Perhaps rjstolb but all that time of displacement and struggle can't be regained. They are losing part of their lives right now trying to recover from the initial shock. They need and deserve all the help available to them - and then some from all the rest of us - to put things solidlty back together. Mr. Cantor is surely intelligent enough to see his career crashing if anything gets in the way of getting immediate help and then more and more to the people in Joplin and/or if the money is recovered from any program that helps the people of the USA.

Empathy is not a strong character trait among conservatives. In fact, most of them regard it as a weakness.

Wanna "offset" the cost of helping those in need after a natural disaster? Discontinue providing the federal subsidies that you just voted to extend to the fossil fuel industries. Eliminate tax exempt status for politically-active religious organizations. Rescind the Bush era tax cuts for the wealthiest people.

Nah, it's all about priorities, right Eric?

Yes, Cantor, the money for the Tornado victims will be taken away from those going to the state of Virginia. Where was Cantor for 8 years from 2000 to 2008, when they spent money by borrowing. The Bush wars, tax cuts and Medicare prescription drugs all passed by Cantor and company without paying for it. Now this fellow is comparing federal government to family.

17 months to elections for a new Congress. Hope the voters make a wiser choice this time.

Cantor is a representative of less than 1% of his constituents in Virgina and less than .00000001 per cent of Americans. Virginia has more millionaires than any state who do not pay their fair share of taxes. When I hear, the Rich pay 40% of our countries taxes, I point out, if you make money, you pay taxes but if you are poor, you cannot pay taxes as you have no money.
Wages have seen no increases in 30 years since Reagan, we have lost 100,000 defined benefit pensions while Corporations bribed Congress to pass laws to steal from the American Worker. We have 900,000 families that declare Medical Bankruptcies and lose their homes. We have 25% of our kids homeless while banks work to get the equity of homeowners via shortsales and foreclosures, we have GE and other mega Corporations who pay no taxes and Executives of Corporations are paid in stock taxed at 15% Capital Gains rates.
We need to raise taxes on the Rich, period. They are getting Richer with the laws that passed during the past 30 years shifting the tax burden, the cost of wars with kids of the middle class going to war to protect Corporate and the Rich elite kids who go to wall street to skim from our 401K's.
I will work to replace the Republicans that do not represent the American People. They represent the 1% and their Rich Buddies.

Hey Cantor, you steaming pile.... Don't try that one big happy family garbage on america. You right wingers are all individualistic minded anti-social folk who divide the nation and form only factions to fight for your elitist separatist objectives. You are the kind that rape and pillage the inner cities during the day then retreat to your pristine well fortressed enclaves by night. If the United States is one big family then some family members are certainly favored much more greatly over others while others are outright abused by this "family system". According to your lame attempt at analogy, the United States is one big dysfunctional family.

So is he thinking that we need to find offsets to the tax subsidies
that are given to the oil companies? Maybe we need to use the money "our family" has put aside for our medical care (Medicare that is) to help fund, or "offset" the multi-million bonuses for oil company executives that "our family" is helping out with...
