- The White House "I can't remember" routine reminds me of the excuses put forth by very young children when confronted with a misdeed. But, then, what do we expect from the juvenile deliquents pretending to run our government? To borrow a phrase: "The key to wisdom is this -- constant and frequent questioning ... for by doubting we are led to question and by questioning we arrive at the truth." El Presidente and his cohorts have forgotten Exodus 20:16; unfortunately lying has become second nature to our "born again" [cough, cough] (Lord, forgive me for saying so) "leaders".

- This administration makes Orwell look like a true prophet. When the pigs would change the commandments or rewrite history or seek to brainwash the animals with some other lie, they would send Squealer out to inform them. The propagandist would spin the tale and then Orwell would end the passage with his famous line: "The animals remembered, or thought they remembered..." The key for the Rovian liars of today? The fact that a significant number of Americans truly do not know, and thus cannot remember. The administration plays upon the fact that a large number of their supporters do not know basic information, and many more have been filled with lies, innuendo, and misinformation by the like of Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Brit Hume, etc. When some learned soul does produce the truth they immediately get branded as left-wing wackos or conspiracy nuts. Quite a hole we've dug ourselves with this administration: a war based on lies that has virtually destroyed our international reputation, an economy tilted dangerously towards the entrenched corporate elites, and a people cowed into submission by the steady humm of TV & radio noise pollution. We can only get ourselves out by ceasing the dig, and continuing to try to educate each other about the reality and truths long ignored by the Bush machine.

- "...stinks to high heaven..." Sort of like the dead skunk in the middle of the road. I didn't think this Bush "administration" would last thru one term, and, it shouldn't have. But the wheels of democracy turn slowly. It would be qa very interesting wind-up if Bush and Cheney were sheet-canned for the final year or so. And why the helll not?

- YOU GO BOB!! It's about time we atart calling a spade a spade.
As it turns out this country has some unlikely heros, such as the 'Dixie Chicks'. They spoke out and were punished, but did not relent. They have been vindicated as will all those who are not afraid to say the things that need to be said.
So, hang in there Bob Schieffer. You will no doubt feel some backlash, but the sun is going to shine. - Reply to this comment
