Why did''nt they just offload all the passengers and continue on their way?

As I understand it they have that legal right, I think they made it a crime not to follow the directions of the flight crew. Certainly I''ve read news where people were ejected from their flights or arrested on landing.

P.S. Where was the air marshall then?

but to add insult to injury their luggage went to LaGuardia airport, 12 miles away."

LOL bet that was no accident, it was done on purpose.

I''d be pissed too if Im sitting there an hour and 15 minutes waiting on the dam crew to show up!

I dont know why anyone puts up with all this airline, delay, preci skrewing, eliminating meals/snacks and security BS krap any more.

Good luck with that. They have great lobbyists working for them. They''ll be back for more when the time is right.

Pilots no longer get the respect they so much deserve.

-----------

How about people just quit flying period.

How much food will "respect" buy to put on your families dinner table.

I''m so sick of hearing about all the "poor airlines" and how bad they have it.

A - If the crew was over worked then the Company should have been to blame and was that explained to people? ANd why would the crew take it so much to heart if it wasn''t their fault?
B- A privilege to fly??? IT"S A SERVICE!!! -WOW! It''s a business, they profit! Come on!
C Respect? Sure, but when you show up late and people are missing connections and important meetings etc, they have a right to complain and it ISN''T about a lack of respect, Heck, the Pilot is in the CABIN and away from the flyers ....
D "We are treated like bus drivers" - Um, who deserve the same respect ... what are you trying to say?? And if they were late to do the job they would be FIRED AS WHAT THIS CREW SHOULD HAVE BEEN! I hope they were. That was unprofessional and disgraceful!

"$79 ticket....you get what you pay for!"
Yeah, I''m sure they ALL paid that!

First, I agree with a previous poster, I wonder if the crew just arrived late off another plane?! Because it doesn''t seem likely they''d arbitrarily decide to go in late together as a group!

Second, the passengers were probably very aggressive and beligerent when the crew arrived. But, the crew still should have responded better. They should have apologized, boarded passengers, and made their run!
Any passenger that didn''t settle down, should have been excluded from the flight!

Finally, the way most private airline carriers are being operated these days, it makes me wonder if maybe it isn''t time to nationalize them and make them government run. I doubt they would get much worse---as long as it''s done under the NEXT administration, that is!

This story''s layout really irked me...You play off the United theme, you show the pic of a tail of a United plane, and it is not until hidden in paragraph 2 we find out its American Airlines..
Shame on you! double shame on you...Rotten journalism!

Perhaps the airline could have offered some compensation other than a hotel stay so that the crew wouldn''t have met with so much hostility. They may have not owed it to the passengers but...oh, never mind...the days of good customer service are long gone.

It doesn''t say why the crew was late.

Did the crew arrive from another flight that was delayed?

If the crew was local to Miami, was there perhaps some traffic tie-up that caused them to be late?

Was the crew perhaps not local to Miami but had an overnight Miami layover between flights and their transportation to the airport delayed?

It seems unlikely that they would all be late by the same amount of time unless they arrived together from a common point.

Airlines are severely judged by their on-time records. I doubt that any crew would just jointly decide hey what the hell! Let''s all be an hour late for our flight.

I am flying to Europe in 2 weeks and I dread the flight. They need to make faster airplanes and cut 8 hour flight times down to 4 or less. That is billion dollar advice for Boeing. Feel free to send me a check for the advice Boeing.

Maybe if a few more airlines went bankrupt because people won''t fly on airlines that treat them like an afterthought, it would be good for us all. I''m not surprised that this is American - the first airline to charge for the *first* bag checked.

Honestly I don''t get all the nostalgic people on here about airline travel, after all that era was for the elite and out of reach for many Americans.
Airline travel is now mass public transit and until the industry get that there will always be conflict.

In fact I''m sure a lot of younger Americans equate pilots to the same thing/level as bus drivers and the flight crew as customer/retail service folks they would encounter in the mall or at mcdonalds and they will treat them as such.

If an airlines wants to go back to the old day they can try and come up with a product like cruise ship but even then the crews won''t be based in the us for cost savings.
