Dick Meyer: Thoughts On Building Up And Tearing Down Celebrities
- I am a 48 year old black women and I don't think Imus should have been fired. I do not like what was stated by him. But I believe he has a right to his opinion. Where will this all end. We allow rap artist to degrade our young women all day and no one says a word or does a thing about it. People say things it does not have to be exploited. The Media is the one's that go to far. They played his clip over and over. By firing this man you take away his rights. I don't really care by what means he uses to convey them. YOU ARE WRONG FOR THE FIRING.

- I agree what he said was wrong but to say it was racial is not acurate are there not other nationalities besides afercain american on the team. it was sexast. my 7 yr olds best friend is afercan american yet there first fight the other little girl was calling my daughter a cracker witch went right over my daughters head for we do not have that in my home. it is mostly afercain amercan hip hop that uses the dreaded "N" word.so if Sharpoton Roker and Jaackson want to go after some one start withe all the rappers out there. fireing him was why to far to go. If Imus were of any other nationality would this have been brought up. I think not!!!! i also noticed that the pic you used only showed the african american players is this your way of making it more racial than what imus said. this sorly disapoints me in this station and Rev.Jaakson And Sharpton whom to this point i had the greates respect.

- Les Moonves must be fired. Only months ago CBS management negotiated a 5 year contract extension with Imus. CBS had full knowledge of the show%u2019s content and history %u2013 yet negotiated another in a long series of big money contracts for Imus. I believe that if the CBS decision to fire Imus was justified, then Viacom shareholders and their BOD should demand that CBS CEO Les Moonves be fired. Moonves gambled that this would continue to work for CBS for another 5 years and re-signed Imus and the crew with full knowledge of the risks. Moonves lost his gamble, he knew what was going on, and if Imus must go, he should go too.
Any other result is hypocrisy. - Reply to this comment
- I agree that what he said was wrong and he should lose his job. The thing is, what he said, he learned from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton's followers. Why don't they ever march around outside the record or magazine companies? That's where this starts. They need to look at themselves. Stay in your church, teach your own people. Stop showing up everywhere, including Duke University, and making fools of yourselves.

- Al Sharpton is not acting like a reverend when he starts attacking sinners on television and bad mouthing them. Why is he given so much credibility when he is not acting like a Christian? If he were a true man of the cloth, he would be trying to promote unity and understanding with regard to the Imus tirade which happened. He appears to be just another pot calling the kettle black, and the media lets him get away with it. Why is he not under fire for posing as some preacher-wannabe when he is just an instigator of hate and prejudice against Caucasians when they sin on the public airwaves?
I want to know why Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not under fire for the lies they are perpetrating that they are so *** righteous. Sharpton is about as righteous as George W. Bush. Did he offer to pray with Imus to have God forgive his sins? Did he offer scripture to help Imus heal his demons? Hell no, the *** proceeded to use Imus's sin to promote his own anti-unity agenda. Just like Bush, he is a divider, not a uniter. - Reply to this comment
- We had an interesting discussion with co-workers today which included men and women of many races and nationalities. Not 1 person agreed with the firing of Dom Imus while it was unanimous that his comments were wrong and hurtful. Several more people said they will NO longer listen to CBS in taking the position they did. Some said his suspension should have been longer and that may well have been a fitting punishment.
If Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson REALLY want to make a difference, let them start with the Hip Hop culture which certainly needs to change in their condescending approach.
The bitterness, sadness, rage, degradtion has got to stop. And it's got to stop starting with Sharpton and Jackson. - Reply to this comment
- Blacks are creating prejudice against themselves. They just won't GET OVER IT. Hip Hop music introduced the N word back into society after it'd been irradicated, they've turned their women into disgusting ****** (watch the videos), and they continue to whine about economic inequality. They refuse to honor their true leaders and instead choose to follow oppressors like Sharpton and Jackson.
