Small But Growing Movement Seeks To Lengthen Life By Eating Less -- Much Less
- It seems to me that Elisa Zied needs to do her research a little better. Calorie Restriction in humans HAS been shown to eliminate the risk of diabetes in monkeys and humans, almost give those who practice CR a 0 chance of heart disease or stroke. It has shown also to protect from cancer in animal studies, most recently data from rhesus monkeys (who are genetically and physiologically close to humans) show that it significantly reduces cancer. A recent study showed those who were doing CR long term had hearts that functioned 15-20 years younger than age matched ad lib controls. CRers have a very favorable risk profile for not developing any of the chronic diseases that severely affect a persons quality of life.
The western population are increasingly spending their last few decades popping medication for their ills, Calorie Restriction is a logical way forward to live life to the fullest possible.
I''ve been doing CR for almost 3 years now and food tastes better than ever, and it''s an easy way of life.
Life is good, CR gives more of it ;) - Reply to this comment
- I would have called this Bullpucky a year ago, but I had tried every diet I could find and only gained weight. I began a nutrient rich "liquid" fasting diet that gives me every nutrient that I need to be healthy, and it''s only 600 calories a day. It does put you into Ketosis and it is only a weight loss program, but they slowly put you on a restricted calorie diet and teach you how to Link and Balance your Proteins, Fats and Carbs. I am 54 years old - a year ago I honestly thought I wasn''t going to make to 60. Today, I feel like a 35 year old. I have more energy than I actually have ever had - even as a young person. I also now look at food as a tool to stay healthy rather than something to dream about all day long. Say what you want, but we Americans need to figure out that we don''t have to overeat for happiness. Yes - I want to live MY life to the fullest and now I''m doing it.

- You know, we only have one life to live and why waste it on sillyness like this? I''m not talking about letting yourself get obese but this is just plain nuts. Enjoy life and live it to the fullest. People really don''t care about this *** on their deathbed.
