Comments on: Poll: Americans Split On Troop 'Surge'
55% In CBS Survey Don't Think Increased Troop Levels Will Help Stabilize Baghdad
- A long time ago, kings who wanted to wage wars had lead the charge or the people wouldn't fight. Part of the job of the king was to actually lead the troops into battle.
If world leaders still were required to lead the charge into battle, I wonder how many wars we would fight? The greatest innovation of modern warfare is the idea that those who declare wars don't have to fight wars. - Reply to this comment

And considering you don't even know the duration of the Viet Nam war, yet presuppose to lecture others on the matter, I wouldn't be using the word "idiot" if I were you.
From you it sounds rather hypocritical. - Reply to this comment

You ignorance is showing, Sir. I was in Viet Nam and it went on through 1973. And I'll comment about what I please. - Reply to this comment
- I agree, exusmcsgt, the poll results shown here are confusing at best. Only 48% oppose a troop surge, but 59% favor withdrawing some or all the troops immediately?

- i was specifixcally speaking about 2 men as presidents from Texas, who have acted the same in an unpopular war 40 years apart. "Lets send some more boys over there to take care of things." If you did not know what happened from 64-68 in Vietnam then dont respond to my original comments about Texans in the white house.

Unfortunately, Texas doesn't have the market on idiots cornered. Hillary is from Illinois and Lieberman is from Massachusettes and who knows where Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz come from. - Reply to this comment
- there is about as much interest in a poll as there is in the issues themselves. I never thought that this country would ever allow anyone to bring another Vietnam to our homes each week. This has got to be the most ridiculous man in Washington and his generals as the idiots that failed in the 60s and 70s. and we have to listen to him wed night trying to justify himself? Can we all agree never elect another idiot from Texas? Bush and Johnson.

My point was how can 28% think it's going well if only 3% approve of the strategy. It seems utterly incongruous regardless of phrasing.
Otherwise 25% (who don't approve of the strategy) are saying "it's going well even though our strategy sucks". What? - Reply to this comment
- Bu$h had FOUR YEARS to win his invasion, and did not!
Get those troops out, and take Dubya to task for his failures.
Of course, if you look at the new US embassy, you may get the idea we were never leaving Iraq.... - Reply to this comment
- This is the most pittful and rediculous bunch of Incompetent Leaders in the history of the World!! LOL Here we are after 4 years and our Military can not control a country not much bigger than the State of Ohio? Yet the Fascist Neocon's keep on trying to tell everyone that it can work. LOL Now just how stupid do you have to be, when confronted with nothing but absolute and complete failure, to be unable to figure out that those leading haven't an idea ONE where the hell they are going. LOL This is nothing more that the same tired losers who gave us leaders like Herbert Hoover and Richard Nixon, attempting to give away even more American Tax Money to their fellow Robber Baron's. These creatures have never cared about this nation and their history is evidence enought of that fact for anyone.

- we need the surge of troops to get our men out sooner simple why really 1 more troops mean more support so less death 2 less death means not as many things to report on for news groups as well as better spport of Iraqy training operations.

- What should be done in Iraq instead of a surge is to re-deploy US Troops ... some to Kurdistan and others to Kuwait, Jordan or even Afghanistan and wait it out until the Civil War is over..it will take about 9 years. .. In a Civil War one must take sides... but in Iraq both sides are the enemy... ****** and Iran hate the Americans... Sunnis (Bathists , Al-Khaida and the Syrians ) also hate the Americans so we can't win...as they say in Iraq... even the trees, the dogs, cats and rocks hate you. The trick is to sit it out and watch the game just like the super bowl. Or why don't we ask our welfare recipients (Israel) to do dirty work for us for a change.

- I am opposed to the draft, but you can see it coming. The lesson learned from Iraq is not that war is useless; rather, our government has figured out they need a bigger military to prosecute their goals.
Sure, the American public is cold to the draft right now. That is why the quiet drumbeat is being ramped up. A steadily increasing stream of propaganda is appearing--including this article and Charles Rangel's proposal of renewing the draft. Over time, a well orchestrated campaign is going massage public acceptance.
Enjoy your sons and daughters while you have them. Soon you may be visiting their graves. The government has plenty of wars on the drawing board. Syria, Iran, North Korea--there are even people writing books arguing that war with China is inevitable! Laugh at me today, because you will cry with me tomorrow. - Reply to this comment
- Bush is an idiot. Republicans are idiots. If it hadnt been for the NeoNazi's redrawing of congressional districts there would have been about 2 Republicans left in Congress.

- 54% of Republicans think the war is going well. How the hell can anybody think the war is going well?? By any standard of progress Iraq is a failure. The increasing violence, increasing body count, failure to reconstruct any infrastructure, lower levels of gas, electricity, no water in some places.
This is their idea of going well?? This is the reason I have no respect for Republicans. They have the stupidest ideas of what is success in Iraq. I heard this morning the the diplomat to Afganistan say that "great progress" has been made, and the Taliban is back in full force. Where is the progress??
Are they so wed to their party that they cannot see the truth when it comes home in body bag after body bag? Billion after billion. Violence going up and up.
That is progress? There is no way I want anyone who cannot look at unvarnished truth running the govn. Look at where we are now because of it. - Reply to this comment
- Bush is acting for the history books...trying desparately not to appear the fool. I wonder how many Americans are going to have to die while he tries to save face!

- grumpas, pretty funny.
the difference between 3% and 28% values could be simply explained by the questions that people were asked. Although an overwhelming majority people think that a change in "strategy" would be good, a different percent of people think that we are accomplishing some degree of our goals.
For example, if someone feels that avoiding terror acts on US soil is sufficient grounds for the cost we are paying overseas, then they might answer the questions this way. - Reply to this comment
- The only way I will go for a troop surge is if George and his administration leads them personally!
