- Of course this all ignores the obvious problem, everyone has been brainwashed into thinking they HAVE to go to college to succeed. I'm a network administrator for a chemical plant, have 20 years experience in the field, and never went to college. I taught myself. And what about all the trades out there that desperately need new apprentices? Or farming, where you just learn by doing? There's plenty of work out there that doesn't require a piece of paper hanging on the wall to show you know what you're doing. Where I work, people know I know what I'm doing because their systems work every day without fail.

- The segment starts out by asking, why? Then it makes a simplistic reference to staff costs, basically saying it is 'health care costs' and the wages have been 'stagnant'. That's it? Why not more discussion on average teacher salary/ Average cost of benefits? Average teacher workload? Could you increase required hours for teachers w/o effecting students? Come on....how can you have a segment like this w/o considering the stated problem? If the average teacher salary was 40k a year I'd feel a lot different then if it's 140k a year. If the average teacher hours in the classroom is 10 I'd feel a lot different then if it was 30. Amazing that we can't have a complete discussion - it is forbidden.

- So the Democrats want to fund the bill through eliminating tax giveaways to the biggest, most profitable companies in the world who made their money gouging the American public.
On the other hand, the Republicans are perfectly happy if Americans have to take out loans that will impoverish them for their entire lifetimes if they want to go to college, but they'll take healthcare away from the poor if they have to to accomplish their goals.
This isn't "a disagreement over how to pay for the bill" CBS "News" - the Republicans don't want it to pass at all. it's the Republicans again waging class warfare against middle-America, their favorite target.
Republicans HATE Americans. - Reply to this comment
- I took out a loan to pay for my college and then I paid it off. Why can't others do this without making excuses. I do see the University system sucking the life out of reasonable tuition rates and I also see a total waste in time and money being spent on useless classes. I was required to take a theatre arts class while this had nothing to do with my career choice. I also had to take biology and other classes that were a waste of time and money. They always say, you need to be well-rounded, but come on. I was going to college for a specific purpose, to be an expert in my field, not take basket-weaving.

- No Problem! General Electric is adding 36, 13.00 an hour jobs each month from now till 2015!
At that rate you might take home 1400 a month. If you can live on 1100 a month or so, you can save 300 per month to pay off college. If the average owed is 30,000- it will only take 9 years to pay it off! - Reply to this comment

- I guess it was too late to credit GOP & Dem. Congress for passing bill to avoid the interest increase.

- Two years ago President Obama and the Democratic majority voted to increase the student loan debt. Now they are acting like it is the Republican Party that wants the increase. Politics aside I do not understand what these kids are protesting. They selected the college they wanted to go to. They selected their major. In some cases a major that has low earning potential. Now when it comes time to pay the bill they are complaining. It is their stupidity alone that has them in that much debt. Then on top of it the Occupy College group holds a rally where the young adults, I mean children, wear signs around their neck telling the world how much debt they are in. Basically yelling and whining about how dumb they actually are. It is not the school's fault. They tell the students what their prices are before signing up for school. This is so ridiculous. It would be like a person going to a car dealership and getting financed for a Bentley car. Then protest in front of the car dealership complaining about how much debt they have signed up for. These young kids better wise up. One day mommy and daddy will not be around to help you out anymore.

- THE GOVERNMENT ALREADY PROVIDES SUBSIDIZED EDUCATION. GO TO THE STATE UNIVERSITIES.
Did you know that you can go to the City University of New York for about $5k a year tuition as an undergrad--right in the middle of Manhattan? So many spoiled kids turn their nose up at state colleges then complain that someone else should pay their private school costs. Next year they will buy a BMW and complain their car payments are too high (because how could they ever stoop so low to drive a Ford? Euuuuuuwwww, yucky!!!!) - Reply to this comment
