Schieffer: Screaming On The Right And The Left Has Drowned Out What The Center Wants
- Either Schieffer cherry-picks his information to fit his biases or he's a sameless liar.
For instance, in his story on the recently failed immigration bill he cites a "N.Y. Times" poll which he claims supports the thrust of the bill, but according to an essay by Carol Liebau published on "RealClearPolitics" today, 11 June 2007, "A New York Times/CBS poll...found that 69% of Americans believe that illegal immigrants should be prosecuted and deported; 82%...said the federal government should be working harder to "keep illegal immigrants from crossing into this country..."
Perhaps Schieffer reads a different edition of the "New York Times" or a different set of polls in the paper than does Liebau, do you think?
And the MSM appears to be puzzled by its rapidly declining circulation and viewing figures, which largely are a reflection of the public's mounting distrust in the integrity and honesty of the Leftist & counter-cultural propaganda fed to us which the MSM arrogantly and dishonestly chooses to call the news. - Reply to this comment
- Wrong, Schieffer. Most Americans are opposed to this bill.
You are as far removed from the electorate as our pols in DC are.

Enforce the laws we have! If you simply MUST write new laws, I fully support "Crocodile Tears" Harry Reid's 1993 immigration bill!
August 5, 1993
The Office of Sen. Harry Reid issued the following:
In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress.
Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country.
Reid's bill, the Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993, overhauls the nation's immigration laws and calls for a massive scale-down of immigrants allowed into the country from approximately 800,000 to 300,000.

- My goodness, Mr. Schieffer! This bill was geared to benefit special interests, i.e. the Chamber of Commerce, La Raza, and immigration lawyers.
It would not have slowed down the huge migration flooding this country.
I have news for you. The grassroots effort to resist this madness is not 'far-right' or 'far left'. It is the American citizenry.
The reason you are getting so many responses is that we are fed up with the propaganda coming from the mainstream 'news'. - Reply to this comment
- BS:
You are wrong. Americans want the following:
1. The fence;
2. English as the first language;
3. Deportation of all illegals and a revamp of the pathetic immigration system.
That is it. Keep it simple stupid. - Reply to this comment
- The majority do NOT want to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Get the story straight. Oh. Wait. This is a socialist mouthpiece. I forgot.

- Hello? The MAJORITY of Americans do NOT want to grant amnesty to ILLEGAL immigrants.
Once again, you are lost in space in the Leftinistra cage of mediocrity. - Reply to this comment
- You elitists just aren't listening are you? MIDDLE AMERICA doesn't want this La Raza-drafted surrender-to-Mexico "immigration" bill. No Amnesty! I'm afraid the government will find out just how angry Americans are with this betrayal of a bill and there just might be open violence. This is an invasion and the government is selling us out!

- I can understand the right wing hatred of what they call "amnesty". If a bunch of Americans decided to illegally go to Mexico and hide from the government, would we actually expect them to say "that is all right that you broke our laws...stay..and by the way, we will make you citizens!" I don't think so.

- Yes I had heard of the North American Union and if that goes it will be the end of the USA and we will be forced into a Europe government model.
It is clear that whether you are Democrat or Republican both sides have special interests paying them to make it happen. This Amnesty Bill is just one part of it and more is coming. Look at all the Presidential candidates for who they are getting money from, what they vote for, and it will make it clear. Clinton, McCain, and others are getting the special interest payoffs.
We may think that the parties are separate on the issues but in reality for the most part they are similar. With the Republicans controlling all branches of Government there was little difference in spending and social programs, then when the Democrats controlled.
Term limits and limiting government is the only real way we can survive. As we keep going the government increases (local, state, and federal) and at some point over takes our society.
ONE QUESTION for Bob Schieffer and CBS that I would like answered: DO YOU READ THESE AND IF YOU DO WHY NOT ADD COMMENTS INTO THE BLOG? - Reply to this comment
