- I give Congress around 11 to 13 percent of my income every year. Thank goodness they use it wisely.

- The same people that Congress borrows money from are affectionately known to King George as the "haves, and have mores".

- IQ tests will not cut it. I would need to work almost 6,000 years to earn what the CEO of Lehman made in less than 10. Or put another way, 6,000 families could live a year on what the CEO of Lehman made in 10 years. Do I feel any more or less intelligent than the CEO of Lehman Brothers. No. Do I think I learned anything from my experience? Yes. Do I think our money meisters did? No.

- Remember back when ''paper or plastic'' meant, ''how do you want your groceries bagged'', instead of ''what kind of fiat IOU will you be paying with''?

- Card companies should be limited in how high their interest rates are to percentages above the borrowing rate. If Congress was looking out for "the people", usurious lending rates, penalties and fees would be regulated more closely. Credit card companies are part of the problem and enchance the financial crisis this country is experiencing.

- I caught a shuttle to the airport and a young woman hopped in. She didn''t have $16 in cash so started pulling out her credit cards, calling to check her limit on each one. She was using speakerphone and the first four were denied. She was also dressed to the nines. The fifth credit card worked because she was "only" $32 from her limit. She did not seem embarrassed, but I was embarrassed for her.

- "And loans used to be more straightforward, no gotcha fees and penalities."
Once upon a time, that was true.

- Not really, since it does not apply to Congress and government spending. That is where the real problem lies.

This article has NOTHING to do with Congress. It''s about how it''s going to be harder for morons to get credit--again, a GOOD thing! - Reply to this comment

This is a disgusting, mister. I hope you are kidding, but I fear you are just one of those redneck types who give Americans a bad name. We make over $250K a year also, and yes, we SHOULD pay more taxes than many others! - Reply to this comment

- After learning the hard way, and now being totally shut out of almost all kinds of credit, I can not understand why anyone would want a Credit Card?

You just answered your own question. I think there should be an IQ test requirement before a card is issued. - Reply to this comment

- After learning the hard way, and now being totally shut out of almost all kinds of credit, I can not understand why anyone would want a Credit Card? Why would anyone need a personal line of Credit for a meal, shoes, or a more dire situation - groceries? If everyone had to go into a bank, apply for a loan - even a personal loan - anytime they needed any of the above, everyone would be in better shape now. Loans used to be for the "big ticket items" like houses and cars, but also washer and dryers or other durable goods. And loans used to be more straight forward, no gotcha fees and penalities.
I''ve heard that in the past bankers knew your name, and whether you were good for a loan. Trying talking to a derivative. - Reply to this comment
- I hope I never get another pesky pre-approved credit application in the mail again.
On another note--just because we see beautiful spacious homes on TV or see all the latest technology advertised, it doesn''t mean we can afford them. Advertisers are savvy about making us "need" things we can''t afford and really *don''t* need. - Reply to this comment

Why can''''t we just rise up and send these parasites the way of French nobility.

- Well, geeze people, although I will be sorry to see those advertisements coming ini the mail for new credit cards, I certainly won''t miss them! I guess we will have to do things the good old fashioned way, pay cash for things instead of credit cards!
