Mr. Powell, I would hope one day you would return to public service, this country needs more people like you now more then ever. You served your country diligently and with honor, therefore no one would blame you if you didn't. With your experience as a Republican and military leader, one would hope you could restore sanity to the GOP, Congress, and our current administration. Even a blind person can see, we're on the road to self-destruction. Sadly, the last of the Old Guard our gone, those that stood to defend the country, even from our foolish selves. With the Cold War gone the hands of the Doomsday clock once again tick forward, inching us to midnight.

Many people could learn a lot from the reluctant warrior.

And Mr. Cheney et al, it's important that some Katrina myths be laid to rest. Here are some facts:

While Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster for the Mississippi Gulf Coast, it was not a natural disaster for the city of New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers' shoddy levees failed to hold up to a Category 3 storm. Most of the death and destruction in New Orleans was caused by the levee failures as well as the slow response by the Federal Government.

While we in the Superdome believed the rumors of murders and rapes, in reality these could not be verified. There was a suicide, a couple of drug overdoses and about 5 deaths of medical patients.

The Airport, Amtrak, and Greyhound shut down PRIOR to the evacuation of New Orleans. Many of us could not get out of town and ended up at the Superdome or Convention Center.

The approximate 85% of residents who did evacuate is a higher level than most evacuations of its kind in the U.S.

Those infamous flooded busses would have only evacuated about 5000 people as only half were operable and who was going to drive them as most of the locals had been forced to evacuate.

Days after Katrina, Bush said, "No one could have foreseen the breach of the levees". 6 months later a video and transcripts surfaced showing Bush being forewarned by the Head of the Nat. Hurricane Center, Gov. Blanco, "Brownie" and Nagin that this was going to be a devastating storm and quite likely the levees would be breached. Bush said, "Everything would be taken care of". Thus he was caught in two lies.

susie Q,
that was acute story but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of blacks vote others of their own color only because of color. You know that is true so stop pretending it isn't.

For crying out loud? Is that some sort of leftwing secret that leaked out and the rest of America doesn't already know about?

See, you guys are bad at keeping secrets and telling lies.

And you know this how? It's obvious you are not black, so how would you know that? Blacks have voted for white men their whole lives. And many, like yourself feel that the only qualified person for the white house is a white man. But get used to the majority of Americans who evidently don't think as you do. You seem to have that superiority complex that no matter how educated a black person is they do not qualify to be president of the U.S. But guess what? There are many white presidents who were not qualified either. It's hard to believe that in this day and age people like you still feel that white people are smarter than everyone else. And the rest of us don't have enough sense to make our decisions based on what is best for us and this country that is supposed to be equal on all levels.

I agree with all Colin Powell has to say, but I wouldn't discount the 'exploding heads' description, just ask Harry Whittington what its like to go hunting with Dick...

"cheap shots"? Cheney made an expensive shot when he shot his hunting buddy in face ...

Seriously, Powell is an honest man. He finally waked up after serving in probably the worst administration in American history. Cheney betrayed the America and his oath.

Over and over again Dick Cheney has proven his distain for American law and due process.

He and his, previous staff should be the subjects of a major investigation of his behavior during the Bush term.

If you want to see face to face interviews with DOD officers,CIA officers,NSA officers directly commenting on what Cheney did,get the Frontline documentary called...The Dark Side.Which is available on DVD rentals or the Frontline website.

Cheney is a shriveled up nasty old man who is trying to hang on to a bit of fame and sell a book before he visits Sadam Hussein.
