- I am a Christian, and will support the president in November because of the seriousness of the issues that are on the table in this election; although I disagree with him on same-sex marriage.
The manner in which this whole matter is being discussed does a disservice to our nation, because several issues have been conflated ( or all pressed into one). Discrimination is wrong, and ultimately this matter will probably have to be resolved in the courts because it's a legal issue. However, from a religious standpoint, many fallacious arguments have been made that distort what The Scriptures actually say or mean on a number of issues raised in the defense of same-sex marriage - from homosexuality itself, slavery, love and respect for others; to interracial marriage( even by some theology professors). As one who has studied theology(Apologetics in particular), this is disturbing to me.It mischaracterizes and undermines true Biblical Christianity itself. The premises have to be accurate or the conclusions that we reach will be false.Christians hold scripture to be sacred and authoritative; but even many others cite it as a metric for living to some degree. Therefore, it would make sense to be correct in what is asserted. One thing that I must say is that true Christians do not hate gays and lesbians, and don't treat them any differently than the next person, but with the dignity and respect that our faith demands.
The idea of same-sex marriage is difficult for many, because it redefines what marriage means to most people. If the issue is simply, "I should have the right to marry whomever I choose, under any circumstance" , it does beg the question, "Will there be any relationship that would not fall into that category?" Will incestuous or polygamous relationships be acceptable? Some people have raised this issue in a crass, mean-spirited way;and while some may find this insulting, it is a hard, but valid question that will have to be answered. - Reply to this comment

Bigot's excuses for their condoning discrimination are not reasons. - Reply to this comment
- There are a variety of reasons to discriminate against homosexuality. Medical reasons such as gay bowel disease and depression, increased health care related costs, offending straight people who abhor homosexual advances, it's biologically dysfunctional, it ignores the reality that life is sexually transmitted, it severs a family lineage, it promotes the disintegration of biological families, exposes impressionable children to a lifestyle parents disagree with, it creates a shortened life span, and most importantly to some of us, the Bible says it's wrong. And while these values can't be forced on others, they should at least examine the evidence.
Obama is just pandering to the left. At a 2008 campaign event at Saddleback Church, Obama said, "I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. For me as a Christian, it's also a sacred union. God's in the mix." - Reply to this comment
- I can't understand why ANY news organization would seek the opinion of Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council on ANY subject. I know Perkins is a very effective self-promoter, but is it possible that CBS isn't aware that the Southern Poverty Law Center considers the Family Research Council a hate group? I'm sure that there are Americans who agree with Perkins' nastiness, but I'd love to know just who FRC's members and funders are.

- Evangelicals, go build your theocracy somewhere else! This country doesn't want or need you. We want to live in a country of laws and justice and equality for all. Your false morals have no place in a law abiding culture and your proselytizing is totally unacceptable. I escaped from the bible belt years ago and have very little tolerance for anyone who invokes the Will of God as the supreme law of the land. The problem is that every person and faith has a different idea about what is the Will of God, so there are no standards that we can all live by, a recipe for chaos and sectarianism and hate-crimes.
