I watched this. Bob S was tempted to ask a real question. Bob S almost interrupted Axelrod's long winded 'answers'. Bob S refrained. Bob S is good at what he does. I could've never let Axelrod go on and on like that. Bob S is a better man.

Axelrod essentially blamed this mess on the tea party, even after Bob S showed a video of Obama's prediction about his own presidency. Bob S did NOT push. You are a brave journalist Bob S.

Bob S,

Why did you cut off the debate/argument between Lindsey G and Howard D, RIGHT WHEN IT WAS GETTING GOOD. You allowed them both to go back to the professional politician's way of talking, but never saying what they really think. Both these two were about to let it fly.

Next time, Bob S, please let it go a little longer.

First the Treasury asks Congress to raise the debt limit. Then the Republican House says they won't without cuts to government spending. So the Democrats begin negotiations including cuts to their sacredly held social programs and ask for some quid pro quo. It was a 3-1 ratio of cuts versus revenue increases. A deal that Republicans should have been drooling over!

What happened?

"One of the biggest hurdles that emerged was the Obama administration's desire to ensure that Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy Americans would expire at the end of 2012, while making permanent tax cuts for the middle class, said a person familiar with the talks."

Tax cuts for the rich protected by the Republican Party!!! That's all they care about!!

Look, this is a Democracy; a country made of more than Tea Party freaks and morons.

Everyone likes to say both parties are to blame, but in this case, it's just so obvious what this downgrade is about.

There's a time & place for Budget talks... it's not when the Treasury Secy asks for the debt-ceiling to be raised. You don't put into question making good on your past debt obligations. Past debts have nothing to do with future spending. If I always pay my bills on time, my creditors will leave me alone. But, if I call them up, & tell them I may not be able to pay them, then that opens the door to all types of questions about my creditworthiness, which are only raised because I brought it up.

That's exactly the same thing the GOP did, by politicizing what's normally an apolitical, bipartisan, housekeeping measure, THEY put into question America's creditworthiness - - even though people are still lining up to purchase our debt (US Treasuries), as evidenced by the upswing in Treasury sales, as the Market tanked a couple of days ago.

Anyone putting this on Pres Obama, or the Democrats, is just deluding themselves.

The S & P report (p. 4) puts the blame for this downgrade squarely on the Republicans:

"We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act."

Why is this not mentioned in the various news reports, including this one? Why are the mainstream media trying to shelter the GOP from the full blame it deserves?

This guy is clearly a political fool. It had more to do with the failure of politicians playing bluff with what the S&P told them from the get go.
Pay attention politicians to what S&P is telling you. You clearly threw the simpson and boales? recommendations under the bus because it wasn't what you wanted to hear. We all will have to give one way or another through cuts and added revenue.

You know, that's the most irresponsible lie, by any Democrat yet. Axlerod is supporting a Democratic dictatorship, who lie to the American public, and attempt to deceive them about the truth.

The truth is.....all of us are responsible.....because we voted a spendthrift into office, who is bankrupting our country from within. Anyone who opposes the Dems, is labeled terrorists, traitors, and the like, because that's how dictators, behave.

Anyone who takes a responsible position, and demands accountability, is bad mouthed, with out and out lies, by the Democrats.

While the GOP has plenty of their own issues, this behavior by the Democrats to cover up and justify their own ineptness, and outrageous spending, is pure BS!

Axlerod.......you are no patriot!
