Bob Schieffer Wonders, Why So Much Emphasis On Flag Lapel Pins As A Sign Of Patriotism?
- I''m sure Prick Cheney and his puppet Bush were wearing flag pins while they screwed the American people doggie style for 7 years.

- In the rose garden the other day, Bush and Gordon Brown were giving a press conference - they both WERE NOT wearing their country''s respective flag pins.
Yesterday PM, Newt Gingrich was on Hannity''s show - neither was wearing flag pins.
Last month, Bush and Cheney''s pictures on their wikipedia pages were "refreshed" to have "new" pictures (with flag pins) put on their pages - prior to that their pictures DID NOT have their flag pins.
McCain in AT LEAST two different press meetings last week, DID NOT wear a flag pin.
Why is it perfectly acceptable when the "right" does not wear the pins, but a "display of hatred and contempt for your country" when Obama doesn''t wear them? - Reply to this comment
- "No, the proof in these puddings is not the signs we wear but how we act."
Wouldn''t that also be a better way to judge our presidential candidates than by the jewelry they wear?

No flag pin worn...no big deal. But Obama''s actions speak louder to me than his eloquent words. And I don''t like what his actions are telling me. - Reply to this comment

- They had a great episode on Seinfeld where Kramer is hassled for not wearing a red ribbon lapel pin supporting AIDS - of course where is he when attacked - marching in a AIDS Awareness Rally.
And there is Obama - up to his neck in one of the greatest democratic events in recent American history - running for President - and NO flag on his lapel.

I can wear a flag pin. Do at times. I really like the story. Thats right it is in the heart. The same with Jesus. in the heart. I would rather see the flag and yes I was raised to love the flag. - Reply to this comment

So you''''re saying that the Bush Admin has NOT manipulated the Consitution and made it a weaker document, as well as weaken our standing in the world when we won''''t even follow our OWN rules? No...you''''re right, it''''s horrendous that a SENATOR and POTENTIAL PRESIDENT isn''''t more concerned about making a fashion statement. That''''s what our troops are fighting for....lapel pins...... :o(
No, that''s not what I''m saying; thanks for playing
this round of knee-jerk roulette though. - Reply to this comment
- A real indicator of patriotism is who your supporters are. Not only is Obama very supported by the bigoted Rev. Wright(who said "God d**n America)but now he has been enodorsed by the terrorist group Hamas. Read about it at

The truth does hurt because the only candidate who thought they were entitled to the Presidency from the very beginning was Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and its the main reason she is losing, she underestimated Sen. Barack Obama, didn''t plan a long term campaign, incorrectly thought it would be over soon, wasted her campaign money on donuts and pizza and went broke pigging out and not taking her opponent seriously! Sen. Clinton is serious now, doing all the things she should have been doing early on, non-stop and now she finds herself in a hole to big to climb out of and that truth hurts too! - Reply to this comment
- The strange thing is that most in the Republican party that wear the flag lapel pin are people who want to trash the constitution and go the way of 1939 facists. The list of flag wearing "patriots" who are now in jail or indicted on crimes (or pardoned) is enormous. There was nothing patriotic about these people. Karl Rove is a good example. Even now as Rove stands to testify before Congress, he himself wears a lapel flag pin. What hypocrisy. These people have nothing but contempt for the American values laid out in the Constitution. Rove even poredicted recently that he will probably beindicted before summer''s end, at a college speech recently. Thats the one thing he got right!
Thank you again Mr. Schieffer for being spot on! - Reply to this comment
- Mr Schieffer your comment was refreshing and most of all inmy opinion the truest statement on this flag pin issue I have heard yet. Thank you for being a TRUE journalist in the tradition of Morrow, Cronkite, et al.

- Schieffer: "the proof in these puddings is not the signs we wear but how we act."
Bush has doubled the national debt (now at $10 trillion) by cutting taxes and INCREASING federal spending, including a 40% increase in the defense budget, a massive farm bill, and the largest increase in entitlement spending in 30 years. That $10 trillion Bush debt will have to be paid by my children by curtailing their happiness throughout their lives.
But, Bush tells me he''s a fiscal conservative, and like all loyal Bushies, I believe him. What are YOU telling me, Mr. Scheiffer?? - Reply to this comment
