Did the Internet Kill Privacy? This is like asking did the cliff kill the man who jumped off it. Ms Payne and anyone else who uses Facebook cannot just assume the information they place on it is secure and protected from prying eyes. Our privacy is to a great extent our responsibility. Certainly it was unfair of her school to put her in the position she is now in and I wish her all the best in her fight. But "Let The User Beware!" must be kept in mind when signing on to a website.

Does privacy exist? Think about it: If you live somewhere( and most people do ), the location is known by scores of people, such as the police, the postal system, utilities, etc. If you have a relationship, the other person knows details about your life. If you decide to leave it all & become a nomad, there's always a chance that, somewhere in the distance, somebody might get a glance of you, and I don't mean 'spy satellites.' No, the Internet didn't kill privacy...it was all an illusion!

The internet didn't kill privacy. We did. I responded to this article on my blog:

As far as I'm concerned, until we reenact Prohibition, alcohol is legal. I would be less concerned about my privacy than about those who sit in judgment of perfectly normal adult behavior. The way things are going, the same people who fired this teacher would attach monitors to them to scan for cursing, smoking, drinking, or premarital sex, and would act on what they found, which I find frightening. We don't take children away from parents who consume alcohol, why should we take teachers away who do? Kids run into their teachers in restaurants drinking alcohol, it's part of life.

The teacher should have been smarter then to have put a picture on the internet in the first place but does that give anyone the right to fire her. We the people have the right to freedom of speech even teachers.

Shouldn't the bottom line be that drinking alcholol is NOT illegal and cursing is NOT illegal!

They hired her to teach from 8 to 3 each day....I'm sure 24 hour perfection was not a job requirement!

Did ANYONE out there hear the line about "Judge Not Lest Ye be Judged" ???
Anyone???

The IDIOTIC teacher gets everything she deserves. Any sub-moron that posts anything that can remotely be construed as offensive, questionable, controversial, etc. on the friggin' Internet or some asinine social networking site should be prepared for the consequences. How stupid are you people. Everything you post is retrievable for decades, even longer. Google someone's name and look what comes up. Senseless feeble-minded lemmings in the country have no ability to reason or think logically anymore.
