Comments on: Poll: Early Voters Strongly Prefer Obama
CBS News Survey Shows Democratic Ticket With 19 Point Edge Among Early Voters, 13 Point Lead Among Likely Voters Overall
- Help spread the word! "Flush Obama!" The 2008 presidential election takes place Tuesday, Nov. 4. Americans who love freedom and still believe in The American Dream MUST vote for John McCain. The alternative? Well, it%u2019s equivalent to flushing more than two centuries of greatness down the toilet.

In John Dean%u2019s book Conservatives Without Conscience, Dean sets forth the traits of authoritarian leaders and followers, which have been distilled from a half-century of empirical research, during which thousands of people have voluntarily been interviewed by social scientists. The touch points in these somewhat-overlapping lists of character traits provide a clear picture of the characters of both John McCain and Sarah Palin and their followers.
McCain, especially, fits perfectly as an authoritarian leader. Such leaders possess most, if not all, of these traits:
* dominating
* opposes equality
* desirous of personal power
* amoral
* intimidating and bullying
* faintly hedonistic
* vengeful
* pitiless
* exploitive
* manipulative
* dishonest
* cheats to win
* highly prejudiced (racist, sexist, homophobic)
* mean-spirited
* militant
* nationalistic
* tells others what they want to hear
* takes advantage of %u201Csuckers%u201D
* specializes in creating false images to sell self
* may or may not be religious
* usually politically and economically conservative/Republican
Incidentally, George W. Bush and *** Cheney also can be described by these well-defined and typical traits %u2014 which is why a McCain presidency is so likely to be nearly identical to a Bush presidency.

Clearly, Sarah Palin also has some qualities typical of authoritarian leaders, not to mention almost all of the traits found among authoritarian followers. Specifically, such followers can be described as follows:
%u2022 submissive to authority
%u2022 aggressive on behalf of authority
%u2022 highly conventional in their behavior
%u2022 possessing moderate to little education
%u2022 trusting of untrustworthy authorities
%u2022 prejudiced (particularly against homosexuals and followers of religions other than their own)
%u2022 mean-spirited
%u2022 narrow-minded
%u2022 intolerant
%u2022 bullying
%u2022 zealous
%u2022 dogmatic
%u2022 uncritical toward chosen authority
%u2022 hypocritical
%u2022 inconsistent and contradictory
%u2022 prone to panic easily
%u2022 highly self-righteous
%u2022 moralistic
%u2022 strict disciplinarians
%u2022 severely punitive
%u2022 demanding loyalty and returning it
%u2022 possessing little self-awareness
%u2022 usually politically and economically conservative/Republican

About 25 percent of the adult population in the United States is solidly authoritarian (with that group mostly composed of followers, and a small percentage of potential leaders). It is in these ranks of some 70 million that are the core of the McCain/Palin supporters.
This is the most essential attribute for those of us that go round and round with them on this site. They are people who are so self-righteous, so ill-informed, and so dogmatic that nothing you can say or do will change their minds. - Reply to this comment

"Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain by 11 percentage points in the last USA TODAY/Gallup national poll of likely voters before Election Day." Obama''s favorable rating is 62% -- the highest that any presidential candidate has registered in Gallup''s final pre-election polls going back to 1992. Get out and Vote!- Reply to this comment

- McCain/Palin have ran one of the most divisive, dirty campaigns in recent history. Have you ever heard of anyone attempting to kill a presidential candidate in recent memory? Come on. Take your blinders off and see it for what it is.

- WRMSCVSUV,
I see you mentioned nothing about Fox News as if they were fair and balanced. There was nothing unfair about this election. McCain ran a dirty campaign and what was reported was such. - Reply to this comment
