- I think the news people should stick to TSA love ins and leave us something to be happy about. There's a danger in these folks taking themselves and their jobs, which I think for the most part they've lost their way on, to seriously.
The days of Camelot and such give us two minutes away from the impending doom they give us the othe 23 hours a day. - Reply to this comment

- Sorry Bob. I usually agree with you but not this time. The system works for the British now and has worked for over a millennium (excepting of course that nasty bit with Cromwell). I'd much rather pay a few quid to support the Queen and her corgis than what I'm shelling out in this country to support zillionaire CEO's, rapacious health insurance companies, and the Oil Barons.

- I'm afraid it would take reams of text in here for me to explain this to you..but lets try anyway. First, we (Monarchists) know only too well that this is a system that appears archaic, we don't expect you to understand it. But every country has to have a head of state, and they don't come free. As to the money angle, if you took all the funds paid to The Royal Family and divied it up equally amongst the British people, they would receive about sixpence each; and only for the one year, then they would have to do what you do, and pay for whatever replaced the system.
As to the system itself, being elected to the job by birthright, I thank them for standing for it...Imagine being born, reaching around 5 or 6 years old, just starting to notice life around you and then being pulled aside and told; "You're not like everyone else, you can't go to the movies or the shopping mall". It's a wonder to me that they don't reach the age of majority and scarper as fast as they can from the whole set-up. No, it's like slavery with money to me, we should and do keep them in luxury, I'll pay my part any day. - Reply to this comment

- Congratulation to Bob Schieffer for saying this morning what so many Americans feel about the royal family of England. I am a senior and I have an ancestor commemorated on Bunker Hill killed in the Revolutionary War. The other night on Katie Couric five minutes was given at the beginning of the show to this indigent bunch of questionable background while a short segment near the end of the show was given to a clearly traumantized Medal of Honor winner. Any American who "loves" the royal family should go to England and support them. Many thanks Bob.
