The only reason Lieberman isn't a Democrat, is because he lost the Democratic primary race and had to switch to an Independent ticket in order to run. He still caucuses with the Democrats in Congress.

The GE reactor design causing the problems in Japan hasn't been used since 1980. There are more robust reactor designs in use today that are much safer. We should be pouring money to develop Pebble Bed Reactor technology that can be shut down instantly, with ZERO chance of a meltdown. The industry is anxiously watching the construction of the first production unit in Africa as we speak.

I think there needs to be a pause on constructing more nuclear power plants not because I believe they are dangerous because the truth is everything is dangerous. No the real problem I have is where to store the used waste. That is something no one has wanted to deal with for 40 years or more. I am actually for more nuclear power but not until we address the 800 pound gorilla in the room. The waste.

When was our newest power plant started? 1970-what? The same with fuel refinery...government over-regulation and "safety" rules are to blame!

The only reactor under construction in America, at Watts Bar, Tennessee, was begun in 1973 and may be completed in 2012. Of the 104 plants now operating in the U.S., ground was broken on all of them in 1974 or earlier

So typical. Any excuse to shut the US down even more. Cut your nose off to spite your face. Well, let the Liberal bastards freeze to death in the dark. Nuclear plants don't pose any more of a hazard than the oil plants or, for that matter, an idiot behind the wheel of a vehicle going down the road at 70mph. My god America!! Get real already!

Lieberman is a liberal and this comment is just playing to his liberal base. Build nuclear plants, drill for oil and dig for coal. We don't want your stupid electric cars.
