Comments on: Why The Iraq War Goes Ignored
Bob Schieffer Notes That Too Few Of Us, Including The Candidates, Pay Attention To This Deadly Topic
- It seems to me that there has been a concentrated effort on the part of the present administration to keep the media away from anything that concerns our troops who have been brought home in body bags. There are no pictures of coffins being unloaded, no coverage of funerals and very little publication of the names of those killed in action. Why is that? If the American people were hit in the face with those images there would be protesters in the streets and Bush and Cheney know that. If we invade Iran, which I believe is a very good possibility, the draft will have to be reinstated and that will bring the focus of the war directly to the American people. Lastly, we the people are just now starting to feel the impact of the war from an economic stand point and as prices continue to soar there will hopefully be more awareness of what is really going on. An uninformed public is easy to control but things will change as we learn more. We haven''t even started to unpeel this onion.

Remember when Obama basically announced that he would invade Pakistan? The man is barely a senator. He has zero experience. He should not be president.

Well our current commander-in-chief had even less connection to foreign policy before he was elected Pres & then re-elected....so you''re saying he NEVER should have been President either?? Or did you make the comment several years ago that he chose aides/advisors that did have experience to help him out? I know if has not gone well, but couldn''t Obama do the same thing? - Reply to this comment
- The war would be very popular if we nationalized the Iraqi oil industry and used it to supply America with cheap gasoline. Heck, if we did that, I would bet Americans would be clamoring to invade Iran and do the same thing.
Our government is just too dumb to see how popular they could be if they looted occupied countries to supply the masses with cheap gasoline. Why not drop the pretense of fighting a war on terror and start fighting a crusade to give America cheap gasoline? - Reply to this comment
- The Iraq "War" goes unnoticed because with an all-volunteer military about the only people really concerned with the War are those making a huge profit.
Since no one is threatened to go fight a war they don''t believe in there are no real protests and no involvement by the young people of this country. It''s just something they heard about from someone.
Getting rid of the draft has set the stage for the type of military adventurism by the two Bush Admins where they are able to take the military might of this country and trillions of tax dollars to wage military foreign policy instead fo "war." What war?, there has been no war declared, only a carte blanche war powers act approved by democrats who remain clueless now that they control both houses of Congress. - Reply to this comment
- Media has, and probably always will, have its own agenda. Support for our troops should be a given.

- If we were allowed to see the body bags returning home, Iraq would be on the front pages.
For George and Laura their interest is their daughter''s upcoming wedding.

- I''m from President Eisenhauer years...he warned us about the corruption of the "military industrial complex...that started to gain momentum under the Regan years at the expense of the American people...we are in an illegal war in Iraq...read the books by Rev David Ray Griffin...about 9-11 and The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9-11...we have been mislead by the media and the Republican party...as a former Republican I am upset that we are staying the course to destruction. Where is the Oil money from Iraq the drug money form Afganistan and the intelligence that support our mess in the world arena. During the Bush years we have become less than a 3rd world nation, with the Republicans talking about Obama''s minister. Why...follow the debunking of the truth. We are challenging our Christian Faith and the Truth...watch out for the ignorant individuals that are not digging up the truth...remember the Clinton''s history from his position as the governor to the president has been filled with death and destruction...where has the media been when reporting these issues?...If Bill becomes the First Man...we are really in trouble...remember, how he handled himself as President.

- The rotten economy and the Iraq war are inextricably tied together. Our entire well-being as a strong nation has been jeopardized by hocking souls to China and the big oil interests, who seem now to be calling in their IOU''s. We are trillions in debt, the dollar is collapsing around us and the idiots in Washington(ALL OF THEM!) go along as though nothing is wrong. Who in their right mind would want to tackle this house of cards?
