Girl, 10, Succumbs To Brain Cancer After Inmate Dad Gets One Last Visit
- ubrew: Don''t worry, in a few more years, you will probably come to realize there is more diversity than your mind has discovered so far. I was suggesting that a man going through such a devastating situation, often decides that it is time to take on the adult world realistically, instead of in his "adolescent fantasy" identity, of which too often, drugs are a part. I did it, my friends did it, and my sons have done it. I am not being "holier than thou," but rather, stating the reality of such a sobering life experience. As I said, perhaps you haven''t had the opportunity to adopt a different perspective yet.

Frankly. If my society treated my little girl that cruelly... if I wasn''t a drug addict before, I''d be one after.
That''s what this society hatches. Drug addicts and Puritans. It''ll continue to do so until the drug addicts realize that the Puritans are addicted to acting ''holier than thou'', and start kicking some *ss. - Reply to this comment
- Maybe if we showed some mercy and respect to some of the people who chose not to do the same theyll come out of prison with a little more respect foer the average person in society and fly right... drugs are ruining the world

I agree whole-heartedly with your post with one exception. It is not drugs ruingin the world, it is the drug war. A percentage of any population, throughout history has always abused some substance, but making substances illegal exacerbates the problem into a systemic problem ofr society. Until humans quite trying to micro-manage other people, we will never be truly civilized. - Reply to this comment

- It is so rare to see common decency these days, you have to leave a comment. This poor little girl, talk about a bad deck.

wango does''''nt know the difference between judging people and giving a personal opinion!!!!
That little girl deserved her Dad at her time of need no matter what he has done!! Bottom line!!!!!

Then I will assume both of these statements are your emtionally charged personal opinions, not anything based on facts or reason. - Reply to this comment
- I''m glad the little girl got to see her daddy before she died. The tragic part is that the daddy neglected and basicly abandoned his child by turning to crime. Even more tragic is the millions of father''s (even some mothers) who have abandoned their children, pursuing instead self gain.

anybody who judges people without knowing them or thier story is not worth the time of day!!!

You don''t know the family in this article, but it seems you judged them (favorably).
Then you judged everyone who disagrees you (lots of people you don''t know), writing them off as not being worth the time of day.
Can you say "hypOcrite"?

- Happy ending"! Are you out of your mind? A little girl is dead and her father was supposed to settle for a twenty-minute crumb of time with her on her deathbed.

Creep... everyone is going to die, death is not a big deal. The happy ending is the child was able to hang on until she saw her father one last time. - Reply to this comment
- Unconditional love of a child. I hope that she find happiness in GOD''s world without the intervention of human kine

There is nothing even remotely "happy" about this. It''s no less outrageous than if they had refused to let her see him at all. - Reply to this comment
- I agree with you Snow, it was the daughter who was being punished for her father''s actions and he should have been given some sort of conditional leave to be with her for FAR MORE than 20 minutes four different times.

- I don''t know, but I think that he should have been able to spend more then 20 min''s with his dying child. It''s the way our government works, look at everything that is going on, we as a nation just was told that 4000 as been killed and we do nothing but look at TV and wounder if the new shows will be on. I think its time that in stead of the government telling us how to act, maybe we the people should tell the government how to act.

- For every heart-rending case like this, there are probably a hundred cases where a drug-user has abused, manipulated, and/or outright stolen from family members to support his/her habit. I certainly know that my family is one such case - hope my brother stays in jail for another year.

- Good story that had a happy ending. However, I wish the man could have been with his child when she died. I understand a man with a life sentence being held back from such a situation, but a man that did little hurt to society after he served most of his term? Give me a break! He should have been holding her hand when his child died.
It''s sad to see so many people sitting behind their computers and attacking others. I''ll bet my life that most of you who are "attacking" and not "posting" an opinion are really cowards!
It''s easy to write what you think when you know you won''t be challenged in a puplic setting! But remember... all posts can be resurected by CBS. What you say may come back to haunt you...lol! - Reply to this comment

Let''''s assume you''''re right. What''''s your point?

The point is in reference to pollrollers suggestion that drugs be legalized. The repercussions from drug use/sales are bad enough as it stands, never mind legalizing the junk. Had Mr. Yaeger kept away from drugs, he could have been a better and present father. - Reply to this comment
- Per capita the US imprisons more people than any other country in the world. 7 times higher than any other western country. Why, in the land of the free, are 2 million+ men/women/children locked up? It costs us $35 Billion a yr &construction another $7 billion? Probation numbers went up 400% in 25 years (population grew 20%).The crime rate fell but tougher sentencing and the focus on low-level drug offenders produced record numbers.Prisons are built in rural areas:1)low-paid jobs for unemployed in poor areas 2)Federal funds going to rural areas are under the control of the extreme right.3)Political gain. Prisoners can''t vote, but are counted in population (used to allocate federal$ AND determines allotment of legislative seats). The prison boom produced a million new jobs& "improved" the unemployment rate(since inmates are not counted as jobless).More prisons are being privatized & converted into sweat-shops for big corporations who have bought influence w/the White House.Honda pd $2 an hour for part assembly (inmates got $.35). Now who might want 2 million people available for forced labor for $2 an hour? All the while we were sold a bill of goods that we are safer because all these bad people are off the streets. Face it folks-we''re been duped.
