mjv2944: Excellent post. Unfortunately globalization seems to be a tidal wave of change that we can't stop.

Globalization drives countries to specialize in certain products. The US specializes in technology, China specializes in cheap mass-produced products, etc.

I'm afraid that the only way we will get our middle-class back is to focus on educating our children so that they can get the highly-specialized technology jobs that will dominate the future.

Don't get me wrong - I don't like it, but I think that moving our future workforce in a direction that matches the global economy is our only chance...

Auto makers are chopping thousands of jobs, then it goes down to their suppliers and on and on, now they are worrying about sell cars, who the hell can afford one. We need middle class America back. To hell with all this out sourcing, its killing us. We are fast approaching a two class system, greedy and needy and nothing in betweeen

Left, Right, Libertarian, up-down, no matter how you cut it this economy is roaring. I for one am a convert. Can you imagine the suffering we would have all endured (most of us anyway) had we sunk deeper into recession or even a depression.

perception5: It's great that the economy is doing OK, but it should be, and its not the media's job to report on things that are moving along as they should. A good economy is simply not a huge story!

Here's some headlines I think you'll like...

"Hundreds of Cars in Bagdad Didn't Explode Today."

"Former Rep. Foley Finally Getting A Much Needed Rest."

"President Bush's Pole Numbers Soar To Almost 38%."

"North Korea's Nuclear Arsenal Reduced By One Bomb."

B1tching about the main-stream media... GIVE ME A BREAK! If things aren't going your way, too bad. You've been in charge for 6 years, so you can only blame yourselves!

It is quite simple. The rich are doing better and the middle class is getting squeezed. Which group has thew greater number of people?

nikosk1: The problem is that the people who earn minimum wage feel disenfranchised and generally don't vote. That is a terrible shame, because it drives our politicians to server the needs of the upper and upper-middle classes.
