The "American Dream" has turned into the American Nightmare. You work hard all your life to make money which the government takes its share to keep the social programs rolling for illegals. Then in steps Banks and big business which tries to get top dollar for everything they sell using the justification that they have bills to pay too (and billions of dollars in cash reserve). Well it's not over normal life steps in and you barely have enough to take a vacation at the state park for a week. So what is THE AMERICAN DREAM? Work your whole life to make GREEDY people richer, go into retirement only to have to go back to work because some genius decided that gasoline should be $4 a gallon, which in turn causes global financial crisis wiping out your retirement account.
Its the driving force behind Washington, Wall Street & Big Oil PR push to get The American Suckers to get ourselves deeper in debt to bail them out. In Reality it's Called The American Scheme. Get used to it. It's been around a long time.
It depends on what you consider to be the American dream. The dream to me is to have a decent house with a yard large enough for a family , a couple of kids, a wife that actually WANTS to stay home and raise the children, couple of low mileage cars in the driveway, a steady job with health benefits.
It is your mind that is closed. YOU claimed that poverty was a punishment from god for taking money from the poor or giving money to the rich (though the latter is clearly ridiculous, because everyone is forced to do that all the time). My point is that poverty is only a punishment if you seek riches, so your god wants to punish people by denying them something that it is immoral to want anyway!!!! Therefore it is hypocrisy. The "American Dream" is just that, a dream that is cooked up and constantly refined by the wealthy and their corporations to be just beyond the grasp of most everyone but the very wealthy, and those people don't want to share that status with anybody else, they'd rather get fatter and fatter on the spoils generated when most everybody else spend beyond their means to accumulate more stuff and fall short of attaining the true Dream.
The wealthy and their not-very-bright supporters in the lower income brackets think that it's okay for the elite few to pillage our country at the expense of everything and everyone else. Oh "socialism" is soooo bad, look at all those European countries. Thing is, many European countries have a safety net that prevents their citizens living in the poverty many of our countrymen live in. Yes, some abuse the system. Just like many of the wealthy abuse the hell out of the system here to steal everything they can at every turn. But there are plenty of well-off people in Europe, so it's not the End Of The Rich as we know it despite the Fox watchers here and their hot air. The thing is there aren't a lot of obscenely rich people in those evil European countries, and that of course has the greed heads here worked up into a lather. It's their money, they stole it fair and square, and they are entitled as members of the aristocracy to get more and more of it no matter how many bodies they have to step on to get it.
There is no American Dream anymore. That ended about the time that political correctness got started. We have become a country of wimps. And soon the "dream" will become a World Nightmare.
CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN HAS ALTERED THE AMERICAN DREAM
Under Obama you no longer have to work hard to be successful and realize the American Dream. All you have to do is sit back and let the government take care of you.
Hard work and dedication only means you ahve more money to pay in taxes so the wise and omnipotent Obama can apportion it to the masses. (That's after he gets the millions he needs, of course)
