EmpireGeorge---_______-- replies Forty-Four, why is it that GB wields so much power, cause it's no coincidence that after THEIR game gets ruined, THEN the old refs come back.....is it their rise to fame, with rogers and this matthews guy ?? or the fact they are publically owned ? or they have the commissioner's ear and attention ? what is it, do you think ?
I was kind of liking the replacement refs, allowing the players to just play, without calling holding for things like simply blocking....but the interference calls have to be correct, it's TOO important. ___________________________________________________________ They are publically owned, but their share holders actually get nothing out of it apart from a $250 (I think that is the price) piece of paper. They get no say in any team dealings and get no money from profits or anything. Basically it is to say that they have it. They can't trade or sell it either to my knowledge.
Apart from that, we cannot figure it out. I know it is normal to think that the referees are biased against your team, but I have never seen them seem to favor one team more. I though the referees were pretty fair except for when the Lions played GB (both times) and the first time that we played New Orleans last season (NO CB's were doing a lot of holding that was not called all night while our guys were getting all of the calls for the same offense). The second time we played NO had 1 call I disagreed with (1st down after only 9 yards were gained). I also hear that the Giants got screwed by the refs while playing GB last season as well.
As for why, I still do not know. Someone on detroitlions.com put together a little dialogue skit for the real refs, basically them deciding how to "fix" what the replacements had done. That is, fix GB having only one win and NO being winless. It was kind of comical.

by EmpireGeorge---_______-- September 27, 2012 12:25 PM EDT Forty-Four, I completely agree....there is no guarantee that the regular refs will so much better.....regular refs call too many holding penalties, in my opinion....but the regular refs ARE better at calling interference penalties, CORRECTLY.
it will be interesting to see, the golden boys Green bay get all the calls now

I can recall MANY blown/BS calls during both of the Det v GB games last season...just off of the top of my head. I won't list them because several require me to explain why said issues were terrible calls. But if this were a one on one discussion which was face to face (and I had more time) I would gladly mention a few. As a member of detroitlions.com pointed out, "the regular refs make a lot of bad calls as well. Just watch Mike and Mike, it usually makes up the first hour." Paraphrased a little bit, but still.
The owners were in it for the long haul and would have signed college ref's for next season if they could have survive this season. They had to put this fire out now. This is all anyone is talking about when they talk about the NFL.
The absolute saddest thing about this referee nonsense was that more people were incensed about the strike and more effort was given for coverage/resolution to the strike than for settling strikes that were vastly more important such as the Chicago's teacher's strike. Pathetic.
This negotiator was easy on the commish - he needed the refs to sign for tonight's game with this PR mess. The negotiator met him half way but in the NFL, this replacement stunt could've cost the commish and owners more than they bargained just to set a precedent for future negotiations.
There are much more dramatic photos of the refs signalling play dead and touchdown at the same time. They used the one shown because the refs faces cannot be seen. These two referees have entered the NFL's bad refs relocation program. They're living in undisclosed locations under assumed identities.
Wall St. bankers nearly demolish the economy, corporations send our jobs overseas, government gets us into TWO wars while cutting taxes then tells us that there is a deficit, but who is to blame for the country's woes - the unions. We can't allow workers to have a voice in their salaries and working conditions. That'd just be wrong.
dontforget Duh! Owners are making hundreds of millions, players are making millions. Here you have the best referees in the world and you want to make them part time and pay them less than $200 a year? They are the top of their profession and do a fantastic job, we are only talking about 121 refs, not thousands.
People who work for unions are sucking the life out of my country. The world would be better off without them. The free market solution would be to get rid of the refs altogether and let the teams police themselves. Leave the job creators alone on wall street and everywhere else.

LOL. Only ten percent of people belong to unions. The other 90 percent don't. Stop blaming unions for government and corporate incompetence.
