What do we do about our territory of Puerto Rico, we can't deport them, they are Americans. - Reply to this comment
- pakaal---are you indian? If so, what kind. Just wanted to know if I have a fellow friend out there?

- My mother came to this country at 21 and learned the language, just like millions before her. Melting pot!
What make the Spanish speaking people think that we need to learn their language?
Maybe we should deport anyone who can NOT speak our language and then people like "laurieleemoo" don't have to move to get a job! - Reply to this comment
- Well, seems once we annex Mexico, our border and illegal alien problem with Mexico is solved. We can save a bundle of cash building a smaller wall between our new state of Mexico and Guatemala.

- laurieleemoo! "why not just give america back to my father and his people---the native indians."
Sounds great! When do we start the handover? - Reply to this comment
- laurieleemoo, I'd say first, illegal aliens are by definition illegal, thus not eligible to serve (I know, it'd be a prerequisite for citizenship, but see my third point). Second, because they're illegal, we can't find them. Third, if the idea that some (or many) illegal aliens are more likely to be terrorists, you're actually putting them in a place that they'd gain valuable military intelligence.
My opinion is that we don't need to put illegal aliens in our military because we have enough military troops to take care of our current problems at current troop levels. Of course that's IF we do the strategic withdrawal from Iraq over the next year or so. - Reply to this comment
- i am all for immigration and people wanting to become americans...but that is just the point---they don't want to become americans---no they would rather just take right over. So..yes, I say include them in the draft. Let them show they are not trying to just take over america---let them prove they want to actually become americans.

- and the wanting to take over jobs and land by refusing to learn our language has also got to go. I was born in Miami and worked there until my early 20's. Had to relocate as all jobs in paper now read, "Must be bilingual". I do not think it is fair that I can not get a job in my birthplace and was forced to leave the area because I could not speak spanish and therefore could not get a job. But, that all can change if they ever decide they would like to play by the rules. All the other immigrant groups do.

- thgdriver---that may not be a bad idea. However, they would have to go by our rules and clean up their drugs and and get the drug dealers out of their government and also pay into american tax dollars--oh and learn english. Hey, I say embrace the mexicans if they want to play by the rules.

- it would be pretty easy to locate them once the amnesty program is up and running. I don't know...you people keep saying they will do the jobs america does not want to do right? well there you go....let them do the soldiers jobs.
They will do anything for a very few dollars obviously. You do not think they would take military pay and fight. According to a lot of people---you never know--they might just be willing. How will we know unless we make the offer. We have americans who are willing to fight voluntarily because they love this country.
I say lets give the illegal mexicans a real chance to prove they love this country and not just want to take it over. - Reply to this comment
- Why not annex Mexico and make it the the fifty first state?

- Illegal aliens drafted is a really nice concept.
But our Gov. can't find them now to deport them!
Why do you think they will voluntarily come forward to go to war and die? - Reply to this comment
- why is it that you think we owe this land to the mexicans---they were not the first to hold the land and they were not the last (we are). Why should it go to someone who held the land sometime IN BETWEEN again. Please enlighten me.

- abbe7---well hey if you want to go that far--why not just give america back to my father and his people---the native indians. How about that?

- kchafey---most of those people are american citizens already. We are not in a position to make an agreement with them. However, the illegal mexicans--well they have definitely put themselves in a position where they OWE the american people. We are in great position for negotiation with them on this matter. I say, why not---lets try it.

"i mean, why draft americans when we have all these illegal mexicans we can make a deal with?"
There is a better way to solve immigration "problems": reset the mexican border as it was in 1822 ... don't you like the idea ???
I believe the draft story is kinda "tongue in cheeck "... - Reply to this comment
- pakaal---anyway thats neither here or there----what did you think about the idea. I mean, why should we keep sending americans over to iraq, etc. when we have all these illegal mexicans who we should make an agreement with----they become american soldiers and go to Iraq to fight for the U.S. then they will have earned their amnesty. Hey, we could kill 2 birds with one stone that way.

- pakaal----i know...its really wierd, but i think sometimes GW thinks he is a democrat. It is so unlike a republican to push for amnesty for illegal immigrants. GW definitely needs to find his way back to his roots---that is, if he really IS a republican. I like GW---but I certainly do not agree with him on everything.

- I agree, cathaleen. I wonder where this guy is coming from. Mentioning North Korea in connection with "US troops" is kinda crazy - I don't think anyone in the Bush administration has even considered ground troops there, and certainly military folks agree we'd have a lot harder time in NK than we have had in Iraq.
