There are many things you can do reduce abortions and bring more pregnancies to birth. There is a world of data out there about what works. Look at European countries and you can see widely varied abortion rates. Do some research.

Many ordinary Republicans are actually pro-Life. Most of these men in power, the ones who are one-step-from-Akin, have exactly one thing they want to do about abortion: take away the right to choose from (poorer) women. In their world woman can't even choose life: if a young woman is about to give up a college career for a life of likely poverty to carry an accidental pregnancy, in their world she'd never make that choice, just be told she had to.

The Republican boys-in-charge want to take away women's choice from both directions: they would take away the choice for a single woman to provide well for her child if she chooses life, and would threaten her with punishment unless she carries the child anyway. Check the abortion rates in the US: they've been falling faster under Democratic governments than Republican. In Europe, the socialists who look out for ordinary people (better funded schools, daycare, time home from work for new parents) are completely Pro-Choice while supporting mothers, and in turn women there are choosing life.

Okay Mr. Rubio if this is about protecting life "at all stages" how come you are pushing a constitutional amendment no less banning ALL abortion even to save a woman's life. So what about a woman's right to life or when she becomes pregnant is she suddenly no longer alive or no longer human more like a cow maybe. This is such a ridiculous argument it doesn't even rise to the level of stupidity. Who does he think he is fooling.

It seems that if abortion was again illegal the only women that would really suffer would be the poor, the young, and the less powerful. The wealthy, the "upper" class, the influential would always be able to travel to somewhere that abortion is still legal and SAFE e.g. Canada The other classes would need to find the local back alley again. There would be tons of former interns and disbarred doctors around to make a few bucks because they have seen or done a few abortions. It would seem an easy way to make a few bucks. Only certain groups would suffer the consequences of making abortion illegal e.g. The young teen who doesn't want to upset her parents, the desperate mother who already has 6 kids and can't afford more. They might die in a bad procedure while the more affluent would be okay. Not real fair, is it?

Ok, then gun control is not about denying the right to own weapons, it's about the right for someone's bullets not to enter my body! It's pro-life for myself ...

First of all I found Sen. Rubio to be the most articulate, genuine and responsive of all the republicans interviewed by CBS thus far. However, I still measured a degree of denial ... He opened with the RNC party line ... are you better off in the last four years? Yes I am, however, the question should be are you better off than you were 12 years ago? The answer to that is "hell no". Thank you party-of-no ... they will need to explain how their current plans are different than trickle down and what the Bush administration handed down. I for one do not wish a return to that era of devastation.

Regards,
Strongly Independent American Voter

Todd Akin only stated what most GOP politicians think and say in private. They attacked him not for his message but because he let slip their secret. The anti-abortionist, especially the GOP are riding this for all they can get because it gives them power over women. That is the only reason they call themselves pro-life, when anyone who has a brain cansee that they are no pro-life by any stretch of the imagination. They are against affordable health care and promise to repeal the ACA. That alone would kill untolled numbers of poor people, and people with existing conditions. Because they can't afford insurance, or have been denied coverage. The GOP can not have it both ways, and if saving lives is their only concern then why do they opose the ACA?
I agree with obwan222 and all the points in his/her post completely. The GOP needs to stop their war against women.

In the 1960's us women fought for our rights to do with our bodies what WE felt had to be done. No man or politician was ever going to tell us what we could and couldn't do again.

Now it's happening again and politicians have again decided that we don't know what to do with our bodies. rccrawford said it all in her comments. Thank you to her. I'm a senior citizen now but the fight for women's rights has never left me. All this bull@@#$ from the Republican Party about outlawing abortion again, makes me sick! Mr. Rubio says that "opposing abortion isn't denying rights". Oh please, then why are laws being passed making us criminals again. We absolutely know and grieve for going to have an abortion. Making us go underground for an abortion again, or doing whatever we need to do is just "opposing abortion"? How stupid does this man and the Republican Party think we are? If we need to fight again for our rights, I will be out there again! I may be old but I'm still a fighter for Women's Rights.

These guys are not "pro-life." it would take an amazing twist of meaning to be pro-war, pro-gun, pro-torture, pro-death penalty, anti-medical care and anti-education and still call yourself "pro-life." What they are is pro-birth rate and pro -control of women. It's all about the fetus until it's born. Then they don't want to pay taxes for food stamps, medicaid or education. As of today, Florida Republicans are trying to coerce a ten year old incest victim into having her rapist's baby. They want live babies for two reasons; they want to turn them into dead soldiers for their continual wars and as drones for their factories to compete against each other in a dwindling job market with worse working conditions. They want to deregulate businesses for one reason; to make their rich campaign contributors richer by maximizing profits by cutting wages and deregulating working conditions combined with raising the cost of living.

Matthew 7
[ Judging Others ] "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ...
Let women decide what they want to do - utimately when judgement day comes, they can answer for themselves, but to try to impose laws comprised of one's own belief system that is different, is no more than a hypocrite and will be judged as he judges.
It doesn't take much to look back and see what the good Christians did when they banned alcohol... they opened the door for the mafia to enter in and we've been having hell ever since! When will you all learn the lessons from the past? Trying to impose personal religious beliefs on others leads nowhere!

From the Republican National Platform for 2012:

"Faithful to the 'self-evident' truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children."

In other words, Republicans oppose all abortions for any reason. This is clearly what Ryan believes. He has voted for this in Congress. Rubio, too. Romney, now, would require that his vote in Congress be secret, if he were there.

Women, why would any of you vote for any Republican in the country.
SEND A MESSAGE: Turn out all Republicans!
