innocent, she''d be shouting it from the rooftops and could prove it!
She''ll come out with some mush mouth behaviorial modification clap trap, pop psych story...that''ll sound good after she''s talked to her lawyers. - Reply to this comment

- I am sitting here wondering to myself...What on earth was she thinking doing this in the first place? What movitated her? Why would she feel she should do this? Was she frustrated with this child? Is she sadistic and cruel? I just want to know what would movitate someone to do something so weird and cruel. That is just sooooo mean. The comment about kids being overdiagnosed...um...I doubt you have a medical degree and there are symptoms of this. I think children are overmedicated at times, but not overdiagnosed. There is a thing called the evolution of medicine. Get out of the dark ages. Shaking my head in disgust. This world really aggravates me. Why does stuff like this go on?

- My nephew has autism and I was talking with my sister about this story. Tommorrow she has to do a meeting with her public school about registering her son in kindergarden. She is nervous about it. Then to hear a story like this really put butterflies in her stomach. I am completely outraged by this and this teacher should be fired. I feel you should sue the socks of the school for this. Not for monetary gain but to set a presendence and to show this is unacceptable. How aweful. I don''t care if you kid is not well behaved even. Perhaps he behaves but as an example. He is a small child and this is disgusting behavior for an adult. She should be ashamed of herself. Tell your son I vote for him to stay. He is adorable by the way and almost looks a little bit like my nephew. This actually brought a small tear to my eye. What a cruel world.

- I am sure this teacher goes to church, mosque or temple. I don''t know of any religion that allows for the abuse of children. If the teacher is a Christian and the child is one as well, the bible condemns her for her actions. Jesus spake of offending children in Matthew 18th chapter verses 3-6. For the police to say this was not abusive is outrageous. This teacher should not be allowed near children. The beauty of the world is that we are all different. Throughout history people have tried to do away with different races of people. Yet today Jews, blacks, Indians, etc. still rise and are strong. We must learn to embrace our differences and not eradicate them. For this teacher to not take time to teach the kids in her class that this child bled the same as they bled, breathed the same air they breathed shows that she may have the title teacher, but she has a lot to learn.

- Ok that''s just stupidity by an adult. Are we sure she needs to be teaching such young minds! Ok I need to take a vote. Do our tax dollars need to be paying her? YES or NO ! Does this person deserve to teach or be taught? If this woman keeps her job, I would hope that the principal looses his/hers.

I''''m not even sure I believe in so-called Aspergers. Kids are wayyy over-diagnosed these days with one condition after another. There are many forces at work for these diagnoses to not only to be proclaimed, but for society to accept and enforce them. Firstly, the pharmaceutical industry has tremendous interest in selling as many billions of dollars of drugs as possible.

I find it TOO strange how we seem to have ALL these people here with kids who have all these weird disorders with 100 new names, and oh by the way we have all these PILLS and meds we have to have these kids on now too. SO either we have parents who are mass breeding genetically defective offspring, or we have severe poisoning going on take your pick.- Reply to this comment
- I challenge each and every one of you to an election. Send e-mail to the principle at cul1ym@stlucie.kl2.fl Don%u2019t be afraid to be herd. Voting seems to be a common practice at this school so tell the principle what you like or dislike about Wicked Wendy and vote for this B_T_H to STAY or GO. Personally I don%u2019t think she is worthy of being decent Crosswalk or Bus Driver material. And I am sure we have all herd the standards of %u201Calot%u201D of them.
If at this school (if you can call this a school) this is SOP our opinions may not count but maybe they can make some sort of difference.

Your opinions dont matter one iota unless you are residents of that school''s school district, people in California don''t care what you think about XY or Z when you live in Ohio and dont pay one cent of California taxes and dont vote there. - Reply to this comment
- There''s no way the kids OR the teacher can actually VOTE someone OUT from a public school class any more than that teacher and students can vote you out of your JOB, it was a joke.
"PRINCIPALS EMAIL ADDRESS!

- This young childs abilities should be lauded and his peers relish in them.

ANd what exactly are his "abilities''? that we''re supposed to ''laud'' over?
"I am really surprised that no one has gone to Zabasearch and searched for her...
If they did, I am sure like the 5th one down would have her address and phone number..
That really surprises me.. I personally would never call or write her nor would I recommend anyone else do that but it seems like people would...

Well, youd better hope if you call that its the RIGHT number, people change numbers all the time and those searches are hardly error free either. It''s YOU who can be charged with telephone harassment. But in any case, what exactly do you think CALLING the woman is going to accomplish when you shout some obscenity or threat and hang up?
Im sure by now she changed her number to an unlisted one - Reply to this comment
- As the mother of a 5 year old diagnosed with AS I can emphasize with this mother in the article. AS individuals have difficulty interacting with others, trouble making friends, take things literally, and have very limited social skills, etc and THEIR BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS ARE NOT FORMS OF MANIPULATION OR JUST TO MAKE AN INDIVIDUALS LIFE DIFFICULT!!! They do not know how to interact with others. AS children act out because not knowing how to interact with others or their sensory issues is like experencing physical pain because these experences can be confusing or frightening. My son can''t take loud noises or certain colors because he will go into sensory overload. OH, and they are the most unique and wonderful individuals you can have contact with especially when it comes to their knowledge of their limited interest. What my 5 year old could tell you about NASCAR would leave your heads spinning! Their thinking is concrete and they interpert speech literally, you can not use idioms, double meaning, or sarcasm. Yes having a son with AS is challenging but this precious child has developed me into a more tolerable person and I thank God every day for him.

- i am sitting here crying after reading about the precious little Asberger child. I am blessed and priviledged to be the grandmother of an 8 yr. old Aspie. That teacher must be dealt with as the child abuser that she is. I will gladly help raise money for a legal team to go after her and the school. CBS has my permission to give you my e-mail address. This kind of abuse cannot be tolerated.

- well, as a bus driver, I take offense at the part where you said that teacher wouldn''t be decent bus driver material. I say, vote her out. let the kids say what is wrong with her, then voter her out. I just wonder what young Alex has had to endure through what should have been a great year for him. As a teacher assistant who shadowed an asperger child for many years, I imagine Alex is a delightful, intelligent child and I hope things work out better than what they are now.

I concur and would like to do something about this. Since there seem to be so many opinions lets see if we can make them count.
