Get real. The Berlin wall divided a nation and was intended to keep people from leaving communist Berlin.

El Presidente Fox thinks that we should have open borders, much like in the European Union, where people are free to come and go. Problem is, too many would come, none would go. Fox is a hypocrit; a U.S. citizen can not go past Ensenada without a tourist card, yet he's willing to send millions of poor Mexicans here to work without a green card? Give me a break.

One option to the fence is legislation to severly punish employers who hire illegal aliens. However, the power of Corporate America will never allow that to happen.

Another option is to correct the 14th ammendment; it was never intended to give citizenship to persons born here whose parents are not citizens. It ONLY applied to the freed slaves. In fact, it didn't, and still doesn't, apply to children born here of foreign diplomats. Go figure...

Sounds like a relic of the Cold War past...the Berlin Wall. We condemned the Soviets for erecting it and celebrated its downfall. Odd that we feel the need to isolate ourselves and follow the lead of that dead regime.

Basically, the US is pulling itself into it's shell. Kinda childish for the world's only super power.

I suggest everyone read 'State of Emergency' by Pat Buchanan. I'm not a Buchanan fan, but it is one scary book. Perhaps Garver can suggest a better plan.

President Fox and his successor think that the U.S. is a dumping ground for poor Mexicans. The southwest U.S. is slowly becoming a Third World nation because of the unchecked immegration policy and the millions of illegals entering through Mexico.

What's your plan, Garver?

And if that fence is just window dressing before the election... There will be hell to pay. We are fed up.

Ok, Mr.WhoeverYOUare, when ALL of Mexico is coming here for free healthcare, food and housing. Or when your town is invaded by illegal immigrants and your emergency rooms are closed and your kids can't get into the local community college because it is SWAMPED with non-citizens maybe then the fence will make sense. Until we build a fence, and hold employers accountable, Mexico will not be forced to deal with their own corruption and economy. Yea, it's a shame it's come to this.

Can't we all just be friends? Ok, dumb thing to say - and this fence is a dumb thing to do.

The fence needs to be 2000 miles long, not 700 -- and fully funded.

OK, smart guy, where's your plan to stop the flood illegal aliens. If Texas ranchers need the water , build the fence down the middle. Better yet bring all our troops home and put them on the border with loaded weapons and let them stop the drug and human trafficking thats going on. As far as graft and price fixing, hell its a conservative administration, and thats just normal operating procedures. The flood of illegals has to be stopped. They are contributing the loss of real income in America and are a heavy burden on the states. Politics not withstanding, it has to be stopped.
