Today Disney/Marvel/Joss Whedon's The Avengers has already grossed more than its production budget (estimated to $220 million) in overseas markets. The movie is expected to rocket past $500-600 million by Sunday, and become a worldwide box-office tsunami.

I know nothing about Marvel's Avengers; but do know that the real Avengers will always be Patrick MacNee, Diana Rigg and company. They could solve all the world's problems with wit, charm, a bowler and an umbrella.

Whedon made the best sci-fi series ever made, and just because of that I _might_ go and see The Avengers - but seriously, haven't we had enough CGI-filled cartoon-hero crapfests by now?

Nothing can erase the grotesque, ever-spreading stain of Buffy.

For "Firefly" and "Serenity" he was great, as was his stint as script editor and writer for "Roseanne" (second season)...

Never cared for Buffy and its spinoffs, but never saw Dollhouse (which I should see, given how unconventional it was).

His take on the superhero group might just be worthy...

Firefly, the series or the movie Serenity, has a huge cult following. Mr. Whedon's name has been well known for quite away and I am surprised at him being called "not-so-well-known director". Don't forget "A Cabin in the Woods" is doing quite well, and number six at the box office.

I'm not surprised this story doesn't have a byline. The oversimplification of "Joss Whedon = Buffy" is embarrassing. Joss is an excellent director, and I'm sure the combination of Joss and Downey will result in brilliance onscreen. Having Joss direct a $220 million project is infinitely smarter than say, signing Michel Gondry to flush $120 million down the toilet ...

He has done really good work other than Buffy, I have high hopes and beliefs that we will do it again with this film.

Noticed in the Sunday Morning article that Joss Whedon fortunately
has resurrected the good ship Serenity of the too short-lived GREAT
Firefly adventure. "We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so...very...pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die."
