Schieffer: Screaming On The Right And The Left Has Drowned Out What The Center Wants
- Bob - You're wrong!!! Americans do not want this immigration bill. It is a piece of legislation written to pander to the special interest groups on the far left and the check pant Republicans of big business on the right. Both groups have willingly sold out all American citizens for votes or money. Americans overwhelmingly want the laws on the books enforced. There need not be any roundups or mass deportations, simply fine and jail those responsible for hiring the undocumented workers and turn down the faucet on entitlement programs. The problem is solved in a decent and humane manner and then the debate on immigration can really begin.

- The headline -- "Americans Want The Immigration Bill" -- is misleading.
Americans do not want THE immigration bill proposed in Congress. Yes, we want immigration reform; but not the disgraceful sham being thrown around in Washington.
CBS News knows that. But apparently they would rather mislead than inform.
Shame on them! - Reply to this comment
- When pollsters ask questions with limited options, they tend to get what they want; a self-supporting result.
The truth is, when Rasmussen, Opinion Dynamics or whomever gives a broad range of options INCLUDING enforcement first, people pick that overwhelmingly and in fact they prefer 58% to 30% to send illegal aliens home.
We don't WANT this bill. The last thing any of us need is another monolithic programme with no hope of enforcement that our security depends on; DHS is bad enough!
No, what we want are people who obey the law, just like we do every day, whether it is to our convenience or not. We want one rule for EVERYONE, whether it concerns immigration, taxes, it doesn't matter. We don't want a law that allows molesters to stay because of a loophole (as the bill allows); we don't want legal immigrants screened waiting outside the US while illegal aliens don't have to leave the country never mind get a health exam.
We don't want people who come here illegally, use stolen IDs, drive without insurance and use a stolen Social Security number to get legality. They should be facing 5 - 10, not offered a shot at citizenship.
We want a fence, we want enforcement. Harris County,Texas has spent over 160 million to satisfy the medical bills of illegal aliens... that's ONE COUNTY. We are tired of being told we're lazy, shiftless and bigots, when we're hardworking, tolerant and kind.
We think the bill is unfair and we don't want it, period. - Reply to this comment
- As most of the posts suggest, the liberal mainstream media is out of touch with the good folks of this country. You just don't get it.

- Baloney. Most of America does not want "the bill". Americans would like a bill that did not reward illegals, did not retain criminals, and would enforce the border to reign in terrorists, drugs, and others.

- It looks like Congress is going to refuse to even recognize the latent impact of the Welfare State on Illegal Immigration, and simultaneously be bridled by the unseen but apparently highly effective lobby effort from the business sector to stop holding the employer totally accountable.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.
The clowns on the Left are protecting the able-bodied wagon riders. The Jokers on the Right are protecting Big Biz. Both buy into the premise that the Welfare State cannot be reined in, in any manner. The Unions have now realized they are not represented by the Libs. The vast Silent Majority that produces the wealth for taxation now realizes there is no counterbalance to loose fiscal policies. Watching the current crop of national politicians bluster and pontificate is like watching a cheaply made cartoon of old time politics. It's not even well done.
And the States are flush with cash.
Answer: The deficit-spending Fed must special levy the states for their excess revenues.

- Bob Schieffer is dead wrong. Americans DO NOT want an immigration bill. We want the laws that already are on the books enforced!
We want a fence, a secure border and Employers punished for hiring illegal aliens. And we want the people that have broken our immigration law to return to their home countries.
We want people to come here on a very temporary basis TO WORK when the need arises. We don't want their children. We don't want their Aunts and Uncles. We don't want their spouses. If they want to work then only they can come to work here - not their families. Create a mass transit system to the border or whatever. But that's it!
If people from other countries want to become Americans let them go through the process that is in place.

- Schieffer, another open borders propagandist, ias lying. The American people do not support the Bush/McCain/Kennedy amnesty. Only suicidally depressed self-haters would support this monstrosity. Invade Mexico and depose the rich ruling families. Then the poor peasants there might have a chance, but as long our elites provide the corrupt Mexican elites with this easy way out of their problem, we will continue our relenless march toward third world status.

- Americans want our Nation%u2019s immigration process to work. It is insulting when our public servants ignore their duty and when journalists confound the issue. What is the sense of Homeland Security and the INS when they purposefully look the other way while millions of people overstay their visas and illegally cross our borders? How can we win the %u201Cwar on drugs%u201D or the %u201Cwar on terror%u201D if we can%u2019t stop millions of people from entering or staying here illegally?
Bob may know what Bob wants, but he doesn%u2019t know what Americans want. What Americans want is:
* security from gang members, criminals, drugs and terrorists.
* to pay just as much in taxes as absolutely necessary, and not to pay for those who are here illegally.
* construction, factory, and agricultural jobs.
* aliens who have complied with our laws and have been waiting in line the longest, to come first.
* their elected officials to put American first - protect our citizens, secure our Nation%u2019s sovereignty, and to do their jobs.
* an honest debate, without dropping the word %u201Cillegal%u201D, using low estimates, and redefining %u201Camnesty%u201D.
If the government could and would control immigration, people would be willing to discuss amnesty. Build the wall, police the borders, and arrest anyone who enters the country illegally %u2013 only then can we have a discussions regarding temporary workers, or legalization. - Reply to this comment
- Bob is obviously on la la land. I do not know of a single person that was for this bill.
This is the most inane bill I have ever seen. Their %u201Cpromises%u201D of tougher enforcement ring hollow! You know they will not happen!
Let me get this straight??? Enforcing the law is "morally repellent"?? There are laws on the books; they have chosen to ignore them, as has Bob. Now they want to put even more complicated laws on the books and we are to expect them to enforce those? You and I know they won't and that this is truly amnesty!
1) They are here illegally and should be held accountable
2) Give them 6 months to self deport (they got here they can leave)
3) If they do not self deport there should be Proactive Enforcement and deportation
4) After the 6 months, if they are then found in the US they will be considered felons, will be deported, and can NEVER become citizens
5) No anchor babies, this must be eliminated
6) Fine business 10,000 for each case of employing an illegal alien
7) No sanctuary cities, towns, churches etc. Any one giving sanctuary receives NO federal funding for ANYTHING, churches etc would lose their tax exempt status
8) No instate tuition for illegals or any other state or federal benefits!
9) Secure the borders at all or any cost!
10) English should be the "official language"
It's time to fix the problem! This bill will only make it worse! Stop the political pandering! And the vote buying! Stop the Madness! FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!!! - Reply to this comment
