I consider Britain, France and US to be three of the most advanced countries in the sense of protecting human rights. It''s their responsibility to show China what to do.
China should seriously consider the idea of "free tibet" after Britain frees Scotland and Northern Ireland; France frees Cosica and Nice. US frees Iraq, Afghanistan, puerto rico,Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, California...oops, technically US should free all Native Americans and give the whole country back to them.
Tibet WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE a part of China

Even hypocrites can be correct in their criticism while still being hypocrites.

Don''t try to take the speck out of your neighbor''s eye until you take the log out of your own. America is still a racist nation and we have prisoners in hidden camps in Europe and Cuba! I get racist emails about Obama on a daily basis.

"Illegal Human Organ Trade from Executed Prisoners in China"
You know where those organs goes, I thought you knew the answer. America that''s where it is.

Whose bright idea was it to let China have the games anyway. Pollution, human rights violations, a government that treats its people like trained seals when it comes to athletics(trained seals are treated better by the eay), the government les when needed and the list goes on. An image can only be tarnished if the image was shiny to begin with.

I truly have no problem pointing out the ills in China, especially as it pertains to Tibet, but to see so many people lambasting China while thinking the US has no problems of its own just irks me.

Is taking drugs not breaking rules? So that''s how you compete in a game, if you don''t get caught, you are lucky. Just strip the medal, easy. Those gymnasts maybe underage but at least they train to compete without "any other method".

Smallpox tainted blankets and massacres under the flag of peace aren''t brutal suppression?

Then I hope you stay as busy pointing out the injustice that still exists in the US. So long as you do, lash out at China all you want. It''''s only when you ignore problematic ''''home'''' and point out problematic ''''other'''' that you become hypocrite.

Agreed. You will find those comments occasionally on domestic articles. I have been quite critical of our village idiot in Washington. They will be there when the Democrats win and screw up also. There will be no excuses. No deflecting.

It is obvious that China has attempted to suppress the Tibetan culture and nation through history. Wouldn''t autonomy within China be better than brutal suppression? Would that not bring more good will and respect from the world community?

I didn''''t defend China. However, I do think that we should take care of our own problems before we start pointing fingers elsewhere. Otherwise we''''re nothing more than hypocrites.

Not being a nation myself, I can hardly be a hypocrite. I can only do what one person can do, which I try my best. But I have every right, even responsibility, to point out injustice everywhere. I will not ignore evil in China just because there is evil in America. I will not give them that excuse. I am tired of the excuse that others do it so don''t criticize us. That''s a cop-out.

tell us about china''''s treatment of TIBET comrade,,,

Oh, and it''s laughable that you bring up Tibet... try every native nation on this continent... not to mention native Hawaiians, whose island the US stole and never gave back. And THAT wasn''t 200 years ago, which is the common excuse to say that what was done to the nations on this continent was so far in the past that it doesn''t matter any more.

even the indigenous peoples of america as you call them,,,have freedoms the chinese people do not have and never will have,,,

You, obviously, have never been to a reservation. Not the tourist part, the REAL part. Freedom can''t begin when you can barely live.

I just think it''''s funny that people condemn China while looking past the human rights and equality problems that still exist in the US today... not to mention that poor way that the US has treated indigenous peoples from its inception.

Posted by Caeric at 10:53 PM : Aug 24, 2008

Who says we don''t acknowledge that? Can''t we point out others wrongs? Why not defend Chinese actions? America''s mistakes do not make China''s OK. Isn''t this something you tell your children all the time? Just because Johnny jumps off a cliff, are you going to also? I think its funny that people defend China by deflecting attention elsewhere. Likely because they have no defense! All totalitarian nations do the same. But what about........?
