Guns are realy dumb but I certainly agree with the 2nd amendment right and think it should be based on what the founding fathers were takingham about. A good old single shot black powder pistol or long rifle. Unfortunately they did not have the foresight to know what kind of fools would be allowed to purchase semi-automatic mass killing hand guns and assault rifles. I am under no illusion that the gun culture in this country will ever submit to even a reasonable form of regulation. They would rather see any moron who can afford a deadly weapon have it.

I have had a gun pointed to the back of my head during a robbery by two thugs. It's not a pleasant feeling and unless I had gotten out of my car with a weapon drawn I probably still wouldn't have had a chance. So the thugs got $7 and my wallet and I had to risk getting my head blown off. It's a pitiful situation with no good solution.

I don't blame the guns, I do blame the people and the people who support the culture of guns beyond hunting and warfare. Guns are dumb. Only as smart or idiotic as the person carrying it. One idiot can kill dozens of innocents as we've just observed. Guns are dumb.

-God puts the baby in the woman's body If the woman did not want a baby then I guess she should be more responsible than to lie down and have ***

Oops .. I thought God only did that once and I think they woman's name was Mary. After that he kinda got out of the baby making business or maybe there is something to the DaVinci code rumors.

Second .. *** for babies only .. how cromagnum of you. Do you still grunt and walk bent over? This is what most freedom loving American's fear the most from the Christian Taliban .. your interpretation of gospel is full of your personal biases, bigotry, intolerance, and ignorance. You fit the Bushiite Republican profile perfectly.

The fetus doesn't have a right to be in the woman's body, people, the woman gives it permission to be inside her. And the woman can revoke that permission any time she pleases. Nobody should be forced to have something, or somebody (if you really want to think of it as a person) inhabit their bodies if they don't want to. That is a basic right to one's body, what part of it don't you understand?

In addition the first woman that is forced to give birth by the new restrictions the "godly" hypocrits will now impose (especially in the bigotted South) should find a good lawyer and sue the state to force them to help raise the child in the manner they themselves would want to be raised. If they force the birth - then they should support the child .. this means a good house, in a good neighborhood, excellent schools, nourishing food, good health care, etc. Essentially the state should be forced to raise this child in a middle class environment otherwise their pro-life attitude is a sham - they are more a pro-fetus, anti-woman bigot.

After reading more from highly trained, reputable doctors I am more inclined to state that this decision by the Supreme Court was not only idiotic but dangerous. The first time a woman dies because this procedure is no longer able to be performed, will the 5 Supreme Court Justices stand up and take responsibility for her death? Because they have no medical knowledge and made this from their narrow political and religious views could they be held from Negligent Homicide as they purposely caused her death. In reality these 5 Supreme Court Justices actually murdered the woman!

Concerning gun control, I agree that we need to loosen the civil rights restrictions which prevented Chou's court ordered phsychiatric counseling from appearing on the FBI's database for authorizing handgun purchases. He was judged by professionals to be a risk to himself and others. That should have prevented him from obtaining a gun.
I also believe that law abiding citizens who have successfully completed firearms training and received their carry/conceal licence, should be allowed to carry a handgun for protection against individuals wishing to do them harm. This could have saved many lives in the recent VT shootings. Chou knew he'd have no resistance from anyone of the poor victims. He was the deranged person with a weapon in a gun free zone. He had no fear of someone firing back at him.

How do you know a fetus is not a person.
Posted by emhunt99 at 05:57 PM : Apr 19, 2007

The burden of proof is on you. You give me scientific evidence the fetus is a person. In fact, give me a definition of "person" to start with.

The fetus is not a person, in fact we don't give it juridic status. If a woman has a miscarriage, we don't prosecute her to decide if anything she did may have caused the death of a person. In fact many women have miscarriages without even knowing they were pregnant in the first place. If nature itself arranged for pregnancies to end, why are we finding something wrong with the whole idea?
An embryo is a collection of undistinguished cells that is no more a person than any other collection of cells, like for example, a tumor. Tumor cells have human DNA and replicate, but are not a person.
What differentiates a person from other living things like plants, bacteria, bugs, etc is the mind. A fetus has no mind because its nerve cells are not wired together. A fetus has no thoughts, no personality, nothing that distinguishes it as a person. If you don't have a problem with the killing of animals because they are mindless you shouldn't have a problem with the killing of a fetus for the same exact reason.
The fact that a fetus has the potential to become a person doesn't mean it IS a person. When I buy a lottery ticket, I have the potential of being a multi-millionaire, but that doesn't make me one.

The key word in your diatribe is "civilised"... if we are so civilised, why do we have guns in the first place??? A truly "civilised" society has no need for guns.

Tell that to the next criminal that breaks into your house, strips you of all your possessions, rapes your wife, and beats you within an inch of your life.
We need guns because not everybody, unfortunately, in our civilized society acts in a civilized manner. The criminals themselves admit that if they have to choose between robbing a house with guns and one without, they'll go for the one that won't get them shot in the head. Criminals LOVE gun control laws, it makes their business easier.

Are inferring that Hitler did not ban all firearms purchases and ownership by Jews and then confiscate their firearms?

Why would he do that?

"In being confronted by the reality that government cannot and will not guarantee my personal safety, I am infinitely thankful, both as a woman and an American, that the Bill of Rights still guarantees my right to defend myself with a gun. Any true feminist must support this position. Any woman who claims to be a feminist, but who supports disarmament of law-abiding citizens is simply a dangerous hypocrite."
--Katherine von Tour, "My Transformation From Anti-Gun Feminist To Armed Feminist"

"We live in a world where more and more women are unaccompanied at odd hours, or they are vulnerable in dangerous places %u2014 a world where restraining orders are often ineffective and the police cannot be counted upon to arrive in time, if at all. In such a world, women must be able to protect themselves. In terms of both deterrence and lethal force, guns are among the most effective tools available for self-defense."
--Mary Zeiss Stange, "Guns, like abortion, are a matter of choice"

Hitler also was a vegetarian, believed in building the world's first super highways, and a strong national and agressive military. Any minds changed about driving on freeways. People that use Hitler as an example for what they do and don't support are truly grasping at the weakest straw n the bunch.

Gun's and Abortion shouldn't even be issues in politic's! Except the Republican's have made both an issue for the last 40 or more years! They get a lot of votes they wouldn't normally get by trying to scare people there guns are going to be taken away! Every election year it comes around just like clockwork with them. I bought into it in the 70's. That's why I voted for Nixon the first time. The Religious Right took over the Republican's in the 80's with Ronald Reagan and made abortion an big issue. Because it was one of their pet issues and he sold the country to them for a few votes! But, a lot of us quit voting Republican in the 80's! We are more terrified of the Religous Nuts who are currently running the country! Given to much power they could resemble the Taliban!

Here is an example of how screwed up US is on weapons: Program on PBS radio discussing VT shootings received a call from a man whose concern wasn't about the people involved or affected by the violence, rather he stated the old phrase that "people kill people, not guns", and was concerned that this would have an impact on his ability to access weapons. What an idiot and what an example of the total stupidity that exists in this country (Duh...they elected bush) to place violence, and the tools of it, above the tragedy being discusssed. It was even more infuriating that the program host didn't embarass the hell out of him by direct challenge to this inane statement.

God wants us all to have guns on our hips, because that will make America safer. NRA, giddyup yah hairy old beast. Guns are fine for hunters, if that's what you need to do.
But to say that America is less safe because there aren't enough guns shows us all a vision that would get us to where Jim Jones got everyone in Jonestown.
America has 20 times as many murders by guns than Japan. Can you guess why? Access. And the access our Korean lunatic had at the pawn shop? Just ask the NRA. God wants us all to have guns. Let's load up all the students in every college; surely that wouldn't open the door to additional problems with some hormonally imbalanced students under pressure the week before finals.

Why don't you just move to whichever European country you feel is more "enlightened" than us then. And while we're on the subject .....just what conspiracy are you talkig about? The one where the economy has been steadily growing for the last 5-6 years, the one where inflation has been at a low rate for at least that amount of time. Is it the conspiracy of not having any terrorist attacks on this country since 9/11 which by the way had Bill Clintons name on it more than anything else as he was in office as Bin Laden was beginning to appear on the radar screen (remember the USS COLE and the cruise missles that he launched to take the attention away from the fact that he lied about getting a ******* from a girl as old as his daughter?) OR is it the conspiracy of catching about 90% of the FBI's most wanted terror suspects in the last few years. Go cry somewhere else you pu$$y
