i dont agree with lieberman's stance on the whole bomb iran idea, but i do support the existence of israel. Israel is the only example of a true democracy in the entire region (though i admit they messed up fighting the iranian proxy known as hezbollah [they shouldve stuck to the bekaah valley, and not beirut] since lebanon is TRYING to become a democratic state). They base their foreign policy on the basis of survivalism, they arent out to carve an empire, or they wouldve done so in the numerous wars that they have fought, and won, against the aggressive arab powers that surround them. bashing lieberman because he is jewish (HE IS NOT THE ONLY JEW IN THE SENATE, do a little research and you will find quite a few) is just dumb. that is pretty much saying the same thing as any catholic leader is a servant of the pope, or any mormon, protestant, hindu, buddhist, etc etc etc. get a brain. and ps, supporting israel is a GOOD thing, i dont know if you have ever been to israel, but it is not some apartheid state as some of you seem to believe. the arab / muslim / bahai / druuze citizens of israel all fight in the military, vote, have their own political parties, and agree that israel is the best thing place to live in the middle east. so if you think they should be wiped off the map, why do we care if anyone bombs the united states? im just someone who values the way we live here, and believes that we should support cultures with the same values.

Please, educate yourself;
"Barely a day goes by that one can avoid reading or hearing yet another Israeli, American or British warhawk regurgitate the broken record that Iran's President Ahmadinejad threatened to "wipe Israel off the map,"

If Iran's Pres didn't mean what he said then where is the 'vehement' public denial and correction. Where is a soothing word for justifiably ruffled Jewish feathers. Where are the assurances from Iran that Israel has nothing to fear about Ahmadamnutjob giving Al Qaeda the 'bomb' after they make it?

Joe Lieberman is not really an American, in my opinion. He is a thinly disguised Israeli. I heartily despise the man, and pray that Iran may be preserved and defended from him and his fellow Israel-first, neoconservative Jew friends, disguised as American patriots.

Good, God. Don't we have a big enought mess without this nut Lieberman trying to stir up a bigger mess. I hope his home state is proud of electing this numb skull.

If you want to talk about values, then go back to 1956 when democratically elected Prime minister is ousted and Shah is given power by USA If you want to talk more recent one the military general of Pakistan Pervez Musharaff who is in power and want to be in power against the constitution of that country.

These words like "spreading democracy", "fighting global war on terror" are slogans to win elections here.

Go to root cause of the problem. Look at the US history of toppling/ trying to topple democratically elected governments in countries like Venezuela even before that President even opened his mouth against US.

These are called "Double standards". Other countries it is called abuse of Human rights if they put people in jails indefinitely and here either Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib are for fighting terrorism and retaining terrorists right ?

My plan was to let the IAEA complete its inspection and then build a Gulf War-style coalition to confront him. We had contained for 11 years with the no fly zone. If WMD had been found we would've had sufficient Arab and European support going in, like in the Gulf War.

Now that we're in a quagmire we still need a broad-based coalition to help us get out with our pants still on.

The same holds for Iran. Iran is geographically 3 times larger than Iraq. If we bomb Iran, we must be prepared for an expanded war. We don't have the troops or the armaments without International support. We made the mistake in Vietnam of bombing Viet Cong bases in Cambodia. It widened the war, complicated the peace process, but did not stop the supply of the Viet Cong.

We need to start learning from history. The definition of insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting a different result.

If we truly have better evidence of this than what we had against Sadaam, we need to go back to the U.N. with it.

You're confusing what's perceived to be good for Israel with what's good for America. It's a common neocon affliction.
Posted by realpatriot1 at 11:55 AM : Jun 11, 2007

I don't think Israel has anything to do with it. It has been proven that Iran is shipping arms in to Iraq which are being used to kill our troops and Iraqi civilians.

What's your plan? Bury your head in the sand and pretend you don't see it?

madash38,

Ask IAEA if they want us to bomb Iran...my guess is no.

So Democrats stayed home because of the page scandal? Your argument doesn't make sense.

The Republicans and independents of Connecticut screwed up royally. Like most Republicans, they were more concerned about *** Democrats than helping America.

What do those privileged rich *** care? When was the last time you saw someone from Connecticut among the listed casualties?

Saying America's policies and "arrogance" (whatever that means) created the Iranian terrorists is like saying a rape victim "deserved" it because she wore suggestive clothing; it%u2019s repulsive and ignorant. The problem is your naiveti and hatred is going to get millions of us killed. We are in a Global war that is truly existential in nature, and massive in scope. Iran is at war with the U.S. not because of G.W. Bush, but has been since at least 1979, because they hate and despise our Western values. These aren't my words, Iran says so openly. For those who think this is Israel's problem, Iran not only vows to "wipe Israel off the face of the map", but openly boasts of being willing to take millions of casualties, and "letting this Country (Iran) burn" if it means creating a world without America. The fanaticism of the Iranian leadership makes the 9-11 hijackers seem as rational as Swiss diplomats. What do you think they will do with nukes? Do you honestly think conventional diplomacy and deterrence will work? They believe God is telling them to kill us all (yes, including Liberals!). You need to turn off NPR and start listening to what our enemies say. I bet in 1943 you people would have howled in protest at the invasion of Italy, saying it had nothing to do with WWII. Iran is and has always been the big dog in this fight. We were in a de facto state of war with Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria as of about 9:00 AM on 9-11-01. Al Qaeda was merely one of their many proxies.

Joe didn't slip-in during the last election; he walked all over his old party because they dropped him. Connecticut showed what it thought of the one issue replacement they were offered.

There wasn't a national vote on the war in Iraq during the last election...there were all the same kind of issues that have been prevalent while voting for more the last 40 years%u2026with exception to the page scandal, corruption, lack of progress on key issues like health care (prescriptions this time) and Social Security are mainstays to the elections. The page scandal really bothered conservative voters%u2026many probably not even showing up at the polls because of anger at their party. Their party paid.

But back to Joe and bombing Iran...The military says that Iran is supporting our enemy in both training and weaponry. The IAEA says this about Iran: "IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei told a meeting of its governing board Iran had made itself the agency's No. 1 nuclear proliferation concern by significantly broadening its uranium enrichment campaign while curbing cooperation with inspectors."

Good enough!

Ok I think we all know Lieberman is on his last political tour! He slipped in last year on the coat-tails of the Republicans and the Democrats in Ct have no faith in Joey anymore.
Joe Lieberman USED to be a just and fair man--no more--he's all Jewish and proves it everytime he opens his mouth.
He is admittedly against any Muslim country and makes no secret over wanting to wage war on them.
Enjoy yourself Joe--another one who just won a "no confidence" vote.

If we had staying in Afghanistan to fight the Taliban and go after al Qaeda, instead to the preconceived lie called the invasion of Iraq, then maybe. We have spread ourselves so thin that there really is no way, unless we really want to lose big time.

This is what you get when you let a president lie to you and go along with his insanity. You can no longer do what you need to do to really right terrorism. This all started when we kept troops in Saudi Arabia long after the end of the first Gulf war. It also goes back to our over throwing the elected leader of Iran and installing the Shah..what goes around comes around.

HAMAS MICKEY MOUSE SAYS

Islamic rule will benefit Christians and Jews
by Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - May 14, 2007
The force behind Hamas TV%u2019s controversial Mickey Mouse clone said today that his children%u2019s television program will continue to promote worldwide Islamic supremacy, for everyone's benefit, including Christians and Jews.
In a long interview on Hamas TV, Hazim Al-Sha%u2019arawi, Deputy Director of Al-Aqsa TV and one of the creators of the Hamas children%u2019s TV show Tomorrow%u2019s Pioneers, said that using the program to promote Islamic rule over other religions is actually promoting %u201Cjustice, goodness and world love.%u201D
Al-Aqsa TV and the Palestinian Authority have been under fire since PMW reported last week that Tomorrow%u2019s Pioneers was using a character named Farfur, a knockoff of Disney%u2019s Mickey Mouse character, to convey messages about Islamic supremacy as well as hatred of Jews, Israel and the U.S. Despite public statements by PA Minister of Information Mustafa Barghouti that the show would be taken off the air until it could be reviewed and revised, a new episode of the program %u2013 featuring Al-Sha%u2019arawi as one of the hosts %u2013 ran Friday.

The only country Iran's bomb will threaten is Isreal (who Lieberman represents by the way)and who cares? I'm one american who is tired of paying Isreal $8000+ aid for every man woman and child in the country. Who can blame Iran for seeking a bomb anyway?, the U.S. has made Isreal the fourth largest owner of weapons of mass destruction in the world. Arrogance such as this is why we are hated around the world. Oh wait!! I forgot, It's because we love freedom!!

IT IS TIME TO DEFEAT FASCIST NAZI ISLAM ONCE AND FOR ALL%u2026

In 1786, Thomas Jefferson, then U.S. ambassador to France, and John Adams, then American Ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the Dey%u2019s ambassador to Britain, in an attempt to negotiate a peace treaty based on Congress%u2019 vote of funding. To Congress, these two future presidents later reported the reasons for the Muslims%u2019 hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

%u2026that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.

Sound familiar?

Thomas Jefferson and James Madison defeated the fascist nazi muslims 200 years ago
And again 100 years ago with Theodore Roosevelt
Tunisia in 1881 by France and Libya in 1911 by Italy. By then most of the Islamic world was under Christian domination. With the Ottoman Empire defeated in WW1, secularist Turkish rebels in 1923 overthrew the last Islamic Caliphate,
