Forget about snakes, and show more concern for the camel you swallowed,
while straining at a gnat.
Tax Breaks for Those Who Never Needed Them--
Even if most GOP faithful do not yet know the definition, "Dow 13,000 Plus"
Obama has been declared a socialist by those like Romney, whose only
concern is keeping their own Marie Antoinette tax breaks-- paid for by the
rest of American taxpayers (the 99 percent which includes plenty of liberals).
In effect, the GOP is happy that middle-class Americans pay more, so
Romney and (David) Koch can pay less. At one point, faced with a choice between funding unemployment insurance for those who lost their jobs after the GOP debacle on Wall Street, and keeping their own fatcat tax breaks, the GOP chose to clutch their tax breaks, and let other Americans go hungry and homeless.
Welfare for the Wealthiest--
Yes, if you truly want to complain about welfare, focus on the bloated and
ever-increasing Pentagon budget ($708 billion in 2012), and even more for
2013-- a huge percentage of the expense devoted to fighting a war in Cold
War style, on conventional terms. Defense contractors on an established basis with the Pentagon live comfortably from budget to budget-- always assured "maintenance".
Or focus on tax breaks awarded by congress to corporations and the
minuscule group of wealthy which declare themselves "job creators", even if they deliver few jobs. In fact, some 67 percent of American corporations pay no income tax, at all-- the most lavish system of public support in the world.
Romney pays less tax than average middle-class families because tax laws
were rewritten to favor capital gains (investments).
In effect, Romney lives in spendor without working, subsidized by the American taxpayer. Because the tax Romney should pay but does
not must be paid by the rest of us.
The GOP claim about job creation is the biggest campaign mythology of all
time. The American public waited through two Bush terms without even a hint of the roaring GOP prosperity promised by Bush speechwriters, only to lose their jobs after the massive casino scandal and recession of Wall Street, 2007-2008. And then to see their homes foreclosed by the very banks bailed out by their tax dollars, under a 2008 demand from Bush and his treasury secretary, Paulson.
About Hawaii and Asia--
Our fifty-first state Hawaii clearly is not of the contiguous United States, and closer to Asia in culture, history and ethnicity than to the United States mainland. As the northern edge of the Polynesian archipelago, Hawaii is a surprising collection of differences-- the only US state to sport a Union Jack as part of its state flag, and our only insular state, with island Hawaii literally resting atop a seamount taller than Everest.
Obama Misspoke in 2008--
You are beating a dead horse with your comment about "57 states". Obama
made this mistake during a 2008 campaign stop (almost four years ago), and
even more importantly, corrected himself shortly afterward. See--
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/57states.asp
By comparison, most GOP candidates never bother to correct themselves.

New CAFE Standards for Increased National Fuel Efficiency--
Your comment about gas savings due to higher mileage requirements refers
to savings from a new car purchased in 2025, not today. The savings is
calculated by comparing the fuel cost of a 2010 standard vehicle with the fuel cost of a 2025 vehicle of similar specifications. Many factors are on track to change by 2025, including cost of fuel, which has been taken into account in the Obama estimate.

miamivic2 said, "... The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency..."
------
That citizenry is you and I and the millions who did choose Obama over McCain, and over the previous eight years of disastrous Bush politics. That is called democracy. and it was an energetic move toward recovery-- proof most Americans believe their country and its ideal of a democratic system have a bright future.
And better an Obama, than an election in which the "winner" is selected by the US Supreme Court, or a Central Committee of the Permanent Republican Majority envisioned by Karl Rove.
But there is some truth to the claim Obama does not effectively represent the constituency that elected him by a landslide in 2008. That was an election demanding fundamental reform, which Obama characterized during 2008 as putting an end to the way Washington does business.
Today, Washington still does business its way, particularly on Wall Street. Until very recently, no bank chiefs were indicated, only given bonuses. Foreclosures peaked under Obama, despite window-dressing of banking reform that changed little. And of course, Obama's effort to place Elizabeth Warren as director of a federal consumer protection agency-- the only measure that even hinted of reform on Wall Street and with reducing bank foreclosures-- was not a vigorous committment, and Obama withdrew Warren at the first opportunity.
But portraying Obama as "prince of fools" shows your abysmal level of ignorance about the way Washington works. Obama is not emperor, and does not rule by fiat. Instead, he is limited in important ways by the need to reach a bipartisan accord with political opponents. Despite that dependency, certain GOP figures with whom Obama must work spend their time "gaming the system" with extremist pranks about budget ceilings and spending caps-- demands of, by and for the wealthy one percent they serve, not the American people. - Reply to this comment
- There are lots of reasons for the rise in gas prices, but the lack of American production is not one of them. Domestic crude oil production is actually up from 5.4 million barrels a day in 2004 to 5.59 million now; imports have dropped by more than 10 percent in the same period. Despite a temporary slowdown in exploration in the Gulf of Mexico after the BP oil disaster, the number of rigs in American oil fields has quadrupled over three years. There have been new discoveries and the administration has promised to open up more offshore reserves. To say that Mr. Obama has denied industry access is nonsense.
The truth is that oil prices are set on world markets by forces largely beyond America's control. Chief among these is soaring demand in countries like China. Unrest in oil-producing countries is another factor.
Therein lies the biggest weakness in the republican litany. A country that consumes more than 20 percent of the world's oil supply but owns 2 percent of its reserves cannot drill its way out of high prices or dependence on exports from unstable countries. The only plausible strategy is to keep production up while cutting consumption and embarking on a serious program of alternative fuels. - Reply to this comment
- In case anyone hasn't noticed, we are part of a global economy where countries around the world compete for the same oil. If we built the pipeline and all of the oil went to foreign countries, the net effect is to increase the world's oil supply. By increasing the world's oil supply, everyone should be paying lower prices. Although those who argue that the pipeline would simply allow all of the oil to go elsewhere may be wrong, the fact remains that world oil supply would increase even if they are right.

Obama could solve the problem tomorrow morning and move on by uttering these 5 simple words;
"I will end all drilling restrictions."
Sadly the part of the brain in Obama which connects the "Cause Lobe" and the "Effect Lobe" is more or less permanently disconnected.
Actually the drilling restrictions were lifted in Sept 2008 under Bush's watch.
You just prove how uninformed and ignorant you are, when you believe that we can just "drill, baby, drill" our way to energy independence. - Reply to this comment
- The idea that the Keystone Pipeline would give thousands of jobs is a myth. It'll give some initial jobs when it's being constructed, but then it'll be less than a hundred.
Anyone saying the Republicans can get gas to $2.50/gallon obviously knows nothing about the nature of oil as a global commodity. The only real dynamic to worry about it the point as which gas becomes expensive enough for American's to buy less of it at the pump. At that point and no other, the price will level off and go down again. Supply and demand. It's how the country is constructed. - Reply to this comment
- I have to laugh when I see the drill here drill now nut cases posting about how we need to drill more. The clowns have no clue that no matter how much we drill here or drill now the oil automatically belong to offshore global tax havens.
The ignorant think a pipeline from Canada to Texas is going to solve our problems. How about refining it close to the source in a state like Wisconsin once walker is thrown out? The only reason big oil wants a pipeline to texas is so they can put it on tankers and ship it to China. Get a clue clowns. You want to watch the price of gas drop throw republicans out of office! Big oil will realise your on to them then. - Reply to this comment
- How hypocritical can the Dems get?
Here's a quote from Nancy Pelosi from 2006 -
"With skyrocketing gas prices, it is clear that the American people can no longer afford the Republican Rubber Stamp Congress and its failure to stand up to Republican big oil and gas company cronies. Americans this week are paying $2.91 a gallon on average for regular gasoline - 33 cents higher than last month, and double the price than when President Bush first came to office. - "Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels."
---->The Dems obviously didn't crack down on price gouging and time has proven that the rest of the obviously backwards Democratic "plan" didn't work either. - Reply to this comment
- I know it's hard to accept but high oil prices are good for exploration. It brings on new technology, and new fields become viable. Oil doesn't come out of the ground profitable almost anywhere at 20 bucks a barrel anymore. And anyone who says they can get us cheap gasoline in a world market is not only selling snake oil, they're talking nationalising the industry. Socialism.
