Bob Schieffer Wonders, Why So Much Emphasis On Flag Lapel Pins As A Sign Of Patriotism?
- To tell the truth, I miss the days before the American flag adorned lapels, tee shirts, bumper stickers, lawn ornaments, and there was a mandatory 7-10+ flags behind every official appearance by a candidate or President.
Yes...and there was a time when at least 90% of them were NOT MADE IN CHINA. - Reply to this comment
- Even though the libs want to harass our soldiers, give comfort to our enemy, disrupt important laws that would protect us. Pathetic

Agreed, that people live such deluded lives as you apparently do is truly just that, pathetic. - Reply to this comment

There was a time of yesteryear when the flag meant something important and there were but a few official flags in our lives. In those days, you did not wear the flag nor advertise it. You honored its country once a day in school or in other official ceremony.
It was a much simpler time and a clearer meaning for the flag. - Reply to this comment
- No, the proof in these puddings is not the signs we wear but how we act.
Wouldn''t that also be a better way to judge our presidential candidates than by the jewelry they wear?
BINGO....these last words sum it up. The flag pin lapel wearers comprise the most self-serving anti-social unamerican capitalistic and elitist minded individuals that would reduce this country to the oligarchies of the old European world quicker than the terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center Towers. - Reply to this comment
- Okay, I wasn''t going to weigh in on this one because some many people are so polarized. It''s really quite depressing. Obama''s jewelry, Rev. Wright, Bitter comments. Are you kidding me? I love my country, I love America. I have never worn flag pin in my life. Many of my friends have never worn a flag pin. And I know each and every one of them are TRUE Americans. I have disagreed with my pastor from time to time. NEWS FLASH!!! Rev. Wright is not running for president. And... if you bothered to actually listen to WRIGHT''S ENTIRE sermon, you would''ve understood the context from which he spoke. Additionally, I am a black man in America and many of my black friends and black family have absolutely no problem with what Rev. Wright said. Part of America''s legacy is it''s racist, slave holding, jim crow, discriminating, subjective past. Institutional racism is still rampant and very alive in America. As a wealthy, college educated Black American (yes, a brotha'' got some cash - LEGALLY), while I love my country, I have (like many Black Americans) suffered through racism, discrimination, subjectivity. The trick is not let the struggle destroy, but figure out how to survive within this environment we call America.

- Bob Schieffer has to be one of the last broadcast journalists in the tradition of Edward R. Morrow. What foolishness this flag pin business is, and what a shame it is that many Americans cannot see the simple truth Mr Schieffer pointed out - that wearing a pin on your lapel is a poor substitute for patriotic actions.

- cattlekate....So true. It is so frustrating that it is almost impossible to get at the TRUTH about anything. Some say the media is left wing, some say right wing. I say that the media is just full of BS and half truths. You can''t believe anything they say. My old granny used to say,"Don''t believe anything you hear and only half what you see". True words of wisdom.

- obama8years...May God have mercy on you. How can you look the the record of this administration and say you would want another dose of them? It''s OK that you hate Clinton and Obama. Vote for McCain, that''s OK too. But your statement is just mind blowing. I fully support your right to feel the way you do, I just don''t understand you. Maybe that''s the problem these days. We all just don''t understand each other. It seems like we are fighting each other instead of fighting to solve all the terrible problems that our country faces. The funny thing is that although we have never met and would not know each other if we met on the street I would bet my last dollar that if either of us saw the other one in trouble we would be there for each other in an instant. I know that because we are both Americans.

- OBAMA AND REV WRIGHT Supporting Radical ISLAM..NOW WHAT WE DO? THIS IS A FACT,....NOT FICTION or I wouldnt be wasting my time!!!
%u201CI can no more disown him than I can disown the black community,%u201D said Obama. So then it is clear that Obama believes that Wright%u2019s ideas represent the black community and black experience in America when they represent only the radicalized fringe of black America that wants to aid America%u2019s enemies abroad. It is doubtful many black Americans who served proudly in the US military feel the same as Wright on this issue.
%u2028What is more, militant Islamists see a potential to sow internal problems and promote their fascist goals in the US by trying to divide the American black community against the US government. Whereas blacks have been exploited in the past, this is now seen as a way to achieve the goals of expanding the Muslim ummah inside the US from in the Middle East. That is why Libya gives money to Farrakhan and why the ISM and Sabeel work with Reverend Wright whose personal interpretations of Christianity are entrenched in Obama%u2019s mind as the True Word of Christianity. Wright actually visited Mohammar Ghaddafi in Libya with Farrakhan in the past. - Reply to this comment
- MCVet....I just want to say that I admire your passion. If my azz was on the line in combat you are the kind of man I would want next to me. Did you see the first segment of 60 minutes tonight? It was about one of our special forces teams who were pinned down in Afghanistan by talaban forces who outnumbered them by hundreds. It was about how they fought off attack after attack and emerged victorious. It was about two of them who gave their lives to save their fellow soldiers. It was about honor and duty and bravery. Those men are TRUE HEROS. They spoke with actions not pins. I''m a worthless old man now and I wept as I watched their story unfold. God Bless America and God Bless our brave troops.

- Anyone know why Hamas has endorsed Barack Obama?
Could it be Obama church has printed a bullentin supporting Hamas.
The question is if we want a man in the White House who will regularly give his ear to the likes of a Reverend Wright, his and Sabeel%u2019s replacement theologies, and pro-terrorist propagandists like Ali Abunimah on a regular basis? In one sense, Obama could be considered the ISM%u2019s Manchurian candidate given his wide connections to ISM activists and campaign movements such as the Wheels of Justice Tour, Joseph Carr a.k.a. Joseph Smith, Hannah Mermelstein, Anna Baltzer and others. - Reply to this comment
- I am Pro George W Bush and proud of it. I voted for him twice and would vote for him and Cheney again. Millions of Americans feel the same way and we totally ignore the bushHaters!
---------------------------------------------
The main reason there is so much bush hate out there. Is that all the Main Stream Liberal Stations, have been bashing bush for 8 years.
Has any of those liberal media news organization do a story on how bush has made our country safer with his policys. Agree with them or not, we havent had a successful terrorist attack since 911. I and along with everyone else were certain another attack was immenent and would happen within the year. Regardless of your position on Iraq, the administration has kept us from another attack like 911. Even though the libs want to harass our soldiers, give comfort to our enemy, disrupt important laws that would protect us. Pathetic - Reply to this comment
- Wether or not Obama supports hamas or not. It is very suspicious, with all his past actions and associaties.
Obama and rev wrights church have both been involved with the ISM.(pro palestine group).
Rev Wright Openly Supports Hamas by Publishing Pro-Hamas in his Bulletin.

- Xlib....I note in one of your posts that you are a nurse at a VA hospital. Although you and I differ politically I want to just thank you for your work with the VA. At a time when many are making disparaging remarks about the VA I just want to say that I cannot express my appreciation of you enough. I am a Viet Nam era veteran and although my problems are not combat related the care I receive at the VA has been first class. The doctors, nurses, and all other personnel are kind, helpful and skilled in what they do. At this point in my life I feel I am still alive because of the care I have received. Thank you again so very, very much for what you do. From a grateful X-GI.

- If you know a terrorist and the terrorist knows you; If you knowingly collaborate with a terrorist; If you consider a terrorist your friend, then you yourself have become a terrorist. Terrorism, whether current or historical, and the individuals associated with these chaotic acts are now and will always be terrorists. Those who have knowledge of the terrorist background of indidviduals and yet work or cooperate with them are terrorists. Obama is a terrorist. It only a matter of time and he will fall on his own sword._____________________posted by anappleadae

- think you missed the point of the debate. The Democrats have had what 100 debates and they usually give their speech-writer response. Or, you can check out the same issue statements on each of their websites. What I liked about this "debate" is it forced the candidates to speak on their own without preparing the "politically correct" response. ABC should have done the entire debate that way rather than resorting to the same tired questions after the entertaining first hour. I really enjoyed the stuttering politicians for a change. Come one people, lighten up and get over the fact that your candidate isn''''t perfect, lapel pin or not.
