I don't care if my taxes are raised. I've had enough of tax breaks for the wealthy for the none existent or crappy jobs.

Well, maybe it's time to speak up and tell everyone what's really going on here. My sources will forever disown me but this is about saving our economy and not protecting a political party.

Plain and simple, the GOP wants to win the Whitehouse and will do anything they can to obtain this goal. The directive here is they have a better chance at beating Obama if the recovery stalls and unemployment spikes. The directive they have is to stop the recovery and since public spending has been the engine, cutting the budget under the pretense of fiscal responsibility is only a lie that cover's the true intentions.

If they really were worried about deficit spending then why did they line up behind President Bush with Iraq and the stimulus packages handed out prior to Obama's presidency?

Stop being stupid and read between the lines. This budget standoff is all about politics and has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility!

PLEASE raise my taxes!!! We are in the top tax bracket. My spouse is a successful entrepreneur, having started a business over 20 years ago. I have a successful professional career.

If our personal taxes go up, it in no way affects the business we own. Corporate taxes are not an issue, and there have been tax CUTS for small businesses. My personal spending will remain unchanged; we do not spend all the money we make. My annual savings will be reduced by the amount of the additional tax...

BUT...I have substantial investments in stocks and real estate. If raising taxes and reducing the deficit improves the economy, the value of my portfolio should go up, and even a small rise in the value of my portfolio would more than offset any increase in taxes. Further, my portfolio gains are tax-advantaged; I do not have to pay capital gains taxes until I sell the security, so the time value of money reduces my taxes, and capital gains are taxed at half of the tax rate on my earned income...which would make the net effect of raising my taxes to both increase my wealth and to decrease the total tax paid on my income.

kris, I do not want my taxes raised until the other almost 50% of people who do not pay income taxes now have to start paying their "fair share". Until that time there is nothing stopping you from paying more taxes right now (means you're feeling so generous with other peoples money).

The tax give aways to the rich have had 30 years to work, since Regean tried it and never worked. This huge fraud by the GOP shows who they work for and it is not the working class of this country. They have their orders and if they have to shut down the economy to peserve special benefits for the rich, they will do it. Those guys have enough money to survive another great depression and be comfortable, until the people would woke up and consicate it that is.

That is like Reagan and Bush saying we would grow out of the deficits. That did not happen then and will NOT happen now, but it sounds good.

I don't think that there will be any pain inflicted on the republicans. They will hold Obama and the American people hostage until they get what they want. No raising of taxes for their rich friends, no taking away tax breaks for corporations and oil companies continuing to pay no taxes at all, etc. etc. etc. All you folks who voted for the republicans, you are getting just what you deserve. There has been no progress on what they promised to do. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS. They are too busy trying to tear down everything the Obama administration has accomplished.

Why is this idiot extremist who is against supporting America in our Congress? All he is is another shill for corporations who are destroying the American workers and middle class to enrich his corporate masters. If I saw him licking the boots and toes of some CEOs it would not surprise me.
