Face The Nation: Republicans Discuss The Future Of Their Party Following Election Losses
- "So you do not see [Palin] as the de facto leader of the party at this point?" Schieffer asked.
"No," said Gingrich. "She''s a wonderfully, intelligent, aggressive hardworking person who got, you know, hammered very badly by the press in, I think, fairly distorted ways.
THERE YOU HAVE IT! The GOP will not admit when they''ve made a mistake. Sarah Palin is not more qualified to be President of the United States than I am. She''s uninformed and too narrow in her focus when it comes to trying to help people.
Note to Newt: the old ways ain''t workin'' any more, Pardner. Keep on going down this path and your beloved GOP be on the floor looking up again in 2010. - Reply to this comment
- Gingrich said:""And in each case, I watched us, within a short time, focus on new ideas and new solutions and, within a very short time, come back as a stronger and healthier party."
His new solutions and ideas can be summed up in two words: Fear and Loathing. Fear of that imminent terrorist attack that only Republicans can prevent; Loathing of Homosexuals and their plan to destroy the American family; loathing of women who must make tragic decisions, (Republicans want to give the abortion business back to the criminals that held their clinics in back allies with tools discarded from dry cleaners back in the days before Roe v Wade) and the kind of Financial leadership that keeps the rich, rich and the poor, poor. After all, that is their constituency; the few who benefit, and the ones who are too hungry to think beyond flag waving rhetoric.
I''m sure that any Republican reading this will wave off all the comments as "Liberal Media Bullcrap", because, as we all know, only super left winger treehugger homos pay any attention to CBS, anyway. - Reply to this comment

- "Number three, we have got to be the party that offers real solutions to the problems that American voters, American families are worried about."
And you think you can still do that while catering to a constituency that hasn''t reconciled to the fact that the earth is more than 6,000 years old? I doubt it. - Reply to this comment

- "BamasaLady" got it exactly right. Good for you I could not have said it better. Yes you have to wonder what these GOP leaders were listening to during and after the election campaign. Golly they just don''t want to state the obvious that she comes across as a very low intelligence person.

When was the last time we had a Republican White House, Senate and House? Right before the Great Depression I.
What kind of threat do you think this financial meltdown is to the national security of this country? DEREGULATION of risky bets (derivatives) is the root of this meltdown and it is risking our way of life as well as ability to fund our military. - Reply to this comment

- Shelby, however, said that a bailout of the auto industry would be "the wrong road to go down right now," and said he would prefer troubled automakers file for bankruptcy rather than get taxpayers'' money.

Bush bailed out the airlines ($15 billion) directly after 9/11 with the surplus he inherited.
It''s not like particular industries haven''t been bailed out before. - Reply to this comment
- "She''s a wonderfully, intelligent, aggressive hardworking person who got, you know, hammered very badly by the press in, I think, fairly distorted ways." Gingrich stated, and he must not have been listening to her at all during the campaign. She completely LACKS GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, be it current or historical, in civics and geography [most high school students have more knowledge than she demonstrated] and she lacks INTELLECT. I will give her credit for being able to MEMORIZE TALKING POINTS and being able to RECITE THEM BY ROTE, but that won''t help her one little bit in the national arena. She is certainly aggressive, but that is only to obtain the ''greed and personal power'' she desires, but again, that will not help her.
The press did not hammer her in asking questions so the electorate could learn more about her personally as well as her political credentials or distort her capabilities. The questions were not difficult or "gotcha" questions, but rather questions that any political figure would be asked. For Gingrich to make that statement is ridiculous. He has always ''covered'' or made excuses for the GOP and certain pols in it!
One could consider that Jindal would most definitely be a leader for the GOP because at least he recognizes that there really is somethng very wrong with his Party and as he will works to define what it is, he will also produce a better Party. - Reply to this comment
