- THE ALPHABET NETWORKS tell us how bad it's going in Iraq. NPR tells us how bad it's going in Iraq.
Most of the big print media tells us how bad it's going in Iraq.
The generals fighting the war are and more more optimistc given the increased US troop stength and the on going training and restructuring of the Iraqi military.
The professionals fighting the war feel the cause is a just one and while it'ometimes toug sleding, progress is being made.
WHO DO YOU BELIEVE?
It's a choice. I can tell you this much. If I'm running a fever and have an updet stomach I won't be calling MSNBC for a diagnosis! - Reply to this comment

Switching Sides: Inside The Enemy Camp
But then in 2000, well before his arrest, something happened which would make Abas question everything he believed in: a fatwa, a religious edict, was issued by Osama bin Laden.
"It should be understood that killing Americans and Jews anywhere found are the highest act of worship and the highest form of good deeds in the eyes of Allah," Simon quotes bin Laden.
Abas and his fellow commanders were ordered to read the fatwa to their men and make sure they carried it out. The others obeyed, but Abas refused. It was his moment of truth. He firmly believed that jihad was to be fought only on the battlefield in defense of Islam; he had always been taught that the killing of civilians had nothing to do with holy war and that it was forbidden.
The fatwa justified killing non-Muslim civilians everywhere.

- Irismail42 have you been asleep and to believe Faux Nooz tells me a lot. I watched an investigative report on the war and Rumsfeld lost this war right at the beginning by cutting forces and equipment and the equipment he sent was not enough and not sufficient for the type war we are fighting it was on CNN I hope everyone watches it. It is a documentary on how wrong can you be to me. They still haven't gotten the equipment to these boys to do the job effectively. The war is over BRING THEM HOME. I wish we could hang in but the situation is just a loosing game. I wish they had Petreus there at the beginning he might of told Rumsfeld what for and Petreus has really performed miracles but these boys are on there 4th turn and they are tired and worn out.

starleo146 don't get me wrong. I was never a fan this war. As for Fox News,I very seldom watch it. But as I said even their polls show the American people loosing they stomach for this fiasco. And finally, to my comment about support for the war, American's being who they are will always back a winner. No? If most Americans had had the opportunity to watch British TV during the run up to the war there would have been much less enthusiasm for it. - Reply to this comment
- Re: "For Bush to compare..." Amen, Icedude. That's just one more thing that brings to light his delusions of grandeur. Now that his supporters are looking for that last chair for when the music stops, one would think he'd wisen up and resign.

From the London Times
Cyber-bullies who plague internet chat rooms with obscene and insulting comments will be banned under the first national scheme to strip them of their anonymity.
People going online will be forced to provide their real names and social security numbers under a new law that makes internet portals responsible for policing message boards and weblogs.
The law has been introduced in South Korea, and is certain to be closely monitored by other countries where there is concern over online abuse.
The move, which is decried by some as an overly fierce infringement of online liberties, aims to curb the most damaging excesses of so-called %u201Ckeyboard warriors%u201D %u2013 people who concoct ***-scandals, fraud allegations and other libels that chiefly target figures in the public eye

- For Bush to compare his Iraq war to the American Revolution, and by implication, himself to George Washington, is an obscenity.

- I think Americans would have supported the war if there had ever been any evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. The fact is, all of the 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia except one that was from Yemen. Why didn't we attack Saudi Arabia?
Saddam never did have any weapons of mass destruction, just like the UN weapons inspectors who had been in the country for years told them. This war was about oil, devising a way to channel taxpayer money into your buddies companies with unbid government contracts, and pure and simple greed. Anyone who has a brain and can't see that our great nation is being run by a cartel, the likes the world has never seen before, needs to seek a brain transplant. - Reply to this comment

Bush: The Iraq war is what the Founding Fathers would have done. (Lars008... did Jefferson send a huge army to liberate the people in the Barbary Pirates' North Africa, and give them democracy ?)
"We remember the spirit of liberty that led men from 13 different colonies to gather in Philadelphia and pen the Declaration of Independence," said Bush, who plans to spend Independence Day with the West Virginia Air National Guard in Martinsburg, W.Va.
"Today, a new generation of Americans has stepped forward and volunteered to defend the ideals of our nation's founding. They've helped bring freedom to the Iraqi people," he said. "They've helped make Americans more secure."

- CBS (Corrupt Broadcasting Station) you have No Creditablity "left" when it comes to either Polls or News.
What a liberal left-wing political organization you've become.
FYI to the American public Rick Kaplan, head of CBS News, is personal friends of Bill and Hillary Clinton, sleeping not once but twice at the White House. The last time in April 2000.
So much for a "free and independent press"
CBS will do anything to "prop" up their close pals the Democrats...........Really sad - Reply to this comment
- It's sad and stupid to wait any longer to pull the plug on this misadventure.A few huge egos with a wiff of religion mixed in will not allow the admission that this is a terrible mistake. If they or their children were walking the streets of Baghdad it might be different. Oh well.

Pie on the Sky: An empty wish or promise. This expression was first recorded in 1911 in a rallying song of a union, the International Workers of the World (or "Wobblies"): "Work and pray, live on hay, you'll get pie in the sky when you die." [American Heritage Dictionary]

- When confronted with the latest CBS polls regarding the war in Iraq, the Sith Lord, Emperor Bush, declared that he found the findings by CBS to be flawed and expressed them as being "irrelevant". Instead, he placed his trust in the comments made by Ann Coulter and other supporters who declared Emperor Bush as being the best CinC since FDR, that the war in Iraq was being run "brillantly", that the "surge" was a masterful manuevor, and victory was only a matter of weeks away!
Naturally, after making these comments, Ms Coulter promptly forgot everything she said and moved on to renewd attacks against John Edwards, claiming Edwards should save the tax payers money on $700 haircuts, have his head shaved bald and appear opposite Bruce Willis in the next "Die Hard" movie.

- No doubt, this war has been mis-managed from its very inception. I will be the very first to say we should destroy any, and all, enemies of the United States who have brought great harm to us.
We must understand that Gen. Shinseki, former, Army Chief of Staff, informed Congress that we will need at least 400k servicemembers to meet our objective, maintain stability and protect our troops. He was rebuked, discredited and even fired by an arrogant Sec. of Defense (Rumsfeld). Rumsfeld, with the urging of VP Cheney, dispatched a, now disgraced, Asst. Sec of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz (of recent World Bank fame) to Capitol Hill to discredit Shinseki. The latter, in a then Republican Control Senate was easily accomplished. Rumsfeld, by the way, no military service, ruled that the mission can be accomplished with 200k troops all dissenters was put out to pasture. What a disaster, please remember this statement, "you got war with the equipment you have", Don Rumsfeld. Then Sec. of the Army, Mike White tried to explain to Rumsfeld, he, too, was fired! So you see, these buffoons Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, all draft dodgers, might I had, refused to listen. That brings us to the blood soaking quagmire we are in today, Iraq. - Reply to this comment

No one, least of all Bush, has ever been able to define it except in Pie-in-the-Sky terms that insult the intelligence of the audience. That, of course, is the biggest reason he fears deadlines: he knows that neither he nor the Iraqi government can ever meet them.
Henry Kissinger tried to define "victory in Iraq" in realistic terms, then declared it to be impossible:
"If you mean by "military victory" an Iraqi government that can be established and whose writ runs across the whole country, that gets the civil war under control and sectarian violence under control in a time period that the political processes of the democracies will support, I don't believe that is possible."
