US Military spending now tops 1 TRILLION dollars. That is more than the rest of the world combined!
If we cut that just 30% we'd could; 1) Begin reducing our crippling national debt and the interest upon it that will otherwise be paid by our grandchildrens' kids. 2) Reduce our absurd aggregate tax rate, now higher for the median American household than it was for medieval surfs! 3) Repair our nation's crumbling infrastructure and ensure payment of Social Security, which people were forced to pay into as disability insurance and retirement.
But instead of actually doing anything meaningfuy, instead the corporate ****** in Washington bickered over a few bobbles, less than 4% of the total. They made a big show for the corporate ****** in the media, about how it was going to shut down government, until it didn't, but it made the people think there was still "democracy" when what we really have is more properly an oligarchical soft fascism.
If we cut the $100s of billions in federal government waste in duplicate programs (according a resent GAO report), we could do a few things - we might be able to NOT go so far in the hole each year.
Eric 'The Giant Head' Cantor is right! We must stop our SPENDING on wastrel middle-class Americans (they're gonna die anyway) and ignore the possible huge REVENUE steams of the mountains-o'-cash that corporations and the super-rich are hiding off shore and hoarding. Remember corporations 'live' forever and their wealth only increases. Don't offend them! Don't raise their paltry fees. They are your masters! Obey.
The process is that each sides ideals are represented in their proposals and the details are worked out. But not every detail is subject to compromise.
If the other side would just acknowledge what is and isn't an immovaeable issue, they can work within those bounds.
Republicans that ran on not increasing taxes can not compromise on that. They learned their lesson from the beating the GHW Bush took over his "no new taxes" pledge. A budget that involves new taxes will never get Republican support. The compromise might be in eliminating tax cuts.
Democrats will fight against all cuts but their no touch issues are abortion, union, welfare. I don't know what they would compromise on.
Sorry Cantor, it IS a revenue problem as well. The tax rate as a percentage of GDP is the lowest it's been in 6 decades when we were fighting WW2. Both revenue and spending need to be addressed to get us on the right track. Anyone who doesn't dare tackle both is just scared to upset a certain group instead of looking out for the entire nation and does not deserve to be in office.
Don't you think that we should cut all the fact possible and then see if we need to increase taxes. Or should we increase taxes knowing that we might be supporting waste?
