- I am a mom to 5 boys ranging in age from 1 year to 14 years of age, and speaking from experience, kids will do some of the dumbest things, no matter how much you watch them or think you have taught them. It''s not a matter or dumb or smart, just making good or bad choices. Even the smartest of kids do the dumbest of things sometime or another. HOWEVER, the dad (Jason) of this little 8 year old girl shouldn''t even consider a lawsuit against the toy company! His daughter and her behavior is HIS responsibility as a parent. And I agree that an eight year old should know how to reason when it comes to "should I eat these toys and pretend they are candy?" That was her choice, and she''s darned lucky she survived the ordeal. Geez, I can hardly get my teenage son to swallow a Tylenol pill when he has a fever, and this little girl swallowed steel balls and magnets? Holy Cow! Does seem quite odd to me, but then what do I know about raising kids anyway?.....Parents needs to start taking RESPONSIBILITY for their kids and making their kids take RESPONSIBILITY for their own actions instead of trying to throw the blam elsewhere. Duh!

- Well my apologies jtatpdx, you sound like you''ve done a fine job with your children. Now if only the idiots like this Lents hick could follow that example it would be a better world.

- My 8 year old son loves Magntix. Has had many for atleast 3 years. When I read this story, I asked him...."Would you ever eat those silver balls from your Magnetix toy?". He looked at me with a twisted look on his face and said, "Are you nuts, Mom?".
Mmmmmm.....and he is a typical...normal 8 year old kid!

I did a poor job of cutting and pasting from other comments, the political commentary was not mine, I was only pasting it to then comment on how someone was trying to turn this story into a political discussion.
I am a parent of three . . . all of whom are responsible, hard working, and productive. All of whom have goals and sense of personal responsibility. Two are grown adults and the final one is entering her senior year. All are honor students. None are into drugs, have ever been arrested, and have minds of their own.
Funny . . . my methods seem to work fine if results count instead of intentions. I agree it is the parents responsibility to teach their kids and this post and many of the comments on it show a few of the problems with todays society. - Reply to this comment
